I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. Sunday 5/29/2022: Weekend Update; New Moon in Gemini; Mars-Jupiter in Aries in the News

Moon is still in Taurus on this long Memorial Day weekend. Here’s the recap of what we can expect:

SATURDAY: If matters involving women, social expression, worth and money feel they are at a crisis point, this is Venus at the verrrrrrry end of Aries. One story making headlines today is the revelation that the 18 year-old man who killed 21 people on Tuesday was known on social media channels for posts threatening violence against women and girls and cruelty towards animals. His posts were reported, but the social media channels apparently did not respond. Venus leaves Aries for Taurus — one of the signs it rules — at 10:46 AM ET. On a lighter note, Venus functions effectively and happily in Taurus, so now you can think about scheduling that beauty treatment, shop for a summer wardrobe or consider colors for that room you’ve been meaning to repaint. Note that there is still a boatload of go-go-go energy in the air, reflecting the conjunction of Mars (action!) and Jupiter (expansion!) in Aries, demanding attention at the Aries Point, exact on…
SUNDAY: at 6:30 AM ET. If our attention is captured once again by explosive action or assertion, for better or worse, I will not be surprised. Plus, the Mars-Jupiter conjunction happens a few hours after a square between the Moon and Saturn & a Moon-Neptune sextile, exact just before 4 AM ET. Cuts & losses; stubborn strategic advances; opportunities to experience empathy or the surreal. UPDATE: as I am about to ship this forecast on Sunday, a day after writing it, Moon meets up with Mercury at 7:14 AM ET and tries to get the word out, but since Mercury is retrograde, it may not get the facts right on the first effort. Moon goes void on a trine to Pluto at 10:10 AM ET. Meanwhile, note that we are at the end of the lunar cycle — with no light from the Moon to guide us. On the one hand, we have a ton of energy demanding attention, and on the other hand, we have a pre-New Moon vibe that may be listless or restless. Rest assured that there is a lot going on under the cover of darkness. Moon enters Gemini at 1:22 PM ET, now focused on gathering information. In some small ways, Moon’s sextiles to Mars and Jupiter between 8 PM and 9 PM ET may reflect reasons to cheer.
MONDAY: The New Moon in Gemini kicks in on Monday at 7:30 AM ET.

A pause, while we look at the New Moon chart, set in Washington, D.C.:

Observations:

In Gemini, the New Moon suggests a focus on new ideas, new mindsets, new ways of communication, and gathering information. Got that? Your thoughts and your words can move mountains; i.e., they manifest in your physical reality.
This strikes me as a high-energy New Moon chart, with many players on the field — but not especially connected to each other, except for the Sun and the Moon. High-functioning Mars and Jupiter are at the top of the chart in the 10th House (of government/reputation), and they are squaring the Cancer Ascendant, which needs to be seen as caring and nurturing. But Neptune is also in the 10th, suggesting idealism or illusion.
Illusion, delusion, lies, conspiracy, sex scandals, prominent crises of faith and/or idealism are prominent in this cycle, given the midpoint picture Mars-Neptune and Jupiter-Neptune at the Aries Point. That seems apt, given what we are scheduled to hear starting June 9th, i.e., in the televised January 6 Committee hearings. It’s possible that we will have more than one SCOTUS ruling that fits this potential, too.
Rebel Uranus in Taurus is unaspected and its position in the horoscope suggests disruption running away with the whole enchilada, especially in matters of law, religion, foreign affairs, travel and sports.
Mercury is still retrograde, determined to review the past, and it is still conjunct the Fixed Star Algol, suggesting that heads may roll. Mercury is in a tense square with Saturn, suggesting heavy, heavy thoughts and efforts at mind control. Saturn is in the 9th house, one of the areas that rebel Uranus is disrupting.
Saturn is at a virtual standstill, btw — preparing to turn retrograde on June 4th. Planets slowing down to a change of station bring matters they symbolize into focus, like a driver leaning on the horn of their car. In this New Moon we have a horn blaring in matters of control, authority and other structures of our society.
Mercury is also slowing down, preparing to turn direct on June 3rd. That’s two horns blaring, and I hope someone is paying attention.
The Sun and Moon are in the 12th house, focused on matters involving hidden enemies of the state, confinement and the self-undoing, to name a few. This New Moon is conjunct the Fixed Star Aldebaran, which echoes the abundant warrior energy of Mars and Jupiter in Aries.
The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is “an aeroplane falling.” Presumably this plane is falling because of gravity, and “gravity” echoes the sobering thoughts suggested by the aforementioned Mercury-Saturn square. I suppose aeroplanes usually defy gravity, but the one in this Symbol isn’t — though it’s not clear if the plane is falling because the pilot is not in control or if the falling downward is deliberate. Hmmm. Astrologer James Burgess assumes the former, but offers an optimistic take on how we can overcome the fear of death such a free fall in flight suggests, take the controls and soar upward. “In passion,” he writes, “danger of death does not disturb us.”
You are more personally affected by this New Moon if you have planets around 9 degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces; e.g., Rudy Giuliani, Viktor Orban, Robert DeNiro, Brooke Shields, Prince William and George W. Bush.

