I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Monday 4/25/2022: Sneak Peek at the Week; Pluto Retrograde; New Moon in Taurus — Eclipsed; Venus Conjunct Jupiter, Oh Joy!
/in The ForecastAllllllrighty then!
Lots to talk about this week — here are the highlights:
The upcoming eclipse means that it’s time once again to offer Avid Readers several paragraphs on how this week’s solar eclipse and next month’s lunar eclipse are likely to affect your own personal horoscope. These paragraphs are not computer-generated. They are my typed-by-hand observations unique to you, and they all can be yours by tossing $52 into the Joyful Random Expression of Appreciation basket, located here. Then you’ll need to email me your birth data, if you know I don’t already have it. I will send insights before Saturday’s New Moon.
Here’s how the week goes:
Here is what the New Moon/Solar Eclipse looks like, set in Washington, D.C.:
Observations:
Oh, but this is a solar eclipse, too. So let’s write about that — or if you prefer to listen to a talk about eclipses (and also Pluto’s retrograde), here’s 25 minutes of a fun conversation with Avid Reader Alison in Episode 15 of her podcast, “2022: The Year of Love.”
Solar eclipses act like a “bottleneck” of energy. Light flowing from the Sun is temporarily interrupted, focusing attention on that interrupted point. As light is held back, something new and possibly fragile may enter the picture and grow. And here I would be thinking of Michael, the kindhearted policeman in the storybook Make Way for Ducklings, who stopped the flow of traffic on Beacon Street so Mr. and Mrs. Mallard and their brood of eight could safely make their way to the Boston Public Garden. Otherwise, they would have been roadkill. Got that?
Often the seeds planted for growth during an eclipse are hidden. Sometime later, when the eclipse is activated by a transiting planet, whatever was planted can make itself known quite suddenly and forcefully. And once it’s out, there’s no going back.
Here’s an example of an eclipse trigger. On January 10, 2020, we had an eclipse at 20 degrees of Cancer/Capricorn. It was a lunar eclipse, offering illumination and release. This is when the novel coronavirus was named and its genetic sequence released. Countries began mobilizing to deal with it. In early March 2020, Jupiter hit 20 Capricorn, followed by Mars on March 17th. That’s when most of the world went into lockdown. Then, on December 14, 2020, Mars was at 20 Aries for the third time this year (because Mars was retrograde). 20 Aries is a square to 20 Cancer/Capricorn, thus triggering the eclipse again. That’s the day the first Covid vaccine was administered in the U.S. The planet representing the vaccine in the chart for that event is Mars! Meanwhile, in the UK, a mutation of Covid-19 that spreads faster than the original was identified. Coincidence or conspiracy?
A pause, while I marvel at the synchronicity between the marching orders of the New Moon (“Never give up the good fight!!”) and Beth Owl’s Daughter’s Tarot Card of the Week, which just landed in my inbox. To illustrate this week’s prescient Card, she cites an essay Dan Rather penned yesterday, “Standing Up to Bullies,” with three recent inspiring examples of courageous souls never giving up on fighting the good fight!
And now, the news.
These two from WaPo aren’t new, but they’re fun:
Also fun: the upside potential of challenging aspects between Mars (action, assertion) and Neptune (pixie-dust, music), as evidenced by Randy Rainbow. He has an exact Mars-Neptune opposition that also engages his super clever Mercury (in Gemini) and probably his perfection-seeking Virgo Moon. Here’s a write-up of his horoscope from a few years ago. Today, as transiting Jupiter (expansion, publishing) makes contact with his Mercury, the NYT reports this:
Randy Rainbow will never give up the good fight. His last musical parody was a response to Florida governor Ron DeSantis’ horrible “Don’t Say ‘Gay'”bill, ICYMI.

That’s the news for now, only because there is so much going on in the cosmos this week, and I feel I’ve given you plenty to digest.

Monday 4/18/2022: Sneak Peek at the Week; Sun enters Taurus; Jupiter-Neptune & More in the News
/in The ForecastAlllll-righty then!
The hottest days in terms of planetary action this week are Monday and Sunday, bracketing a workweek that offers an excellent potential for productivity. Highlights are:
Here’s how it goes:
And now, the news.
