I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 11/18/2013: Buzzing About Uncommon Women
/in The ForecastMoon buzzed into Gemini Sunday night at 7:07PM ET, looking for something to talk about, no doubt. Planetary patterns are fairly light this week; Thursday is looking like the most intense day, as that will be the day the Moon will make contact with the Planetary Pattern Everyone Should Be Talking About, a.k.a., the never-ending Uranus-Pluto square. Otherwise, harmonious aspects between assertive Mars and expansive Jupiter, and mental Mercury and dirt-revealing Pluto favor an easy flow of physical energy and investigative thinking this week.
Your Moon voids this week — natural rest periods when efforts to move forward in a straight line are more likely to be fraught with delays, flakes and unusual twists — are as follows: Tuesday 10:59AM ET until 6:23AM ET on Wednesday; Friday 2:11 AM ET until 6:56PM ET.
And now, the news. In light of Sunday’s illuminating Full Moon (refer to Friday’s forecast for details), combined with the witchy-bitchy/controversial attraction potential of last week’s challenge between Venus (women, love, social expression) and Uranus-Pluto, it’s interesting to note an escalating feud between the Cheney sisters making front-page headlines (Liz Cheney’s body language in the linked photo says it all). So far, Liz Cheney appears to be fulfilling the potential of her horoscope, discussed here in July as she was contemplating her current carpetbagging effort to win a Senate seat in Wyoming.
Also expressing the potential suggested by Venus-Uranus-Pluto: Doris Lessing, an uninhibited and unconventional Nobel prize-winning author, passed away at age 94. Here’s an excerpt from her Times obituary :
In other news, deadly tornadoes hit the Midwest. And TEPCO has begun the ambitious, risky process of removing spent fuel rods from Fukushima — and every time I write about this situation I find myself holding my breath as I type. Seems Fukushima makes news each time a planet makes contact with the Uranus-Pluto square; keep an eye out for more developments around Dec 22nd- 31st, when Mars and the Sun will both engage. That is looking to be a volatile period, as past Mars-Uranus-Pluto contacts would suggest. You’ll feel it more personally if you were born 8-12 days into Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn…or if you have a planet or angle at 8 to 12 degrees of those signs.
Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 11/15/2013 & the Weekend: Full Moon in Taurus
/in The ForecastEast Coasters may experience an unusual or slow start to the morning, given that the Aries Moon will be void until 9:49AM ET. Sleeping in late, pouring water over whole coffee beans or having to take a different route to the office are not uncommon occurrences during Moon voids. And that can be a very good thing.
After that, we’ve got one of my favorite planetary patterns: almost an entire weekend with the Moon in material comfort and security-seeking Taurus. Oh, the pleasures of good food, wine, music and snuggle time with that special Significant Other. Even if you don’t have an S.O., you can still bliss out at the spa. A dreamy connection to the Moon from nebulous Neptune stimulates the imagination, and an intense hookup between Venus and “resistance is futile” Pluto deepens emotional experiences in the late afternoon. A challenge between the Moon and mental Mercury in penetrating Scorpio suggests that what is said in the evening is not likely to be casual. All this intensity does come with a caveat: if you’re around jealous or vengeful types, watch your back, as we may see a few “crimes of passion” in the headlines. Especially since the Moon is waxing Full; thus, emotions are running high.
There’s no Moon void on Saturday to stop you from your Hannukah and other holiday gift shopping — or from checking out yard sales. If you’re looking for the former, I can’t think of a more practical or thoughtful gift than an astro-logical consultation…and of course, operators are standing by.
Other than a potential downer of a challenge between Moon and stern Saturn around 3:07PM ET on Saturday, exact planetary patterns are relatively easy and energetic. Sunday, we’ll see a Full Moon at 10:16AM ET which should shed light and/or force a release of something related to the New Moon agenda you set two weeks ago. You’ll have most of the day to process whatever that something is, given that the Moon goes void right on the Full Moon…and won’t enter Gemini, the next sign, until 7:07PM ET. Given the void, I have no expectations that I am going to find anything useful at the clothing swap I’ll be attending in Jersey, but it will be nice to release some winter stuff I haven’t worn in years.
