I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Tuesday 11/8/2022: Sneak Peek at the Week, Part 2
/in The ForecastIt’s Monday night — and in seven hours, I’ll be up and running to a local polling site. There, I’ll spend the next 17 hours serving as a poll worker — paid with your tax dollars. Please tell me you’ve already voted — or that you will this Election Day.
The general feel of the start of this week is what I wrote in the last forecast:
Here’s the day-by-day play-by-play:
I urge you to read Beth Owl’s Tarot Card of the Week for further marching orders. The High Priestess is paying us a visit, and as Beth says, “she means business.”
Time does not permit me to do a deep dive on the lunar eclipse chart, though it’s the last one we’ll see in this part of the world until 2025. The Sabian Symbol for the eclipsed Moon reminds me of the High Priestess, according to Sabian Symbologist Saijin. Taurus 16 corresponds to “an old man vainly trying to reveal the Mysteries.” James Burgess has a helpful take, too. The Sabian Symbol for the Sun is “a girl’s face breaking into a smile.” We could all use a break and a smile right about now. Here’s Blain Bovee’s take on that. And speaking of smiles and the Sun, did you see the latest photo from NASA?
I leave you with John Oliver’s latest episode of Last Week Tonight. It’s about Election Subversion. If you take time to watch it, I hope it motivates you to get to the polls — in several hours — if you haven’t already done so.
And did you see this story about President Biden’s recent trip to San Diego, where he “stopped mid-speech to recognize a teen’s sign about his stutter.” That was an apt reflection of the unconventional, disruptive potential of Venus (social expression) as it opposed Uranus.
Right-o. Off to catch a few hours of sleep before my stint at the polls. I love making people feel good about exercising their right to vote. VOTE!
Here’s the 411 on personal consultation
Yes, I am still offering personalized eclipse insights and Mars retrograde insights — check out last Monday’s forecast for details.
If you’d like to listen to the astrology of election day, here’s the podcast — Off the Charts: A Stellar Newscast
Thank you for reading this forecast — and sharing it with friends.
...and then you’ll be sorry. VOTE!!!
Saturday 11/5/2022: Sneak Peek at the Week, Part 1
/in The ForecastIt’s Saturday night. Do you know where your planets are?
I’ll tell you.
Sun, Mercury and Venus are jammed together in Scorpio. Mercury and Venus are so close to the Sun that you can hardly see them at all. Mercury refers to how we need to think and communicate; Venus refers to who, what and how we need to love — including money. Thus, what people value and how they think about them can’t be seen with the naked eye…and not only that, Scorpio is a mute sign — so how would they even tell you. Therefore, pay no attention to those pesky pollsters or media outlets who think they know what people are thinking. No one knows with absolute certainty.
All this week, this Scorpio trio is going to receive — one-by-one — a jolt of disruptive energy from rebel Uranus, followed by a challenging squeeze or effort at regaining control, courtesy of a square from Saturn.
Not only that, but on Tuesday, the Moon gets its turn at receiving a jolt, followed by an effort to regain control.
Not only THAT, but it’s a Full Moon and a total lunar eclipse.
Not only THAT!!!, but Mars in double-talking Gemini is moving backwards, towards a clash with wiggy Neptune, scrambling words and channels of communication.
Who knows what to believe?
You do — deep down inside — so do pay attention to that inner knowing. It’ll cut through the static like Grace Slick’s isolated vocal tracks in White Rabbit.
Meanwhile, according to an old wives’ tale, you can keep your grounding cord down during an eclipse by eating potatoes.
Early next week could be bountiful — maybe even by the weekend — especially if you have planets around 28 degrees of Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces.
I’ll write more about the astrology of the rest of the week in a separate forecast. Meanwhile, Episode 19 of Off the Charts: A Stellar Newscast— with co-host Whitney Fishburn — did ship on Friday, and there you can listen to us talk about the astrology of election day, the Twitter meltdown, Mars retrograde and more. For example, at about eight minutes in, you’ll hear us say that Oprah Winfrey should be speaking up any minute now re: the Pennsylvania senate race — noting patterns in Oprah’s horoscope. On Thursday, Oprah announced that if she lived in Pennsylvania, she would have already voted for John Fetterman. We recorded the episode on Wednesday. Fun!