Back to the Forecast:

MONDAY (cont). There are no exact aspects among the planets for the rest of the day. Not only that, but for the rest of the week — and into the following week, there are no exact aspects among the planets except those involving the Moon. This is a rare occurrence, and in my years of observation, it may create space for an “…and just like that!” event, not unlike the sudden collapse of an ice shelf in Antarctica. Not until June 10th — the day after the January 6th Committee’s first televised hearing — will we have Mercury (now direct) trine Pluto (digging up dirt for the third time in this Mercury Rx cycle), followed by Venus conjunct Uranus (surprise, surprise) on June 11th. Until then, we may be in free fall — like the Sabian Symbol for the New Moon.

And now, the news.

Everyone can see how the horrible school shooting in Texas on Tuesday was an apt reflection of the potential of that day’s planetary patterns: Mars and Moon leaving Pisces for Aries, demanding prominence at the Aries Point, made bigger by their conjunction with Jupiter in Aries, and made more emotionally extreme by Venus square Pluto. Right? This is all we’ve been talking about since then: guns, aggression, macho men — all related to Mars in Aries. It’s what journalist and fellow astrologer Whitney Fishburn and I talked about in Episode 8 of “Off the Charts: A Stellar Newscast,” which we recorded Tuesday night — then re-recorded on Wednesday (because it was so upsetting to talk about on Tuesday, even with our astro-logical perspective). Your comments most welcome.

A few things we did not mention:

“Police change story 12 times” –– reflecting Mercury retrograde and losing its head on Algol. There’s a higher than average probability for revised stories when Mercury is retrograde. Don’t believe the first report you hear. Here is Heather Cox Richardson’s report, posted on Friday night.
Mars-Jupiter in early Aries hit the root of the U.S. Sibley chart, opposing its 1 Libra Midheaven. We can see how a big explosive expression of aggression/assertion would challenge the very core foundation of our country.
Isn’t it interesting that the NRA planned to meet in Houston on Saturday (today, as I type), with the Mars-Jupiter conjunction in Aries was exact? Isn’t it interesting how many scheduled speakers canceled their appearance, with Mercury Rx on Algol? Coincidence or conspiracy?
Sports figures grabbed our attention — and what are athletes if not warriors on the field, and therefore an expression of Mars in Aries? “Yankees and Rays collaborate on social media to raise awareness of gun violence” and “Coach (Jupiter!) Steve Kerr of the Golden State WARRIORS gives impassioned speech on Texas shooting.”

I told you Ted Cruz would be all over the news, as he always is whenever there’s a planet at 0 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn (collectively known as the attention-grabbing Aries Point). I’d forgotten that Texas gubernatorial candidate and courageous human being Beto O’Rourke also has planets at the Aries Point, and he, too, made big news by challenging Governor Greg Abbott at a press conference. Did you see this photograph? Then he spoke at a protest demonstration outside the NRA convention.

Megan Rapinoe has cause to celebrate, as a deal to pay players on the U.S. men’s and women’s soccer teams equally has been finalized. Credit transiting Mercury on Rapinoe’s 29 Taurus Venus, along with transiting Uranus on the North Node, square Jupiter, for the timing of this announcement. She has Neptune at the Aries Point, too, as you can see from her horoscope.

There were things that happened before Mars entered Aries on Tuesday. The week before that, Mars met up with Neptune in Pisces, suggesting sex scandals, seduction, religious zeal and/or the surreal:

Patterns in his horoscope suggest 2022 is a challenging year, with high stakes and hard work required. He is on the verge of a major transformation, likely manifesting by the end of this year. How he really feels about just about anything is likely to become more prominent.
A conjunction between two planets marks the beginning of a new cycle, and with Mars and Neptune, it might be something viral. How about monkeypox (as Stephen Colbert explains in the clips linked above), or read about it here.

Meanwhile, Jupiter refers to publishing. Together with Mars in Aries, note how this was reflected in The Onion’s coverage of the Texas school massacre. Not to be outdone by The Onion, here’s the cover page of the NYT’s Week in Review. Over at The Guardian, several famous men were asked to recommend their favorite books by women authors. None recommended Judy Blume’s Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret.

What are you reading for fun? I just finished “Freezing Order” by Bill Browder. It’s the sequel to his first non-fiction thriller, “Red Notice,“which I read soon after it was published in 2015. I mentioned Browder in this forecast in 2017 (when he testified before Congress) and briefly discussed his horoscope in 2018. Browder is the Mars-in-Aries spark whose unflagging efforts led to the passage of the Magnitsky Act in 2012, which bars Russians suspected of human rights abuses from entering the U.S., denies them access to U.S. banks and freezes their assets. Since 2012, the Magnitsky Act has been expanded and adopted in other countries, too. “Freezing Order” is a harrowing account of what it took to actually enforce the Magnitsky Act once it was passed. I am in awe of Browder’s courage and (Sun-Jupiter in Taurus) stubborn perseverance. His books offer a helpful perspective for understanding current events in the Western world stage. Highly, highly recommended.

Don’t ever think that one person can’t make a difference in the world. You can make a difference, too. Do it!

Monday 5/23/2022: Mercury in Taurus, Eclipse Triggers; Mars in Aries Demands Our Attention

Alll righty then!

Get ready for another action-packed week, and don’t forget to double-check everything thrice, as Mercury is still retrograde.

