I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Monday 10/12/2020: Sneak Peek at the Week; Mercury Turns Retrograde
/in The ForecastThe Leo Moon harmonizes with the Sun and Mars and then goes void at 10:30 AM ET — for the rest of the business day. Moon won’t get focused until after midnight on Tuesday, so seriously chill, chill, chill! Roll with the twists and flakes that may disrupt efforts to move forward in a straight line. Remember that crises that crop up during voids are often much ado about nothing. A Leo Moon void is vulnerable to fits of indignation and regal edicts. Watch how that plays out as introductions are made on the first day of the Senate confirmation hearings for SCOTUS nominee Amy Coney Barrett — in the middle of an election, no less. Note the ones refusing to wear a mask. That’s dysfunctional regal Leo entitlement.
Softening the drama somewhat — at least until 12:38 PM ET — is a cooperative contact between Mercury (how we need to think and communicate) and Venus (our values and social expression). There’s a need to see things in the best possible light — at least on a personal level. After that, be prepared for the gloves to come off, courtesy of a face-off between retrograde Mars in Aries and the Libra Sun exact on…
Here’s the 411 on Mercury retrograde:
Mercury turns retrograde at 11 degrees of Scorpio…re-entering Libra on October 27th. It turns direct on Election Day at 26 degrees of Libra. Mercury returns to 11 degrees Scorpio on November 19th, the day of Joe Biden’s next solar return (his birthday is November 20th). Note to astronerds with sophisticated software: if you are able to calculate solar returns, take a look at Biden’s solar return for 2019 and 2020. Notice how Mercury at 11 Scorpio is repeated in both charts — first as the ruler of the chart for 2019, and then as the actual Ascendant for 2020. What do you think, hmm?
Astrologer Robert Wilkinson (who wrote the book on Mercury retrograde) sees Mercury Rx in Scorpio as a “rethink in reform mode.” Tear down established beliefs; expose the rotting garbage and replace it with truth for the sake of consolidating power. “This is the verbal executioner, searching for inconsistencies in others,” which I take to mean we’ll see a lot of “Gotcha!” moments in the news. Wherever 26 Libra – 11 Scorpio falls in your horoscope is where you may be tearing down and rebuilding outworn modes of thinking.
And now, the news.
I carried the Sneak Peek at the Week through Monday because of how the patterns of October 16th – 20th activate P45’s horoscope (I’ve mentioned this period in prior forecasts as one to watch).
Astrologer Jessica Adams (who is not American and thus perhaps benefits from a certain distance) did predict back in January that P45 would not be re-elected and that he would “go down in October.” The Guardian was impressed enough to reference her prediction last week, in synch with the first Mercury-Uranus opposition (a potential for astrology making headlines). If Adams is proven correct, we will not be surprised — as we do see the potential for cuts and changes — and we most definitely will salute her astrological acumen.
Meanwhile….
On the first day of her Senate confirmation hearing, SCOTUS nominee Amy Coney Barrett wore a black mask, pearls and a dress in a bright shade of Handmaid’s Tale red (or so it appears on my computer screen). I briefly wondered if she’d consulted with confessed fashion troll Melania Trump — until I checked Barrett’s horoscope. She has Mars at 21 Aries and Mars is exactly conjunct her Mars today! The color of Mars is red, as is the color of Aries, the sign Mars rules. Barrett’s Mars is supercharged in her natal horoscope, in touch with her Mercury and Uranus — and possibly her Moon. Well OK, then — Mars is just on fire for her, not now — but RIGHT NOW!
Otherwise, Barrett is an Aquarius driven by Moon in Cancer, a people-pleasing combo that astrologer Noel Tyl felt was highly responsive to appreciation received (see Tyl’s 1000 page+ manual, Synthesis & Counseling in Astrology, page 98). Her birthday is the day after Chief Justice John G. Roberts, which means that both she and Roberts have transiting Uranus squaring their Suns. Translation: ego identity becomes disrupted or is disruptive; we see a need for independence no matter what. Barrett’s Sun-Uranus square is exact on November 19; Roberts has his on December 19. Watch those dates for surprises.
Guess who else has a hot horoscope with a disruptive Sun-Uranus pattern? Charles Koch — described as the driving force behind Barrett’s nomination. It’s not about health care or Roe v. Wade. It’s about corporations, as this WaPo op-ed argues. That would fit current planetary patterns: Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto at the verrrry end of Capricorn, suggesting last-ditch, hail Mary efforts at power and control. Here is Koch’s horoscope.