In other news, historian Heather Cox Richardson is aptly in sync with the weekend’s planetary patterns. Reflecting Venus — disrupting the status quo by opposition to Uranus, and then getting seriously down to business with a square to Saturn — HCR explains how women finally won the right to vote in America.
Don’t forget to turn your clocks back tonight — and enjoy that extra hour of sleep!
Here’s the 411 on personal consultations.
Thank you for reading this forecast.
Tuesday 11/1/2022: Late Sneak Peek at the Week; It’s a Mars, Mars, Mars World
/in The ForecastAlllllll righty then!
Since October 27th, when Mercury squared Pluto (a day for ruthless and persuasive communication; a field day for investigative journalists), there are no exact aspects among the planets, other than those that involve the Moon until...Saturday, November 5th, when Venus (money, women, values) opposes Uranus (unconventional attractions; rebels). Over the years, I have observed that these relatively long stretches of little contact may be experienced as if we are watching an ice shelf suddenly crumble into the ocean. Now you see it; now you don’t. The landscape is forever changed. The last time we had a week like this was in September, when Queen Elizabeth left the building. After this week, the next stretch will be the week of Thanksgiving.
The big shift this week is the status of Mars — planet of anger, action and assertion. As you may know, Mars turned retrograde on Sunday at 9:25 AM ET. In my own personal world, I experienced this at the local farmers’ market. There was a 10-minute waiting time at nearly every stall, and cars blaring their horns in the street. More than one neighbor told me they couldn’t sleep the night before (me neither). You?
Mars is retrograde in Gemini, which suggests a war of words — and perhaps a war on words. Now, more than ever, be very careful about giving in to the impulse to lash out in anger. When Mars is retrograde, the energy of action and assertion naturally turns inward. Yes, by all means, get in touch with your burning desire…because that is turning inward. If you’re angry, grab a tennis racket and smack a pillow…or howl at the moon. Lashing out is not appropriate when Mars is retrograde — and such outbursts have a higher probability of backfiring. Same goes for reckless hook-ups and impulsive splits.
Another need of Mars, traveling through Gemini: diversity in action, especially w/respect to the expression of thought and communication. Diversity can fragment and dilute. I’m thinking of this with respect to what’s happening on Twitter, now that Elon Musk is the self-proclaimed Chief Twit. Twitter has been a potent gathering place for a certain group of thought leaders, and Musk is doing a great job stinking up the joint, as the Sabian Symbol for last week’s New Moon suggested someone would do:
Astrology is amazing.
Anyhoo…
Mars will be retrograde until January 12th. Mars squares Neptune for the second time (the first square was on October 12th) on November 19th. Mars-Neptune can be seductive, scandalous, out-of-this-world or fanatical. Mars in an energized contact with Neptune may be inspiring or delusional about all Mars-ruled themes: men, cars, wars, iron and the color red. Neptune themes may simply be provoked or provocative. Those include oceans, empathy, spirits of all kinds, oil, refugees and surrender.
Meanwhile…
If you would like a few paragraphs of personal insights on managing expectations for this seven-month spell of Mars in Gemini (and its retrograde), toss $52 into my Cosmic Tip Jar as a Joyful Random Expression of Appreciation. An Avid Reader asked for this offer, and I’m happy to oblige. And yes, I’m still offering personalized insights on the October 25th and November 8th eclipses. Those handcrafted insights are also $52. If I don’t have your birth data, please send it via email. Glad to be of service!
And now, the daily forecast:
And now, the news.
As you may recall, Saturn turned direct a week ago last Sunday. Saturn refers to streamlining, controls and grief. I experienced an interesting reflection of these themes last Wednesday, when I impulsively took a virtual booth in a virtual lounge at a virtual career conference organized by alums from the Seven Sisters colleges. I did this last year at a similar conference and had a blast talking about astrology to several women who stopped by — all thanks to the virtual networking power of Saturn in technogeek Aquarius.