MONDAY: Speaking of Mercury retrograde, on Sunday night it moved back into Taurus, where it will be until June 13^th. This gives us three weeks to review our values – especially material values – and how they contribute to our sense of comfort and security. but wait — why three weeks of review, when Mercury turns direct on June 3rd? Good question — and here’s the answer. Even though Mercury will be direct after June 3rd, it’s still going back over ground it’s already covered — so — still a REview! Meanwhile, the Moon is in Pisces, driving the day with a need to work with impressions and ideals. If your day got off to an exuberant start, it reflects the sunny optimism of a sextile (cooperative flow) between Jupiter and the Sun, exact at 7:04 AM ET. This is a good day to reach across the aisle, using the potential for unconventional alliances suggested by the Moon’s sextile to Uranus, exact at 3:52 PM ET. It’s also a good day to walk your (carefully reviewed talk), reflecting the sextile between Mercury and Mars at 11:26 PM ET.
TUESDAY: Still more cooperation in matters of money, worth, aesthetics, women and necessary controls (structures; authority), reflecting the sextile between Venus and Saturn, exact at 7:05 AM ET. Note your dreams in the morning, as the Moon’s conjunction with Neptune at 8:41 AM ET may spark inspiration. Today we may experience a sense of urgency in matters of action and aggression, feeling as if some world is about to end. That sense reflects Mars (action, aggression, guns, cars, the color red, the head, etc.) at the verrrrrrrry end of Pisces. Then — whammo! — at 5:39 PM ET, Moon leaves Pisces for Aries after a six-minute void — followed by Mars leaving Pisces for Aries at 7:17 PM ET. Moon in Aries needs to get things started and in the language of astrology, is more self-centered, compared to Pisces. Mars is the ruler of Aries, and thus functions with high efficiency. Conventional astrological wisdom holds that when Mars is in Aries, it’s generally good for surgery and combat, Mars rules iron and steel. Mars at the beginning of Aries demands prominence is assertion and aggression, so I’m thinking that the primary elections held on this day are going to be talked about. Mars will be in Aries until July 8th. The evening ends on a exuberant note, sponsored by Moon’s meet-up with Jupiter at 10:27 PM ET.
WEDNESDAY: Moon in Aries drives the day with a need to get things started. The only exact aspect is a trine between Mercury and Pluto (exact at 5:48 PM ET), suggesting that the first half of this week will be fruitful for investigative reporters and other persuasive communicators.
THURSDAY: No exact aspects to the Aries Moon from other planets until 5:05 PM ET, when Moon sextiles Saturn. Perhaps we will experience an unfocused desire to get something off the ground, but it doesn’t come together until Moon makes that stabilizing connection. Just before midnight, Moon meets up with Venus and then squares Pluto…with the square between Venus and Pluto exact at 2:28 AM ET on…
FRIDAY. Translation: a conflict between money (and other Venus-ruled matters) and Pluto (power; extremes) has been building all week, possibly reflected in market volatility. Meanwhile, Mercury will be on the Fixed Star Algol, an unfortunate star associated with losing one’s head (literally or perhaps through alcohol), and Mercury will be hanging around Algol from now until June 11th! Not only that, but as Mercury connects with Algol, it may resurrect issues that were hot on Mercury’s first contact with Algol on April 27th…AND it triggers the lunar eclipse of November 19th. Those affected — off the top of my head — include President Biden, Mitch McConnell, Samuel Alito and Nancy Pelosi.
FRIDAY: Moon enters Taurus at 2:22 AM ET seeking to preserve the status quo and calm down whatever ruckus came up under the influence of Venus square Pluto. There are no other planetary patterns on Friday, so if indulging in an extra day of vacation for this long Memorial Day holiday weekend is appealing, go for it. Moon in Taurus supports your indulgence in all pleasure of the senses.
SATURDAY: Moon’s meets up with Uranus at 9:50 AM ET — surprise, surprise. Meanwhile, if matters involving women, social expression, worth and money feel they are at a crisis point, this is Venus at the verrrrrrry end of Aries. Tuesday 5/17/2022: Late Sneak Peek at the Week; Mars-Neptune in Focus; a Saturnine Full Moon/Eclipse

Alllllllrighty then!

It’s Tuesday and Mercury is still retrograde. That’s my explanation for why this forecast was written later than planned. Hopefully many of you have signed up for the Whether Gal segment that is part of Avid Reader Alison’s 2022: Year of Love podcast. That’s where I give a sneak peek of this much more detailed Sneak Peek, and the one that posted this past Sunday includes a stunning visual of the front page of the Sunday NYT that is perfectly in sync with planetary patterns. Astrology is amazing, as the NYT never fails to prove.

Before we get to the day-by-day forecast, let’s take a brief look at the Full Moon/lunar eclipse we had at 12:14 AM ET on Monday. Here it is, set in Washington, D.C.

Observations:

Sun and Moon have just separated from a square to Saturn, suggesting a sobering reality check and themes of cuts, losses and necessary controls.
Sun and Moon have just separated from easy alignments with Neptune, adding themes of healing, bewilderment, spirits of all kinds, etc.
Next on deck: Mars conjunct Neptune in the 2nd house of money, values and worth. Hmm. This suggests potential pixie-dust, actions based on faith and/or fanaticism in matters of money, values and worth.
The Scorpio Moon’s need for depth, power and control opposes the Taurus Sun’s need for material comfort and structure. We expect illumination and release in matters of “mine” vs. “ours.”
This Full Moon is also a lunar eclipse, amplifying themes of release. It echoes patterns in the lunar eclipse of November 19, 2021. If you have planets around 25-27 degrees of Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius, this eclipse affects you more personally. This includes President Biden, Samuel Alito, Brett Kavanaugh and Priscilla Chan (Mark Zuckerberg’s wife). Watch the headlines over the next few months, including news about Facebook. Wherever this eclipse falls in your horoscope is where you may experience a release of what no longer serves. Consult your local astrologer for details. The Sabian Symbols for this eclipse are “Indians making camp” (for the Scorpio Moon) and “a Spaniard serenading his senorita” (for the Taurus Sun). I’m struck by the fact that a serenade is a seductive song, and thus it reflects the Mars-Neptune conjunction in the Full Moon horoscope.
As Blain Bovee writes, “when a Spaniard serenades his senorita, he is attempting to win her favor through soft, alluring songs of love, to win a home in her heart.” “Indians making camp” is another image of finding a home, in this case at the end of a long day’s journey. Bovee suggests we apply these symbols with a mind to “serenity and calm for the joys of an evening after a long day; home-is-where-the-heart-is sentiments; settling into new territory; uplifting influences either by intention or foolish good fortune; willing to be a fool for love, for one’s sense of being at home.”