The Sabian Symbols for Sunday’s Full Moon — at 26 degrees of Scorpio (Sun) and Taurus (Moon) are “Indians making camp” and “a Spaniard serenading his senorita.” Sabian Symbol guru Blain Bovee suggests these two images share a theme of “finding one’s new place out in the world,” perhaps with a “home is where the heart is” sentiment. Keep your eyes open for a campy sense of humor, too. I can’t help but notice that the Taurus Moon is conjoined with a Fixed Star called Algol; the keywords for Algol are “female passion and intensity” and “losing your head”…historically not always in pretty ways. Could make for some sensational headlines…
No Moon void on Monday means no sleeping in. Up and at ’em!
Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 11/14/2013: More RAMbunctious Aries; Venus Square Uranus
/in The ForecastMore proactive pioneering energy can be yours today, courtesy of the Moon continuing its sojourn through RAMbunctious Aries. Optimism and potential excess are suggested as the day progresses, as the “believe in miracles” Aries spirit is offered an extra dose by jolly Jupiter, exact at 3:57PM ET. Get it off your desk by that time, as the Moon then goes void with a sigh…not to enter the next sign, Taurus, until 9:49AM ET on Friday.
For those new to the forecast, Moon voids are natural rest periods, when the Moon’s usually driving energy isn’t going anywhere in particular. I encourage you to observe what happens during voids. See if you notice a lack of focus or unusual twists in your efforts to move forward in a straight line. Read more about Moon voids here.
At 8:13PM ET, Venus in Capricorn is challenged by rebel Uranus in Aries, suggesting the potential for sudden and/or unconventional attractions, a need for freedom in social expression, and/or breakthroughs in issues involving women, money and art. Watch the headlines. Yesterday, a tech company called Snapchat that offers a revolutionary, no-strings-attached channel for social expression rejected a zillion-dollar offer. An Andy Warhol painting brought in millions at an auction — and set a record high for paintings by that artist. Check out this bit about a breakthrough device designed to liberate babies who get stuck during childbirth. Look at this sudden upset in the world of aviation, as the Justice Dept. seems likely to approve a ginormous merger between American Airlines and US Air. And oh — look — Janet Yellen — a high-powered, pioneering woman in the world of finance — will be grilled by Congress today. Coincidence or conspiracy?

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 11/13/2013: RAMbunctious; Neptune Turns Direct
/in The ForecastOK, break time is over, as of 2:39AM ET, when the Moon zoomed into RAMbunctious Aries — thus ending a 17 hour “go with the flow” Moon void in dreamy Pisces. Aries is a sign that prefers to fall downstairs because it’s faster than walking; however, such impulses may not blend well with the mental fuzziness that may be lingering, given that Mercury turned direct late Sunday afternoon. As you zip through your to-do list today, take a moment to review whatever groundwork was done during Mercury’s retrograde period. You may discover a few errors and omissions. It’s OK to take it slow as we get back up to speed. Be alert for possible shake ups and power plays in the early evening ET, as the Moon makes its weekly clash with the never-ending Uranus-Pluto square.
Another planetary shift today is nebulous Neptune turning direct at 2 degrees of Pisces, thus ending a five month period of subtle focus on your own dreams and intuition for guidance. When a planet is retrograde, the suggestion is to turn inward on issues involving that planet, as opposed to looking outside the self. You’ll feel the effects of Neptune’s change of station more personally if you were born 2-3 days into Pisces, Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius…or if you have a planet or angle at 2 degrees of those signs. What kind of effects? Oh….perhaps you are feeling somewhat bewildered…or less inclined to be in Type A personality mode (if you are normally a Type A personality). You may find yourself needing to express your creativity — even if you have never thought of yourself as a “creative” person. You may also find being of service richly rewarding.
Meanwhile, we are likely to see some exciting, unconventional breakthroughs and disruptions in aesthetics, women and finance over the next couple of days. Why? Because Venus in Capricorn will be making exact contact with Uranus and Pluto. If you missed it, here’s the link to an earlier forecast about what we can expect under Venus-Uranus-Pluto alignments — starting in the sixth paragraph.
Since I followed my own astro-logical advice and made a dreamy, Mercury retrograde-inspired escape over the holiday weekend, I have not been terribly focused on the headlines. However, I did look at the chart for Typhoon Yolanda’s landfall in the Philippines: 20:45 UT on Nov 7 2013 in the town of Guiuan….and it’s what you’d expect to see. If you’re thinking the Uranus-Pluto square would be prominent in this chart, then you’ve actually been paying attention to this forecast for the past five — OMG — five years. Congratulations! You’d immediately notice the “make it happen” Capricorn Moon tightly conjunct ruthless Pluto, right on an angle…squared by disruptive Uranus at another angle. That suggests profound, sudden and total upheaval. You’d also see expansive Jupiter running wild in Cancer, a Water Sign, up front and center in the horoscope. That suggests the potential for something wet and wild, driven by a lot of hot air.
And speaking of Jupiter running wild, it may interest you to know that Jupiter refers to the liver and cholesterol, and that Jupiter has just turned retrograde, suggesting a review and rethinking of Jupiter issues. How fascinating to note the release of revised guidelines for managing and monitoring cholesterol and the use of statins, brought to you by the American Heart Association.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday-Tuesday 11/8-12/2013: A Holidaze Weekend
/in The ForecastIt’s a holiday weekend for many in the United States. Would you like it to start early? Well, you’re in luck, because the Capricorn Moon will be void of course from 2:39AM ET until 6:30PM ET, suggesting a time to chill or take care of tasks that are more routine than a brand new initiative. Maybe you have some closets to organize….or some structures that need review, given that Mercury is still retrograde. Maybe the structures are supporting your home, given that Jupiter just turned retrograde in Cancer. If you must punch the clock today, remember the Moon void advisory: it may feel like you are herding cats, as efforts to move forward in a straight line are subject to more than the usual delays, twists and flake outs. Go with the flow and remember that crises that crop up are often much ado about nothing.
Compassion, idealism, rarefied arts, healing and other beautiful escapes are also prominent this weekend, thanks to nebulous Neptune, loving Venus and mental Mercury all getting along famously. On Thursday I noted two relevant headlines: one about a fine night at Sotheby’s, and another about a aesthetic trend based on total fantasy in Venezuela.
Back to Friday. Once the Moon gets into gear at 6:30PM ET, it’ll be in humanitarian Aquarius. That could push your aesthetic experience into fringe territory. It’s also a fine aspect for channeling compassionate/service-oriented urges into a group or networking situation. Or just hang out with your friends.
Saturday can actually be pretty efficient in projects requiring discipline and measured physical energy. There’s no Moon void to tempt you with useless purchases, though I’d still avoid electronic gizmos until Mercury gets out of retrograde — unless necessity demands it. Beautiful intangibles would be a wonderful element of your Saturday night: music, art, film; healing and soul connections. A fine wine may also be involved.
Whatever happens after 1AM ET on Sunday will happen during yet another long void — from 12:57AM ET until 9:38PM ET. The aspect that starts off the void, however, is the First Quarter Moon, suggesting a challenge to the New Moon agenda set last week. You may need a long time-out to process whatever that challenge turns out to be. What was the Sabian Symbol of that New Moon? Ah, yes. Something to do with a gathering of elites having a ball. Look for that them in the headlines.
During the long Sunday void, Mercury will turn direct — at 4:12PM ET. Do take it easy on the roads, won’t you? A Moon void and Mercury changing direction on the same day is a recipe for problems caused by confused mental states, faulty communication and snafued transportation. Please chill and stay safe.
Moon will be in soulful Pisces on Monday (as of 9:38PM ET on Sunday) as Mercury and Neptune continue their rose-colored dance. It’s a good day for heartfelt ceremonies honoring those who have served in the Armed Forces are on deck today — as Veterans Day is observed in the United States. It’s a good day for heartfelt anything, frankly — planetary patterns suggest strong potential for empathy, art, music, healing, dreams and love, sweet love…and this rose-colored vibe carries over into Tuesday, too, which is another all-day void of course Moon, starting at 9:34AM ET until 2:39AM ET on Wednesday. Sounds like a reeealllly long holiday weekend to me….enjoy!