Lots of stories reflecting last week’s Mercury-Pluto square, which suggested a bonanza for investigative reporters. Add in the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Pisces, suggesting BIG (Jupiter) in all things Neptune (e.g., drugs, conspiracies, espionage, deception, fantasy, victims, refugees, spirits of all kinds, intangibles, oceans, oils, plastic, toxins, chemicals, etc.) and FOGGINESS in all things Jupiter (the media, courts, collective belief systems, horses, the liver, etc., etc.) in a way that evokes all things PISCES (endings, empathy, feet, surrender, intuition, unity).
Meanwhile…
In other news, on the morning of the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction...
Add the power plays and news from underground potential of the Sun-Pluto square to the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction and we see:
Finally, Episode 5 of “Off the Charts: A Stellar Newscast.” is now available! This time, journalist and fellow astrologer Whitney Fishburn and I are talking about the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction, and much more. Thanks for listening!
To find how all these planetary patterns are likely to affect your own unique horoscope, here’s the 411 on personal consultations.
Thank you for reading this forecast…with extra-special gratitude to Avid Readers Roberta and Leah for gifting my Cosmic Tip Jar today. Your support gives me the motivation to keep on writing….
Happy birthday, Taurus!
Monday 4/11/2022: Sneak Peek at the Week: Jupiter Conjunct Neptune in Pisces; Full Moon in Libra
/in The ForecastThe Moon is in Leo, driving the start of the work week with a need to shine – and help others, shine, too. Here’s how it goes:
A pause, while we review the potential of this pattern, which has not happened since 1856. A notable development during that time was the rise of Spiritualism, especially in America.
In the language of astrology, Jupiter refers to growth, optimism and fortune. It refers to collective belief systems, publishing, religious dogma, court opinions, horses, the liver and the pancreas, etc., etc. Jupiter expands whatever it touches; Neptune dissolves whatever it touches, including boundaries and solid form. Neptune refers to spirits of all kinds, drugs, toxins, chemicals, oceans, dreams and fantasy; photography, music, the lymph system, and the woo-woo.
Jupiter and Neptune function with high-efficiency in Pisces, as they are both rulers of this sign. The keyword for Pisces is I BELIEVE. And what Pisces believes is whatever it feels. Facts really do not enter into the equation. So the upside of Jupiter-Neptune in Pisces is powerful opportunity to plant seeds for making a dream come true — that could be realized a few years from now. An enlightened Pisces dream would involve empathy, compassion and the wisdom of understanding that we are all connected. The shadow side of Jupiter-Neptune in Pisces is belief in flat out lies – i.e., propaganda, disinformation and conspiracy theories. These are not dreams. These are delusions. Watch the headlines today for important clues in this new Jupiter-Neptune cycle.
You are personally affected by this potent seed-planting if you have a planet or angle around 24 Pisces. This includes our VP Kamala Harris, as the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction will square her 24 Gemini Ascendant.
Here what the Full Moon in Libra looks like, set in Washington, D.C.:
Observations:
Back to The Forecast:
Perhaps you are wondering how all of these planetary patterns are playing out in your own horoscope. Is a major move penciled into your cosmic calendar? Are you due for a raise or a promotion? Here’s the 411 on personal consultations.
I have a truckload of news to report, but if I start now, this forecast won’t ship until midnight. I can, however, offer one story that is in perfect sync with planetary patterns, in addition to Beth Owl’s Daughter’s Tarot Card of the Week.
For Jupiter-Neptune conjunct in Pisces, could there be any story more appropriate than Julian Lennon singing “Imagine” for the very first time? He said he’d never, ever perform it in public — unless it was the “end of the world,” and what is Pisces about, if not endings? He sang it out of empathy and compassion for the people suffering unimaginable horrors in Ukraine.
Another happy bit of news: Britney Spears just announced she’s pregnant with her third child. It’s especially happy for me because I’ve been expecting this news — as you can see from the last line of this article about her horoscope I wrote in March 2021.
Astrology is amazing.
Thank you for reading this forecast.