Not only that, but Episode 18 of 2022: The Year of Love podcast is called “Creating a Home You Love.“ Coincidence or conspiracy?

And now, the week:

MONDAY: Scorpio Moon went void at 5:28 AM ET and over the next 2 1/2 hours, our neighborhood was treated to a constant stream of sirens. Much ado about nothing? Hard to chill, when there’s an ambulance driving through your living room. Or so it seemed. At 7:50 AM ET, Moon soared into Sagittarius, seeking to push boundaries with its righteous opinion. Now is the time to go for a gamble or a gambol; entertain a different point of view (while expressing your own).
TUESDAY: Moon in Sag squares Mars and Neptune minutes before midnight ET. It’s a perfect pattern for an allergic reaction to shellfish. Mars refers to inflammation and provocation; Neptune refers to odd sensations that may be out-of-this-world. What a perfect backdrop for today’s hearings in Congress — on UFOs!! First one they’ve had in 50 years. The focus is military intelligence (Mars) and the unknown (Neptune). Astrology is amazing! Moon goes void on a sextile with Saturn at 11:59 PM ET, offering structure to intangibles. Chill during the 8-hour Moon void…
WEDNESDAY: …during which we will have the potentially wiggy Mars-Neptune conjunction, exact at 2:33 AM ET. What’s it like to be born with a Mars-Neptune conjunction? Ask Governor Greg Abbott (F-TX), who has one in ruthless Scorpio…or Bill Clinton, who has one in sweet-talking Libra, right on his Ascendant. At 8:01 AM ET, Moon enters Capricorn, ready to make something happen with all that seductive charm and/or snake oil. Could be big, as Moon squares Jupiter at 10:21 AM ET. Could also reflect an effortless flow in earthly concerns involving leaders, corporations, power and resources, as Sun trines Pluto at 8:10 AM ET on...
THURSDAY. Unconventional alliances and technology are highlighted as Moon trines Uranus at 9:18 AM ET. A clash of aesthetics may arise around 4:01 PM ET, as Moon squares Venus in Aries (which is all-too willing to put up a fight). Watch for big news involving courts, foreign affairs, sports and publishing — perhaps involving a REview of Things Past, as Mercury retrograde sextiles Jupiter at 9:32 PM ET.
FRIDAY: Night owls can be motivated and inspired by the Moon’s contacts with Neptune and Mars in the wee hours, followed by its weekly clash with Pluto at 6:23 AM ET. Will the earth move? Will power be in play? A stabilizing earthy trine between the Moon and the Sun at 7:59 AM ET keeps it all together. Moon enters Aquarius at 8:52 AM ET, looking for intelligent life in the universe, innovation and a bigger network of friends. Moon gets especially busy around lunchtime ET, trining Mercury and Jupiter at 11:11 AM ET and 11:53 AM ET. What’s the buzz? Meanwhile, this is the last day with the Sun in Taurus, possibly reflected in matters of material comfort and security seeming to be at a crisis point. At 9:22 PM ET, Sun leaves earthy Taurus and enters airy Gemini. Clever communication of boatloads of information is what Gemini is designed to do — often while doing several other things at once (to keep from being bored or boring). If Taurus gives form to Aries’s initiatives; Gemini sells what Taurus builds and takes a commission.
SATURDAY: An upset to the status quo arrives around 11:15 AM ET, as Moon squares Uranus. Idealism in thought and communication — somehow seeing both sides of the same coin — may be expressed around 3:17 PM ET, as Mercury retrograde meets up with the Sun. Enjoy a flirty evening, sponsored in part by Venus in Aries sextile the Aquarius Moon at 10:40 PM ET. Things may be heavy — or simply real — around 3:19 AM ET on…
SUNDAY…as Moon meets up with Saturn and then goes void for the next 8 1/2 hours. That’s your cue to sleep in late and roll with whatever twists and flakes crop up (if you happen to be awake). Remember that crises that happen during Moon voids are usually much ado about nothing, so chill — and avoid impulse shopping. Moon enters Pisces at 11:49 AM ET and promptly squares Mercury (communication snafu?) and then squares the Gemini Sun at 2:43 PM ET, perhaps further challenging efforts to put feelings into words. Regardless, there is an abundance of supercharged assertive & persuasive energy available this weekend, as Mars (action!) sextiles Pluto (power), exact at 6:15 PM ET. At 9:15 PM ET, get ready for another shift as Mercury retrogrades back into Taurus, demanding a rethink of values, money and worth.

And now, the news.