In other news….
Mercury at its station in Scorpio can feel like a blaring horn in matters of intricate mechanisms and channels. The NYT obliged with another installment in its examination of P45’s taxes. “The Swamp That Trump Built” explains how a businessman-president turned “favor-seeking in Washington to his family’s hotels and resorts — and earned millions as a gatekeeper for his own administration.” The kids were in on it, too — reports WaPo.
In Maine, postal workers demonstrated their deep focus by restoring a previously dismembered high-speed mail-sorting machine. That’s wicked good, Mainers!
Elsewhere, the diverse alliance potential of Saturday’s trine between Venus (women, values, social expression) and Uranus, combined with the potential power of Friday’s Mars-Pluto square was reflected…
That’s it for now. Back up your computers, kids!! If you’re voting this week, be patient with any delays and tech snafus, e.g., what’s happening in Georgia. Friday 10/9/2020 & the Weekend: Big, Bold & Dreamy
/in The ForecastTGIF!
The Moon is still in Cancer, driving the day with a focus on homeland security. The action may be dynamic — potentially explosive, as macho Mars squares Pluto at 9:19 AM ET. Remember there are positive applications of every planetary pattern — even if what we see in the headlines is often negative. There are no other planetary patterns until 8:39 PM ET, when the 3rd Quarter Moon is exact at 17 Cancer (the Moon) square the 17 Libra Sun. Things get big and dreamy around 11 PM ET, when Moon squares Jupiter (expansion) and trines Neptune (dreamy). It’s a fine night to feed your body and soul, enjoying the comforts of home — unless you are in the path of a potential hurricane. Sometimes Jupiter (big) with Neptune (water) is a challenge.

BACK UP YOUR COMPUTERS NOW as Mercury will be to a virtual standstill this week, turning retrograde on Tuesday the 13th. There will be no whingeing permitted, as Mercury retrogrades have plenty of plusses — and we will discuss them all in the next post. But if you need a sneak peek, here’s a post from a prior Mercury Rx in Scorpio.
If you’d like a few paragraphs of personal insight on how this Mercury retrograde will activate your horoscope, toss $44 into my Cosmic Tip Jar as a Joyful Random Expression of Appreciation. Please include your birth time, date and place if I don’t already have it. To schedule a personal consultation, here’s the 411. Astrologers are like dentists, doncha know. It’s good to check in with us every six months to a year.
And now, the news.
Recent headlines (i.e., those of the past 48 hours) are reflecting a lot of macho Mars square Pluto. Translation: me-me-me aggression/force in the extreme, likely building on seeds planted in mid-January, mid-March and July.
Add in the disruptive unconventional buzz and tech breakthrough potential of Wednesday’s Mercury-Uranus opposition, plus the big big bigness of Sunday’s Sun-Jupiter square and we get:
UPDATE: on Rod Rosenstein, whose 23 Capricorn Sun was also affected by Pluto and Saturn turning direct. Avid Readers will recall I noted that when he resigned back in 2019, there was a lot we didn’t know about Rosenstein that would come to light — and the revelations are in synch with Pluto’s meet-up with his Sun. Now we know how much of a driving force he was (along with Capricorn Jeff Sessions) in separating immigrant children from their parents “no matter how young.”
Meanwhile…
We anticipated a disruptive buzz during Wednesday’s VP candidate debate and we got one. A fly landed on Mike Pence’s head and stayed there for two minutes — which might mean this, according to people who Know Such Things. The other disruptive buzz was from the VP himself, whose constant interruptions of Senator Harris inspired this recap.
We don’t know yet if there will be another debate between VP Biden and P45 (though Biden will at the very least participate in a Town Hall on October 15th). P45’s behavior since returning to the White House has been even more off the rails than usual says this NYT piece. But if you missed the first debate, Randy Rainbow and Patti LuPone have recorded this musical homage.
Finally, some wise words penned by intuitive James Cinclair in a recent newsletter. Without using a single word of astrological jargon, he offers a coping strategy for the potential pitfalls of Mars retrograde in Aries — and cautions us on potential pitfalls we’ll be dealing with as old guard Saturn squares avant garde Uranus in 2021 and 2022. The italics are mine:

Monday 10/5/2020: Sneak Peek at the Week
/in The ForecastThe work week began with the Moon in Taurus, doing its best to preserve the status quo, keep calm & carry on. Moon went void at 2:41 PM ET, offering a chance to chill, tend to routine concerns and not make a mountain out of a molehill. Moon enters Gemini at 12:03 AM ET on…

In honor of Mercury’s upcoming retrograde, now is also the time to CHECK YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION STATUS . Voter registration deadlines in many states are happening this week — and in some states, the deadline to register is TONIGHT!! Request your absentee ballot, too — if that’s how you were planning to vote.
