Tuesday 12/24/2019: Late Sneak Peek at the Holiday Week; New Moon/Solar Eclipse in Capricorn

…and a Merry Christmas Eve to all! The NORAD Santa tracker says jolly old St. Nick is heading for Freetown in Sierra Leone as I type…ho, ho, ho! With the Moon in Sagittarius, it’s a fine time for world travel and discussing collective beliefs, even if they’re not your own. We have strong potential for innovation and tolerance, courtesy of a harmony between the Capricorn Sun and Uranus in Taurus, exact at 4:43 PM ET.

Here’s how the rest of the week goes:

  • WEDNESDAYMoon goes void at 6:18 AM ET and won’t enter Capricorn until 4:45 PM ET. You know the drill: chill, chill, chill — and roll with the twists and flakes that may disrupt efforts to move forward in a straight line. Remember that crises that crop up are often much ado about nothing. Remember also that the Moon is both dead and about to eclipse the Sun. Both of these conditions may contribute to a sense of restlessness. Chill!  Even when the Moon enters Capricorn, seeking to make something happen, chill. Count your blessings and tune in to the upside of the Sun’s annual meet-up with expansive Jupiter, exact on Friday. That upside is a generous spirit and optimism, perhaps inspiring you to go overboard on last-minute holiday presents? It certainly played out in the markets today with another record high — as anticipated — and they’re even calling it the “Santa Rally.” I call it Sun conjunct Jupiter, trine Uranus.
  • THURSDAY — at 12:13 AM ET the Capricorn Moon eclipses the Capricorn Sun at 4 degrees of that sign. Happy New Moon! Where have we seen this before? On Christmas Day 2000, since you ask, 12 days after the Supreme Court issued its ruling in Bush v. Gore, which made Bush our 43rd president instead of the man who would have fought like hell to save the glaciers. Wow. Wow! That eclipse was followed by a lunar eclipse at 20 degrees of Cancer on January 9, 2001 — to be repeated on January 10th. But wait –there’s more: the solar eclipse at 0 Cancer on June 21, 2001 will be repeated on June 20, 2020. If planets or significant points in your horoscope were directly affected by these prior eclipses, it will be helpful to review what happened in your life in 2001. Any big changes? More may be in store for you in 2020.

A pause — while we discuss this New Moon/Solar Eclipse.

A New Moon offers an opportunity to set our intentions for the next 28ish days. The eclipse adds potency to seeds that may be planted.  Why? Because a solar eclipse acts like a “bottleneck” of energy. Light flowing from the Sun is temporarily interrupted, focusing attention on that interrupted point. As light is held back, something new and possibly fragile may enter the picture and grow. And here I would be thinking of Michael, the kindhearted policeman in the storybook Make Way for Ducklings, who stopped the flow of traffic on Beacon Street so Mr. and Mrs. Mallard and their brood of eight could safely make their way to the Boston Public Garden. Otherwise, they would have been roadkill. Got that?

When the eclipse is activated, the bottleneck of energy surges forward. Resistance is futile. Whatever was planted accelerates in growth — as fast as you can say “Jack and the Beanstalk!” With this eclipse happening in Capricorn, the seeds planted involve matters of  ambition, authority and achievement.  This is an awesome opportunity for structure and strategy on your plans for world domination. You can even take a clandestine meeting or two, in this dark of the Moon. Want to know how this eclipse affects your own personal horoscope? I’ll send you a few paragraphs of personal insights in a day or so.

The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is “Indians rowing a canoe and dancing a war dance.” Sabian sage Blain Bovee points out that these Indians are a group of impassioned people, united in a common purpose. We are advised to apply the potency of the New Moon with a mind for “creative and skillful ways to navigate extreme differences in power; guerrilla tactics against a powerful foe; issues of being swept away by ingenious ways to maneuver on one’s own course. All’s fair in love and war: the issue lies in what strokes of genius one brings to navigating that which is deep and powerful.” Wow!

We live in such interesting times. In your own personal world, I’d say this symbol demands that you think outside the box — and get a group to support you.

Here’s the chart for the eclipse, set in Washington DC:

So much of what I see in this chart refers to creative vision and beliefs, for better or for worse. Some astrologers have pointed out that the Sun-Moon-Jupiter conjunction is close to a conjunction with the South Node. In the language of astrology, the South Node may refer to the experience we bring into this life from past lives. In the present lifetime, it can be an unhelpful fall-back position. It’s unhelpful because it is opposed to the North Node, which represents what we need to develop in order to maximize spiritual growth. Someone with a South Node in Capricorn has been to the top of the mountain and is used to having authority. But what they need to learn is the lesson of their Cancer North Node. They would be encouraged to learn how to nurture — and be comfortable in the realm of emotion, especially with allowing themselves to be vulnerable.

Having this eclipse so close to the South Node suggests an opportunity to release what may be toxic about Capricorn’s ability to wield authority. Too much is not a good thing. The South Node in this chart is at 8 Capricorn — which is conjunct the Fixed Star known as Facies. This is a challenge, as Facies is considered to be unfortunate — with themes of ruthlessness and victimization. Yowza! Who would want to be born under the influence of a star like that? Well — there’s always an upside potential.

Anthony Hopkins was born with Facies conjunct his Capricorn Sun and his Part of Fortune — literally a point of luck in the horoscope. I can’t find it now, but I was just reading an article where he talked about how playing Hannibal Lechter — a horrific character — was such a fortunate role for him (!).  Remember that when you are wearing your  amateur astrologer hat and thinking thoughts of gloom and doom because you’re having a Saturn Return or some other heavy pattern. There is always a positive application.

Back to the week at hand:

  • FRIDAYMoon in Capricorn is oh-so-focused in the AM, as it makes its weekly clash with the Lean Mean Meet-Up of Saturn and Pluto, exact at 7:08 AM and 9:42 AM ET. At 1:26 PM ET, the Sun meets up with Jupiter — that’s right, from one extreme to the other. Did you buy a few lottery tickets? Someone is likely to win big. Moon goes void at 4:03 PM ET and enters Aquarius on…
  • SATURDAYat 12:01 AM ET. At 5:32 AM ET it meets up with Uranus, reflecting whatever jolt you may receive in the morning. Moon cruises through the day free of any other speed bumps. A notable shift happens two minutes before midnight ET, when Mercury exits Sagittarius and enters Capricorn. Say arriverderci to  sloppy-big thinking and Guten Tag to the practical, earthy and strategic mindset Mercury in Capricorn needs to have. The Capricorn mantra is “how can we make this work?”
  • SUNDAYMoon is in Aquarius all day — no speed bumps. Hang with your besties, on the penultimate day of the decade — I can’t believe it’s going to be 2020…!

Oh, lookie! Santa just left Uruguay. Paraguay, he here comes! I better go put some cookies out…

Wishing you a joyous holiday week — let’s talk soon about your plans for 2020. It’s time for your annual check-up!