Tuesday 4/5/2022: Late Sneak Peek at the Week; Mars Conjunct Saturn; Jupter Conjunct Neptune
/in The ForecastIt’s Sunday and the Taurus Moon is driving the day with a need to build and maintain material comfort and security. Today the Moon makes only one connection: a conjunction with disruptive Uranus at 1:46 PM ET. Here’s how the rest of the week goes:
Point is, we can’t ignore the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction this week, as it’s been humming in the background for a few weeks. Next week, it will be the ONLY planetary pattern happening that does not involve the Moon, except for Mars, which ditches Aquarius for Pisces on April 14th — and we will all likely end up with water on the brain.
A pause, while I announce these hot-off-the-press astro-logical podcasts and videos, Join the hundreds of astrology fans who are tuning in:
Your comments re: these audio and video astro-logical offerings are always welcome!
And now, the news.
Whenever I describe challenging aspects between Mars and Saturn as potential for militant discipline, I’m referring to assertion and courage (upside) and guns, cars and aggression (downside). Given Russia’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine, I expected intense headlines, especially since Vladimir Putin’s horoscope is affected. Since the conjunction is in Aquarius, add in high-tech, aviation and — on the upside potential– the greater good for all, especially within a group.
Add in next week’s Jupiter-Neptune conjunction — very much in effect now:
Finally…
Mick Mulvaney has been hired by CBS News to a be a paid political commentator. Mulvaney is the former guy’s former “Acting” Chief of Staff and would-be destroyer of the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, as Heather Cox Richardson explains– in a must-read Letter. Stephen Colbert also has thoughts — presented in this must-see TV clip. What does this have to do with astrology?
First, we can appreciate that the Sun-Mars square in Mulvaney’s horoscope — downsized by transiting Saturn in 2020, as I reported back then — is now being supercharged by transiting Pluto. Hence, the powerful platform he has just been given. Watch, as others with similar Pluto-Sun transits become more influential this year and next — e.g., Kellyanne Conway, Nikki Haley and Pete Buttigieg.
Second, as HCR and Colbert point out, CBS — an alleged news organization — gave Mulvaney this platform based on their belief — as expressed by CBS News president Neeraj Khemlani — that the Republicans will take over the House and Senate after the 2022 midterms, and having Mulvaney (and others of his ilk) will enable CBS to have access to these predicted victors…enabling a self-fulfilling prophecy. Jupiter-Neptune in Pisces plants seeds for make believe, as opposed to actual facts. Got that?
Of course CBS isn’t the only news network that puts power and profit above integrity. The real danger of doing so now — astro-logically speaking — is that the US horoscope is so vulnerable to delusion, with its already reality-challenged Mars-Neptune square being activated by transiting Neptune now. Delusion is likely to become even more provocative when Mars enters Gemini later this year and goes retrograde at the end of October. I couldn’t find a birthday for CBS News president Neeraj Khemlani, but he deserves to have an inbox filled with emails shaming him for following in the footsteps of disgraced CBS Chairman & CEO/accused sexual harasser Les Moonves, who famously said in 2016 “[the former guy] may not be good for America, but it’s damn good for CBS.”
Another potential for Jupiter conjunct Neptune in Pisces is surrender, as expressed in astrologer Bill Herbst’s latest essay.
That’s the news!
Here’s the 411 on personal consultations. Huge shout-out of gratitude to Avid Reader Linda, who responded to last week’s birthday challenge and became a Faithful Monthly Subscriber of this forecast. It means the world to me that Avid Readers find this forecast worthy of support.

Monday 3/28/2022: Sneak Peek at the Week; Postcard from the Void; Venus Conjunct Saturn; New Moon in Aries
/in The ForecastAllllllrighty then!
The Moon is still in Aquarius, driving the day with a need for social significance. However, if you’re hoping to launch a product you hope will be a game-changer, today (MONDAY) is not the day to do it. At 10:11 AM ET, the Moon is void — i.e., traveling without support from the other kids in the cosmic sandbox. If you needed an extra push to get your day going, that’s a common Moon void feeling. When you do get going, projects that are routine are best tackled today. If a crisis crops up, CHILL – as chances are that it’s much ado about nothing.