Sunday’s Sun-Saturn square, combined with the Sun-Neptune sextile was expected to reflect heavy news of cuts and losses, bordering on the surreal. Why else would the Sunday NYT editors plan in advance to devote the entire front page to this:

“One million. A nation’s immeasurable grief” — marking the latest death toll in the U.S. from Covid.

The grimness of planetary patterns (with a surreal twist) is this photo of President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, hosting a delegation of Republican senators who were A-OK with defeated former guy’s extortion attempt and delay of promised aid to Ukraine.

Another potential symbolized by Saturn is ambitious advance. Sweden and Finland plan to apply for NATO membership, and their leaders are coming to Washington on Thursday.

In other heavy news:

Britney Spears announced she’d had a miscarriage
Republicans and Joe Manchin refuse to codify a woman’s right to choose
McDonald’s cuts its losses in Russia and leaves for good
Markets are down, including “More than $200 billion erased from entire crypto market in one day.” I see a few factors at play here, including Jupiter’s exit from faith-based Pisces, bursting this year’s Jupiter-Neptune bubble; Uranus hitting the halfway point in its trek through money/food/agriculture Taurus, suggesting a domino effect of disruption. File the news of anticipated “apocalyptic” food shortages there, too. The baby formula crisis in the U.S. seems to be an apt reflection of the 2022 Aries Ingress chart, with the Moon in the 5th house (children) at a crisis point.

The NYT Magazine was devoted to health, and articles featured Saturn’s streamlining and Mars Neptune seductive ideals, as in breast reductions, butt lifts and phalloplasty.

Add Jupiter (expansion) in Aries (firepower, crusades, aggression), and we get:

“Grief and Anger Sweep through Buffalo a Day After a Racist Massacre” and
“A Fringe Conspiracy Theory, Fostered Online, is Refashioned by the GOP”

The massacre in Buffalo was one of several in the U.S. that day, and it is interesting to note how many of those murdered embodied the upside potential of Neptune, e.g., a woman who ran a food pantry; another who cared for her invalid husband; and a savior/physician killed in a church.

Tuesday’s primary races in PA are bonkers, with Dr. Oz (a Mars-Neptune name if ever there was one), a hedge fund guy, and Islamophobe/homophobe Kathryn Barnette duking it out for the Republican nomination, while Barnette and gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano refused to allow press coverage of a “routine campaign event.” We need to keep an eye on the seeds being planted now in this new Mars-Neptune cycle, as we will experience three squares between Mars and Neptune over the next several months: October 12, November 19th and March 14th.

One story we should watch is Ben Bernanke’s opinion that the U.S. is headed for a period of “stagflation,” i.e., continued high prices, but little growth. Let’s see where we are at with that theory during the Mars retrograde period, which begins this fall. Mars retrograde can feel like a truck spinning its wheels in the mud, and three contacts with Neptune can reflect a bubble effect.

UPDATE: on Merrick Garland, who hasn’t had much going on in what we know of his horoscope since 2021. If he was going to do anything useful, we might have heard about it around May 11th. And guess what? He did something — or at least, his Justice Dept. did. “Prosecutors pursue inquiry into DFG’s handling of classified material.”

UPDATE: on Vladimir Putin. The birth data astrologers have is iffy, but if it’s correct, we’d expect a focus on core family and foundation concerns. Thus it was interesting to see an in-depth article about his family in the NYT. It is rumored that he is being treated for cancer and that oligarchs are planning a coup. Let’s see where he’s at in early August.

Meanwhile…

With Jupiter at the Aries Point, we expected to hear news — and we did — involving:

Edward Snowden, who tweeted for the first time since the end of February. His absence was fodder for Twitter gossip, but like clockwork, he made his presence knows — expansively — as Jupiter activated the angles of his horoscope on May 3rd. A few days later, he posted a photo of his family, introducing his second child to the world. Expansive. Got that?
Alexei Navalny, who tweeted about his upcoming appeal re: his presumed transfer to a penal colony more brutal than the one he is in now. The appeal started today and was then delayed to next week, when transiting Mars activates all the angles of his horoscope as it leaves Pisces for Aries.
Ted Cruz, who always always always makes news when a planet hits the Aries Point, and this time, since the planet is potentially lucky Jupiter, he’s a winner, along with campaign corruption.

On Friday the 13th, Jen Psaki said farewell to the White House press corps and introduced her replacement, Karine Jean-Pierre. Heather Cox Richardson explains it all for you — except for the part about their horoscopes. Psaki’s can be found in a post from January 2021. I’d continue this comparison but it turns out that there are conflicting reports in reputable media outlets re: Jean-Pierre’s birth date (1974 or 1977). For now let’s just observe that Jean-Pierre’s Leo Sun will be under the influence of Saturn for the second and third time in 2022 at the end of August and mid-December, as Saturn in Aquarius opposes it. Many thanks to Avid Reader Lynn for alerting me to the conflicting dates in an earlier version of this forecast.

Finally, longtime Avid Readers may be familiar with the disembodied entities who call themselves the Hathors, and are channeled by sound healer Tom Kenyon. They had plenty to say during the Uranus-Pluto square of 2011 – 2016, most of which was warning bells and coping strategies for staying grounded in the anticipated storm. They’ve been quiet since January 2021, but Kenyon posted a message on Sunday, and given its content, it’s astonishingly in sync with that day’s planetary patterns! On the Saturn hand, the Hathors think we’re toast. OK, not quite — but they think we’re likely to downsize — as it were — before it gets better. On the Neptune hand, they offer helping coping tips, including a sound meditation (soooo Neptune!).