And now, the news.
Pluto turning direct on Sunday suggested news from underground, likely involving power and resources.
Mercury opposing Uranus suggests disruptive thoughts and communication:
Seth Meyers sums up the weekend in Washington in tonight’s episode of A Closer Look. Here’s a closer look at his horoscope. He’s a Capricorn, driven by the Moon in Aquarius. We anticipate a need to channel ambition in a way that is socially significant. His Venus-Jupiter conjunction in Aquarius suggests a generous humanitarian spirit, softening the potential dourness of his Mercury in Capricorn (a need to think in practical terms) opposing Saturn (gravitas). How he needs to think just has to get noticed, given Mercury and Saturn at the Aries Point. Looking at his Wikipedia bio, it seems Meyers has two sons — both of whom are Aries. Watch how he delivers his monologue (linked above). Intense, rapid-fire…what do you think his Ascendant is, hmm?
Meanwhile, in Miami tonight…
…and while Joe may be cookin’ with gas, I’m fizzling out! The Taurus Moon is still void…time to put this forecast to bed and then some. Friday 10/2/2020 & the Weekend: the Astrology of October; Full Moon Fallout
/in The ForecastOh, lordy, lordy, lordy…
As I said to the good folks at The Luminary Agency when they asked for commentary earlier this week on yesterday’s Full Moon:
Here’s a recap of the forecast for Friday through Sunday:
The rest of October goes like this:
Basically what we have here is a month-long version of what’s been happening on days when the Moon is in Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn. When the Moon is in these signs, it is challenged by the heavy planets in Aries (Mars) and Capricorn (Jupiter, Saturn & Pluto). In October, the Sun is in Libra. In July, the Sun was mostly in Cancer. Got that?
Use this weekend’s Taurus Moon to fulfill your need for material comfort and security, regardless of how wild the headlines will be. Snuggle with your sweetie, enjoy some food, wine and music. Wash your hands. Wear a mask.
No sleeping in on Monday, as the Taurus Moon will still be working on preserving the status quo and will not go void until the afternoon.
To find out how all the October Surprises are likely to manifest in your horoscope, here’s the 411 on consultations. If you’d like me to talk about astrology in a Zoom gathering of co-workers or members of your social club, do reach out. I’m psyched to report that I’ll be working on five — count ’em — five presentations this month — which makes me very happy indeed.
Or perhaps you just really enjoy these weekly forecasts and would like to let me know how much they are of value to you. In that case, Avid Reader Diane suggests you become a Faithful Monthly Subscriber. I promise you I will savor the glass of cabernet your monthly dose of appreciation will provide. But if that level of commitment terrifies you, a Joyful Random Expression of Appreciation will also make me feel totally loved — and I’ll apply your contribution to the Cosmic Tip Jar to the last ream of paper I bought from Staples, with gratitude.
And now, the news.
Last week, we had Saturn and Pluto at virtual standstills in Capricorn, suggesting the sound of a blaring horn in matters of authority, power, gas/oil, advance, structure, extremes and/or controls. Retrograde Mars was either fuming in warrior Aries, or behaving recklessly and still managing to slam itself into a brick wall, symbolized by Tuesday’s exact Mars-Saturn square. Cuts, squeezes and losses were expected. That square is the second of three in a series; the first was on August 24th; the third will be on January 13th. True, there was also a harmony between Venus (women) in drama queen Leo and Mars (desire; crusade) in Aries, arguably reflected by a new PSA for Get Your Booty to the Poll, presented by a group of strippers from Atlanta.
Until 1 AM ET today, stories reflecting these brick walls included:
In the wake of Thursday’s Full Moon, exact in Aries at 2:05 PM ET, headlines were off the charts — and lordy, there were tapes:
…that P45 and the First Lady have tested positive for Covid. And as of today, so have Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), RNC Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel, Hope Hicks and the president of Notre Dame, who all attended last week’s mask-free SCOTUS nomination, along with hundreds of mask-less others. Thus we are likely to hear of more cases in the coming days.