During the work week, there is only one exact planetary pattern that does not involve the Moon, and it’s been making itself known over the past few days. At 3:27 PM ET on Monday, Venus – which refers to who, what and how we need to love – will be conjunct Saturn – which represents control, authority and responsibility. Heavy news involving social expression, women, as well as cuts and losses involving money, the arts, and technology are likely to make news. Upside potential: boundaries may finally be clarified in matters over the past few weeks that been amorphous. And yes, Will Smith’s horoscope is directly affected by the Venus-Saturn conjunction, reflected by his actions at last night’s Oscars (we’ll cover that in detail in a moment).
Here’s how the week goes:
Observations:
The exhilarating potential of this Sabian Symbol is reflected in Beth Owl’s Daughter’s always-in-sync Tarot Card of the Week.
Back to the forecast:
And now, the news…
…featuring a cast of thousands, and these planetary patterns (from today and last week):
Ready?
In no particular order…
Meanwhile, at the Oscars…
…which is what everyone was talking about today, Monday, during the all-day Moon void. I’m talking about the “slap heard ’round the world” — i.e., Will Smith’s decision to physically assault comedian Chris Rock after Rock joked that he was looking forward to seeing Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, in G.I. Jane 2. Pinkett-Smith has talked about being diagnosed with alopecia in 2018, and how she’s made peace with this autoimmune disease (which results in hair loss), by shaving her head.
OK. First of all, who remembers that one of the Sabian Symbols for the March 18th Full Moon was “a bald-headed man,” and we could expect prominent headlines about those with hair — and hair loss. So there’s that.
Second, obviously Will Smith’s horoscope was directly affected by planetary patterns — and even the NY Post is talking about the astrology of it all. Seriously! That no-nonsense Venus-Saturn square was squaring Smith’s Scorpio Moon, which has a thing about loyalty and honor. The square from Saturn to his Moon will continue throughout 2022, and this may be heavy and isolating. Smith is likely an idealist in social expression, suggested by his Mercury and Venus at the verrrry end of Libra — both of which are currently being supercharged by transiting Pluto. So we anticipate extremes of social expression and communication, with a need for creative passion and persuasion. Pluto transits can be provocative, especially in matters of power — and power plays. Pluto is also engaging his Sun/Moon midpoint, an important marker for relationships. Some relationships may be breaking down and transforming, with separations possible by the time this transit is over.
Meanwhile, transiting Jupiter — ruler of his 7th house (the public, open enemies and significant others) — is opposing his natal Jupiter, expanding that area of his life, for better or for worse. Finally, transiting Mars was near the Midheaven of his chart, suggesting matters of aggression, courage and assertion — especially affecting his professional status and reputation — could be on his plate. Smith is a Libra, with Uranus conjunct the Sun — so he’s a maverick at heart. Plus, his Uranus is at the Aries Point — so his need to be a rebel can’t help but get attention. And speaking of Uranus, it’s hot in his horoscope, just as it’s hot in Clarence Thomas’ horoscope — i.e., in a hard aspect to the Midheaven. This suggests a potential fresh start in matters of home, relationship, self-image and/or career.
The exact hit of Uranus to Smith’s Midheaven happens in late April. We’ll see if there are any consequences for his behavior. Last night the Academy did not remove Smith from the theater, as one might expect would happen if a passenger on an airplane became unruly. The show went on — as if nothing unusual had happened — and then Smith won the Oscar for best actor. And instead of hearing, “Accepting the award on behalf of Mr. Smith…,” Smith himself got to take the stage, make a speech and party through the night. As the former guy once said, “When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.”
Dr. Mary L. Trump wrote a book about how the failure to hold certain privileged classes accountable for their actions has harmed America over the past 250 years. It’s called The Reckoning, and much of the history she recounts is up for resolution during the U.S. Pluto Return.
Meanwhile, the Academy says it will open “a formal investigation.” Smith issued a more formal apology this afternoon.
Obviously, transiting Mars and Pluto are activating Chris Rock’s horoscope, too.
Did you know that Saturn refers to deafness? Combine it with Venus (the arts), and isn’t is cool that CODA won Best Picture? It’s about a deaf family! Venus-Saturn in Aquarius was reflected in Jane Campion’s win for Best Director, too.
Whew!
That was a lot of news.