The opportunity was offered just a few days before Saturn’s change of station (and the start of the conference) This time, no conference attendees stopped by (no surprise, as the organizers provided zero publicity for us gals in their respective lounges). But two women who had taken virtual booths did — both of whom reflected the Saturn focus! Julie Coraccio (Mount Holyoke) is a decluttering diva — and she works virtually from Wheeling, WVA. One of her specialties is helping clients with all aspects of end-of-life organizing. Decluttering? End-of-life organization? How Saturn is that? Here is Julie’s website.
Montserrat Kim (Smith College) has written a book to help children cope with the loss of a family member. When A Dragon Comes is based on a true story: her husband’s battle with colon cancer (he died in 2019). Montserrat has established a non-profit organization and is looking to publish other books to help children cope with grief, which — as I said — is definitely a Saturn theme.
Astrology. Is. Amazing. And to Julie and Montserrat, thanks for stopping by my virtual booth at the virtual Seven Sisters Career Conference!
OK. The news.
Mars turning retrograde brought anger, explosions, war, iron/steel/metal, cars, machismo and Mars itself into focus, like a blaring car horn:
UPDATE: on Barack Obama, another horoscope under high developmental tension. Saturn is right on his Ascendant, squared by Uranus — and there’s more. Obama was all over the news this weekend, as Stephen Colbert reports.
Finally, the runoff in Brazil between authoritarian Jair Bolsonaro and democratic environmentalist Lula resulted in a razor-thin victory…for the rain forest. Lula was declared the winner…but.. Bolsonaro has not officially conceded. Heather Cox Richardson has more details. Meanwhile, in Israel, it’s another close call, with former PM Benjamin Netanyahu expected to make a comeback, according to the polls.
But hey — in these times — there’s no point in paying attention to the polls. Avid Readers were advised many moons ago that elections occurring around this time would be nail-biters. Your mission is to get to the polls and VOTE! Because if you don’t vote, someone else will. And then you’ll be sorry. Please check your voter registration status here.
Here’s the 411 on personal consultations. We will have a fine discussion together.
Finally, Whitney Fishburn and I are psyched to record Episode 19 of Off the Charts: A Stellar Newscast on Wednesday afternoon. It’ll be released on Friday — and we’ll be talking about everything under the sun. Tune in, won’t you?
Thank you for reading this forecast — and sharing it with friends.
Monday 10/24/2022: Sneak Peek at the Week; New Moon/Eclipse in Scorpio; Retrograde Mars; Jupiter Back in Pisces
/in The ForecastAllll righty then!
We’re rolling into eclipse season (Oct 25 and Nov 8), and yes, I am offering Avid Readers a few paragraphs of personal insights on what to expect from these two eclipses, based on your unique horoscope. Eclipses accelerate progress, and experience has shown that it is helpful to understand in advance when said progress will be accelerated, and what areas of your life are likely to be lit up. Here are the highlights of the week:
Awesome! We have something to look forward to every day!
Generally speaking, planetary patterns aptly reflect Beth Owl’s Daughter’s Tarot Card of the Week. Saturn is just barely moving forward; Mars is slowing down to a virtual standstill. We’re in the dark of the Moon now — with no light to guide us — and what little stream of light there is will be partially interrupted on the eclipse on Tuesday. Jupiter is also slowing down. We are feeling stuck — but hey! We have the power to free ourselves — and this week, the way to do it is with our beautiful collective mind.
Here’s how the week goes:
Here is the New Moon/Solar Eclipse, set in Washington, D.C.:
Observations:
Back to the forecast:
A pause, while we discuss Mars retrograde:
We experience Mars retrogrades “every two years or so,” according to an official NASA site — which also offers a nifty animation explaining why planets seem to be move backwards in the sky from our point of view — even though they really don’t.
Mars is the planet of desire, action, anger and assertion. Moving backwards is not comfortable for Mars! Thus, many people find themselves more irritated, impatient and frustrated than usual. Why aren’t things moving forward fast enough? It feels like a truck spinning its wheels in the mud. Frustration built up can lead to an urge to jump into action — rashly. Resist this urge!