Hope Hicks has been on my mind since the Summer Solstice, as her 0 degree Aries Mars was eclipsed at that time, and was triggered by last week’s Equinox. Her Sun at 28 Libra is under pressure from transiting Saturn over the next few weeks, joined by Jupiter in December. Saturn-Sun patterns can suggest a potential health concern.
The announcement of P45’s diagnosis was tweeted at 12:54 AM ET in Washington D.C. What’s striking about the chart are the similarities it has to his 2020 solar return. In both charts we see a cluster of heavy planets on the Descendant, which can alert us to a potential health concern during that particular journey around the Sun.
As of this writing, Marine One has been on the South Lawn of the White House for an hour, waiting to fly P45 to Walter Reed Hospital, where he will remain for at least a few days.
In other news, President Jimmy Carter celebrated his 96th birthday yesterday.
Meanwhile, SNL writers must be scrambling to rewrite sketches for tomorrow night’s season premiere. Jim Carrey will play Joe Biden. Maya Rudolph will once again portray Kamala Harris. Carrey’s Sun is at 26 Capricorn; Saturn is several weeks away from its third and final conjunction to his Sun, as well as its one and only hit of his second Saturn return. These patterns suggest gravitas — aptly reflected by the role he’s now taken on — and the circumstances surrounding it. Here is Carrey’s horoscope.
I wish you a peaceful Moon in Taurus weekend — i.e., comfort and joy. Count your blessings, because counting one’s blessings is empowering. You instantly become a “have,” not a “have-not.” A weekend driven by Moon in Taurus understands.
Thank you for reading this forecast.
Pluto says hi. Resistance is futile.
Monday 9/28/2020: Sneak Peek at the Week; Saturn Direct; Full Moon in Aries
/in The Forecast“All my life I have found reassurance in the countryside; have found sorrows and anxieties benefitting from a walk through a meadow. Something to take my mind off its particular worry, as refreshing and restoring as a cool drink on a hot day.” ~C.R.Milne
(That’s a quote from the real Christopher Robin, the son of A.A. Milne, author of Winnie-the-Pooh.)
You could have spent time wandering through a meadow this morning, as the Aquarius Moon was void between 3:18 AM ET and 11:34 AM ET. If you are new to this forecast, here’s a link to the 411 on Moon voids.
Once the Moon enters Pisces, the focus shifts to a need for ideals and impressions; empathy and yearnings of the soul. A Pisces Moon is excellent for a day of at-one-ment, as Pisces understands that separation is an illusion. We are all one. Unions are favored all day and night, reflecting a rare harmony between Mars (the need for action; yang) and Venus (who, what and how we need to love), exact at 9:02 PM ET. Mars is in Aries (still retrograde); Venus is in Leo. Their trine suggests fiery drama, improvised — and in flow.
The rest of the week goes like this:
Given current breaking news (about P45’s taxes), it’s interesting to see Venus (money; values) literally in the face of the public as it sits on the Descendant of this chart. Venus rules the 3rd and 8th houses here — documents and debts! The surge of energy required to “make the unmanageable manageable” is suggested by Mars squaring Pluto. A stroke of genius is suggested by Mercury’s opposition to Uranus; Mercury is in the 8th house, digging for information in Scorpio! Also of note: it’s not just Saturn demanding our focus in this chart. Pluto is also about to turn direct (on Sunday), highlighting news from underground, extremes of power and resources. The action will unfold as the crusading Aries Moon challenges three planets in Establishment Capricorn (described below, as we continue with the day-by-day forecast):
And now, the news.
Based on the chart for last week’s Autumnal Equinox (set in Washington DC), we anticipated a wild ride. Remember that the Ascendant was 0 degrees of Scorpio? Guess where Mercury (information) was yesterday? 0 degrees Scorpio — as of 3:41 AM ET. As citizens of the United States we would anticipate news of ruthless depth, and substance, and right around suppertime, the NYT dropped its ruthlessly deep bombshell analysis of 18 years of tax returns that P45 didn’t want the public to see. If you’re not an NYT subscriber, here’s Heather Cox Richardson’s summary — but if you’re a fan of fine writing, the NYT story is one to be savored (perhaps with a glass of fine wine), e.g.:
Bottom line: the tax returns suggest he’s a loser and a fraud. He paid $750 in federal income taxes in 2016 and 2017. Most other years, he paid $0. He is personally in debt to the tune of over $400 million — but to whom? Meanwhile, WaPo reported on P45’s thwarted efforts to seize control of his father’s estate (and there are tapes).