Monday 5/9/2022: Sneak Peek at the Week; Mercury is RETROGRADE; Jupiter in Aries

We have two big planetary shifts this week, and they both happen on TUESDAY. Mercury goes retrograde and Jupiter leaves Pisces for its first passage into Aries.

Here’s how it goes:

MONDAY: the Leo Moon opposed Saturn at 8:38 AM ET. If you were grumpy, fine. if you were motivated to get some work done in the wee hours, even better. Moon went void immediately thereafter, not to enter Virgo until 6:53 PM ET. If you took today off, good for you. Moon voids are fine times to flake out, as nothing of consequence is likely to occur, and crises that do crop up are usually much ado about nothing. Chill! Use the Virgo Moon to sort it all out over the next few days…but watch out for the usual Mercury retrograde snafus, especially around 4:09 AM ET on…
TUESDAY: …as the Moon squares Mercury at its apparent standstill. As 7:47 AM ET, the Messenger Planet officially starts its backwards trek through the sky.

A pause, while I present this Really Useful Mercury Retrograde Survival Guide:

Contrary to popular belief, Mercury retrograde is no reason to freak out. Mercury retrograde gets a bad rap because we are geared, in this crazy modern age, to always be thinking, doing, moving FORWARD. You know what that gets you? BURN OUT. We need our down times, and Mercury retrograde is a perfect time to give our minds a rest. Why else would your computer, phone and/or car choose THIS time to malfunction? Because you are supposed to be slowing down. And as you slow down, it is vitally important that you FOCUS.

When Mercury is retrograde, be prepared for travel delays, scheduling screw-ups, mechanical breakdowns, computer crashes, having to repeat what you’ve just said, misunderstandings, the past coming back for a second look, surprise reunions and having to repeat what you just said. Use your FOCUS and double-check important details, like whether the restaurant you’ve chosen for a meet-up is still in business. Or whether it is booked for a commercial shoot or a private party — all of which has happened to me during Mercury retrogrades.

If you are looking for a job, Mercury retrogrades are a perfect time to reach out to people from your past. Mine your address book and trust that your contacts will be happy to hear from you. However, do not be frustrated if your target is away on vacation or keeps rescheduling meetings. Also, triple-check your emails and resumes before you hit “send,” as there is a higher probability of typos and other sloppy snafus.

In your business, you’ll need to make sure all communications have been received and are clearly understood. Be mindful of the higher potential for communications equipment to go on the fritz. MAKE SURE YOUR FILES ARE BACKED UP. Also be aware of a higher than average probability for delays in shipping and travel arrangements. For this you will need an extra dose of patience.

You may also find it profitable to REview a project from the past. Maybe you shelved it then, but now is the time to REconsider. However, be advised that a spontaneously, “out-of-the-blue” idea for advancement may not be so sound when Mercury turns direct. This is why the conventional wisdom advises against finalizing and/or signing contracts on deals during Mercury retrograde. An exception might be supported if you are REnegotiating or RElocating. If you absolutely must close a deal, triple check everything. The key is not to RUSH.

This is a good time to schedule a corporate REtreat. Any activity that affords the opportunity to REview past performance is encouraged. REsearch on a new strategy is also favored.

Mercury retrogrades are not favored for launching a new website or a new communications systems. There is a higher than average probability of technical glitches and confusion. REvisions, however, are A-OK.

In general, adopt a playful attitude of flexibility to whatever twists you encounter. Avoid making major purchases (especially electronic ones), unless your A/C unit has died and there’s a heat wave. Sometimes you just have to buy an appliance, Mercury retrograde or not. This is life. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Don’t believe everything you hear or read in the papers when Mercury is retrograde. Rumors have a higher probability of spreading. Avoid losing patience — that’s a big one.

When in doubt, be silent!

Do plan on RElaxing, REviewing, REsearching, REorganizing, REgenerating, REconnecting and REcreating….and REviewing your life with your astrologer.

Mercury turns retrograde at 4 Gemini. It will travel backward in Gemini until May 22nd, when it backs into Taurus. Mercury will turn direct on June 3rd at 26 Taurus, where it will be conjunct the Fixed Star Algol. This star is tied to the head of the Medusa, and we may be hearing stories of people literally losing their heads around this time. Mercury reenters Gemini on the Full Moon of June 14th. Mercury won’t cover new ground until June 18th, when it reaches 4 Gemini (where it is right now).

Mercury retrograde in Gemini suggests a ton of double-talk and “on the other hand” discussions, and even an insistence that two contradictions can both be true at the same time. Hey, Gemini sees it both ways. Clever and entertaining wordplay is likely to capture our imagination, none of it really going anywhere, but gosh, it sure is fun.

The Sabian Symbol for this Mercury retrograde is “a radical magazine,” which image of “a periodical publication of extreme views demanding widespread social and political change,” writes Sabian Sage Blain Bovee. OMG — astrology is AMAZING. It occurs to me that a magazine is also “a chamber for holding a supply of cartridges to be fed automatically to the breech of a gun,” (says your local dictionary), and this ties in curiously with Jupiter’s ingress into warrior Aries. Watch the headlines.

You are more personally affected by this Mercury retrograde if you have planets or angles around 26 Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, and 4 degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, or Pisces. Consult your local astrologer for details.