A more appropriate use of Mars retrograde is to treat it as an opportunity to plan strategy. Think of a coach calling a time out on the playing field. Mars retrograde is a good time to huddle — to turn inward — and reflect upon or talk about a strategy for…oh…I know I’ve said this before — walking your talk — suggested by Mars being in retrograde in GEMINI. Also apt: raise your awareness of the power of words, and how they are currently being used as weapons. Consider an alternative perspective, as Mars in Gemini seeks a diverse — albeit intensely clever — approach.
The last time Mars was retrograde in Gemini was in January 2008, after six weeks of being retrograde in Cancer. Where were you back then?
Mars turns retrograde at 25 Gemini. It is fascinating to note that this was the degree of the New Moon of June 2015, and here is what was happening back then. There you will find a summary of the Sabian Symbol for this Mars retrograde, “a winter frost in the woods.” You are more personally affected by this Mars retrograde if you are VP Kamala Harris or Jeb Bush.
And now, the news.
It was a no-good, horrible week for Liz Truss, who resigned as the UK’s prime minister after 45 days in office. How humiliating — to have been outlasted by a head of lettuce. But it did prove once again that Larry Kudlow is wrong about everything, as Heather Cox Richardson reports. Here’s more on the lettuce — from Variety.
The new UK PM is Rishi Sunak. He’s the youngest PM ever, and also the “first British PM of colour and first Hindu” — but he’s a “Conservative.” Those who are not so enthusiastic about his innovative qualities note that he has become PM “without a single vote,” meaning — without a democratic election in which the general public could participate. A bit authoritarian, isn’t it? Thus, he’s another apt reflection of the current tension between old guard Saturn and avant garde Uranus, right?
Meanwhile…
Events in China went as expected, with President Xi Jinping securing a third term after stacking “the senior Chinese Communist party ranks with loyalists, showing China’s ever more powerful leader favors loyalty over merit – and wants rule insulated from criticism or questioning.” They were an apt reflection of the authoritarian cuts and advances of Saturn turning direct over the weekend.
Speaking of Saturn...and cuts, limits and reality checks, this afternoon US Attorney General Merrick Garland announced an important press conference about a national security issue involving Mars-in-Gemini double agents and China. It was scheduled for 1:30 PM — but that would not have been astro-logical!! Looking at the chart for 1:30 PM whilst tuning into C-Span, it didn’t look as imposing as it could have been. And what everyone saw on camera was an empty podium. The press conference didn’t start until the chart for the moment was hot — at 12:55 PM ET, when Pluto and Uranus hit the Ascendant and opposed the Midheaven, respectively Astrology is amazing!!
And that’s a wrap, ’cause it’s 1:30 AM ET. FYI, if you’d like a more constant stream of headlines reflecting planetary patterns, follow me on Twitter.

Monday 10/17/2022: Sneak Peek at Another Big Week; Saturn Turns Direct & Much, Much More
/in The ForecastAllllll righty then!
Here are the notable planetary patterns driving yet another big week of action:
Here’s how it goes:
And now, the news.
One prime example of the flow of all of this week’s planetary patterns is the 20th Communist Party Congress happening this week in Beijing. In what we think we know of President Xi’s horoscope, he is in an expansive period of development. Transiting Jupiter is expanding his prominent need to act to preserve emotional and homeland security in October and November, and in January, transiting Mars will station on his Jupiter. By the end of the week — on the day Saturn turns direct — it is expected that Xi will be declared Party Leader (and president of the country — again), putting him “on the brink of total power,” says The Guardian. But is Xi for real? With transiting Neptune square his double-talking Gemini Sun, his pitch may be pixie-dusted now, but when transiting Saturn enters Pisces in 2023 and squares his Sun in 2024, it may not be so rosy.
Here’s another one:
File this under: walking the talk…and putting their money where their mouth is:
File under the focus on Saturn — which refers to time, hearing and aging:
File under the reality check potential of last week’s trines among Sun-Venus and Saturn, piercing through the fog of last week’s Mars-Neptune square:
Here’s the 411 on personal consultations.
A new episode of Off the Charts: A Stellar Newscast — with my brilliant colleague and co-host Whitney Fishburn — will be recorded tonight and released on Friday.
Registration is still open for the Empowered Astrology Conference — happening on October 22 – 23 on Zoom. I’m teaching, along with six other honors graduates of Noel Tyl’s masters’ course for professional astrologers.