Where do we see the potential for this data dump in P45’s horoscope? As long as he is the White House Occupant, what happens in his life affects the nation, so here we go. The timing is amazingly in sync with patterns, as always. Avid Readers may recall what was going on a few weeks ago, when Mary L. Trump’s secretly recorded conversations with her aunt, Maryanne Trump Barry, were published in WaPo. Transiting Mars (ruler of P45’s 9th house) squared Venus (ruler of his Midheaven and his 3rd House) for the first of three in a series. We see a potential attack (Mars) in matters of publishing (9th house), impacting his professional status, reputation and mindset, siblings (MC, 3rd house). The second square happened around 3 AM ET this morning. Plus, on this second hit, transiting Saturn (debt, karma) AND Pluto (breakdown, power, transformation) are sitting closerthantthis to their third oppositions to Venus. Getting real in the extreme about values and money?
Not only that, but on September 25th (perhaps when the NYT reached out to the Trump Organization for comment), transiting Uranus squared his Pluto for the second of three hits. Uranus-Pluto patterns are nearly always disruptive. Looking ahead, we anticipate the following developments:
In other news…
As anticipated, P45 nominated Amy Coney Barrett to grab Ruth Bader Ginsburg‘s seat on the Supreme Court. Senate Majority Leader McConnell fully intends to ram her confirmation through the Senate — over and above all other priorities. Isn’t it interesting how often we’re seeing the words “battering ram” or simply “ram” as warrior Mars travels through Aries, sign of the Ram?
Isn’t it also interesting that Barrett and Senators Ted Cruz and Amy Klobuchar all have planets at the Aries Point, which was activated last week by the Sun’s ingress into Libra. For those who may be exhausted and disheartened by the never-ending scandalous destruction of all normal rules of engagement, watch Senator Klobuchar respond to Senator Cruz’s snark re: objections to moving full speed ahead on Barrett’s confirmation hearing. On full display is Klobuchar‘s eloquently informed and intense Sun-Moon in Gemini. Her Mars is in Aries; she’ll fight fiercely for the underdog. Transiting Jupiter is right on her Saturn, adding to her focus and need to be righter than right. It’s no surprise that the video went viral and that WaPo columnist Jennifer Rubin named Klobuchar “Distinguished Pol of the Week.”
Meanwhile, Judge Barrett was officially nominated on Saturday at 5:06 PM ET, just as the Aquarius Moon met up with her 7 degree Aquarius Sun. She also has Mars in Aries, as part of a Grand Cross with Moon in Cancer, Mercury in Capricorn and Jupiter in Libra. All four planets are under pressure from transiting Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto (in Capricorn) and Mars. Transiting Uranus is activating her Sun, challenging her ego identity and/or presenting opportunities for her to be herself without compromise. She may surprise a few people between now and early 2021. We don’t have a birth time, but the horoscope is obviously hot — or she wouldn’t be in the headlines.
As for the ultimate success of her confirmation hearing, being rammed through anything during a Mars retrograde is ill-advised. Those doing the ramming may have cause for second thoughts. But as of yesterday, the Senate had the votes to proceed, as John Oliver explains in yesterday’s Last Week Tonight
Meanwhile…
A collection of headlines about Mars-Saturn blocks, for better or worse:
In the maddening swirl of this turbo-charged news cycle, important stories can fade away in a millisecond. Last week, The Atlantic made waves when it moved up the publication date of a story outlining exactly how P45 could execute a plan whereby he refuses to concede, keeping him in the White House — far away from prosecutors. The Atlantic has done its homework in The Election That Could Break America.
Elsewhere…
Venus trine Mars suggests fiery desire; Saturn at its station puts elders and reality in focus. Thus, “It’s a myth that women don’t want sex as they age, study finds, ” whereas abortion is a hot topic in Argentina. Also: “Romance meets the real world” in the book, Real Men Knit.
Closing — as always — with something to brighten your day — this time from the Good News Network.
What’s going on in your horoscope? If you have planets in late Aries, Cancer, Libra and/or Capricorn, I expect you’ll be quite busy between now and mid-January. In 2021, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius will have their turn in the hot seat. Pisces, Sagittarius, Gemini and Virgos born two thirds of the way through their signs may be off in search of a dream. Here’s the 411 on personal consultations.