TUESDAY: At 7:22 PM ET, Jupiter enters Aries. Jupiter refers to expansion and often, reward. Jupiter can be buoyant on the upside; bombastic on the downside. While it is in Aries, things are geared toward action, crusades and heat. More Aries keywords are here. Yes, this summer is going to be hot. We’re already seeing it in the wildfires burning in the Southwest, and in the “historic drought” happening in SoCal.

A pause, while we recap what was written about Jupiter in Pisces and Aries at the end of 2021:

When in Pisces, Jupiter is likely to expand matters involving all Piscean themes: empathy, refugees, oceans, feet, and faith, to name a few. Jupiter was in Pisces in 2010 when the Affordable Care Act was passed. That was a big statement of empathy and healing, was it not? Jupiter will be in Pisces until May 25th and then dips into Aries. On July 28th, Jupiter turns retrograde at 8 Aries and will stay in Aries until October 28th.

With Jupiter in Aries for the summer, I expect an excess of heat — and an expansion of all matters related to Aries, e.g., initiative, pioneers, war, steel, iron, crusades, cars, the color red, courage, and Mars. Jupiter turns direct on November 24th at 28 Pisces and returns to Aries on December 20th — right before the Winter Solstice. Anyone born with planets between 28 Pisces and 8 Aries gets a triple hit of expansion potential in 2022 — and we can expect to see a lot of them in the headlines.

We can also expect that all matters ruled by Jupiter will be colored by the energy of either Pisces or Aries next year. So if Jupiter refers to horses (which it does), we will see matters involving horses reflecting Pisces themes of empathy, victims, faith, etc. When Jupiter enters Aries, perhaps the word “warhorse” will capture our attention. Other Jupiter keywords include law, religious dogma, growth, generosity, the liver, the lungs, blood, hubris, reward, aspirations, counselors, and the all-important asparagus.

Speaking of Jupiter referring to horses, with Jupiter at the Aries Point over the weekend, isn’t it amazing that horses were so prominent in the news? I’m talking about Rich Strike, the horse that won the Kentucky Derby with odds of 80-1!!!

Back to the forecast:

WEDNESDAY: A steamy-provocative morning, as Mars in Pisces opposes the Virgo Moon at 8:17 AM ET. An earthy balance may be had around 10:01 AM ET, as Moon trines the Taurus Sun. Happy Hour could be dreamy or wiggy, as Moon opposes Neptune at 5:16 PM ET. Have a dose of emotional depth with that last round, as Moon trines Pluto at 11:59 PM ET, and then goes void.
THURSDAY: Moon enters Libra at 2:34 AM, seeking balance, fairness and diplomacy in relationships. A burst of fiery exuberance may be had around 3:01 AM ET, as Moon opposes Jupiter. Harmony between Moon and Mercury retrograde in Gemini facilitates a productive review. The evening may be testy, as the Moon in Libra’s people-pleasing needs are challenged by Venus in me-me-me Aries, exact at 11:49 PM ET.
FRIDAY: Moon in Libra travels through the day without interference. A stabilizing trine to Saturn at 9:53 PM ET ends the work week.
SATURDAY: A power play or catharsis in the wee hours, as Moon makes its weekly clash with Pluto at 4:07 AM ET, and then goes void until 6:33 AM ET. Moon then plunges into Scorpio, demanding emotional depth and substance. It’s not void, so you’re free to snap up yard sale bargains. Moon travels without interference for the whole day, but may be feeling the weight of the world.
SUNDAY: Gravitas is disrupted or simply disruptive around 8:04 AM ET, as Moon opposes Uranus. At 2:48 PM ET, the Sun squares Saturn. Sun refers to leaders of business and state; Saturn refers to cuts, losses and necessary controls. Minutes later, at 3:14 PM ET, Sun sextiles Neptune, suggesting themes of spirit, sacrifices and soulful artistry. Emotions are on the rise, as the Moon waxes to fullness on Monday. We’re getting ready for a lunar eclipse, too — and a SuperMoon. It all happens ’round midnight, preceded by the gravitas of Moon square Saturn, exact at 11:38 PM ET.

The solar eclipse and New Moon in Taurus are behind us, and we’ll find out what the former was all about around July 20th. This week, we can put the New Moon energy to good use, supported by numerous easy alignments among the planets. Don’t be evil. Here’s how it goes:

MONDAY: Moon enters Gemini at 6:46 AM ET, driving the next two days with a need for information and communication. At 11:05 AM ET, Moon meets up with Mercury, and you can really get the word out. ICYMI, Mercury entered Gemini on Friday night and it will hang there until May 22nd, when it re-enters Taurus. You know what that means, right? It means that Mercury will soon be turning retrograde, and you can plan for that by BACKING UP YOUR COMPUTERS AND DATABASES NOW. As of April 27th, we’re in the shadow period of the Mercury retrograde, which means that great ideas, documents, diplomatic and business deals initiated now may be subject to review and revision between May 10th and June 18th, which is how long it will take Mercury to return to 4 Gemini, which is where it will turn retrograde on May 10th. Got that? Stay tuned for more Mercury Rx coping strategies.
MONDAY: At 12:10 PM Venus – which symbolizes our need for social expression – exits Pisces and enters Aries. So for the next few weeks – until May 28^th – social expression may be more direct, crusading and possibly aggressive – reflecting the warrior Aries need to assert its own existence. Because the first degree of Aries is the Aries Point, we expect that Venus-related issues are likely to be prominent today. Watch for news of women, money, art, values, social expression, and Ted Cruz.
TUESDAY: Gemini Moon squares Mars at 10:41 AM ET, possibly sparking an argument. Find a productive use for the assertive drive. Your quest for world domination is supported by a rare harmony between Jupiter (expansion) and Pluto (power and resources), exact at 6:33 PM ET. What fresh hell will we see from the corporate Powers That Be? OTOH, there’s no reason why this cooperative energy can’t apply for the greater good. Maybe we’ll hear more about efforts to unionize, as Moon trines Saturn in groupthink Aquarius on..
WEDNESDAY: at 7:50 AM ET. Note your dreams upon waking, as Moon squares Neptune at 8:15 AM ET. At 11:46, put an innovative, technological spin on your action plan, reflecting the potential of Mars, as it sextiles Uranus. Around 4:36 PM ET, Moon squares Jupiter, suggesting big news, announced with exuberance. Chill during the 2 1/2 hour Moon void, and don’t make a mountain out of a molehill. At 7:05 PM Moon enters Cancer, driving the rest of the work week with a focus on emotional, home and homeland security.
THURSDAY: Collectively, we may be in for a surprise, reflecting the annual conjunction of the Sun and Uranus at 3:21 AM ET. The Sun refers to leaders of state and business; Uranus refers to shocks to the system, for better or worse – including rebellion, genetic mutations and seismic activity. Here are headlines from the Sun-Uranus conjunction of 2020, with other good stuff on the ongoing Saturn-Uranus square. The Cancer Moon travels through the day without connections to the other kids in the cosmic sandbox, giving us space to absorb whatever revelations are reflected by the Sun-Uranus meet-up. FRIDAY: Sextiles among Mercury and Venus at 2:01 AM ET, Sun and Mars on SATURDAY at 5:47 AM ET. Communication may be effective and inspiring; action plans go off without a hitch, especially on FRIDAY as the Cancer Moon is supported by the Sun, Mars and Neptune.
SATURDAY: Moon makes its weekly clash with Pluto at 4:59 AM ET, then aligns with Jupiter at 6:26 AM ET. Note that Jupiter is at the verrrrrry end of Pisces, soon to enter Aries for the first of three ingresses in 2022. Remember that Pisces is about endings and planets at the verrrrry end of a sign can feel as if they are in crisis mode. Jupiter-related themes are likely to be extremely prominent over the next few days because Jupiter is not only at the end of Pisces, but it’s at the Aries Point. People whose horoscopes are affected include Edward Snowden and Alexei Navalny — off the top of my head.
SATURDAY: Moon enters Leo at 7:49 AM ET, bringing out your local drama queens and kings, who are only too happy take the stage, throw a party or issue a royal command. Moon in Leo needs to be loved – which makes sense when you consider that in the language of astrology, Leo rules the heart. You can make good use of the weekend’s heart-centered energy by telling someone how much they are appreciated – and loved. You may have a fine opportunity to do just that around 4:58 PM ET (Moon sextiles Mercury) or about 8:01 PM ET (Moon trines Venus).
SUNDAY: A disruption to the status quo may pop up around 1:41 PM ET, as Moon squares Uranus. More tension and adjustments may occur, as Moon squares the Taurus Sun at 8:21 PM ET. Neither Taurus nor Leo is known for giving an inch.

Meanwhile, here are stories I was going to include in last week’s forecast, but I was concerned I was giving you way too much to deal with in one forecast.

Reflecting the heavy squeeze suggested by Sunday morning’s square between Mercury and Saturn, it’s interesting to learn that this is when Twitter’s board met to discuss Elon Musk’s takeover bid last weekend,Mercury sextiled Neptune at 6:37 PM ET, putting an idealistic spin on the earlier gravitas (remember this is what was anticipated in the forecast last week?). Negotiations continued into the wee hours, while the Moon was void for nearly ten hours, for gawd’s sake.

I wonder how much of the Mercury-Saturn gravitas at the start of their meeting was as a result of a letter sent to the Twitter board by 18 House Republicans, including four who were named in the preceding paragraph’s list. That letter would be taking a page out of the playbook of Viktor Orban of Hungary, who uses financial “incentives” as a way of maintaining power, explained in this write-up of Orban’s horoscope…and also in one of Heather Cox Richardson’s Letters from last week. HCR also covers how the Florida legislature, directed by Governor Ron DeSantis, passed legislation that dissolved the land use deal Disney has had since 1967, in retaliation against Disney for speaking out against DeSantis’ “Don’t Say ‘Gay'” bill.

Meanwhile, DeSantis also directed lawmakers to pass his personally-drawn redistricting map for the state, which eliminated two districts represented by Black members of Congress, including the Val Demings (D-FL), who hopes to win Marco Rubio’s Senate seat in November.

Elsewhere, the populist party lost to the environmentalist party in Slovenia last week. It’s quite an extraordinary story, so check out that link if you don’t already know the details.

UPDATE: on VP Kamala Harris. Remember I told you that the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction affected her horoscope more than most? On the day of transiting Neptune’s first of multiple exact squares to her Ascendant, she tested positive for Covid.

Also fun: the upside potential of challenging aspects between Mars (action, assertion) and Neptune (pixie-dust, music), as evidenced by Randy Rainbow. He has an exact Mars-Neptune opposition that also engages his super clever Mercury (in Gemini) and probably his perfection-seeking Virgo Moon. Here’s a write-up of his horoscope from a few years ago. Last week, as transiting Jupiter (expansion, publishing) made contact with his Mercury, the NYT reported this:
