I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Monday 8/22/2022: Sneak Peek at the Week; Uranus Retrograde, New Moon in Virgo & Much More
/in The ForecastAlllll righty then!
First, if you enjoy your planetary insights via video, you can find my weekly five-minute Whether Gal forecast posted (usually) on Sunday night, as a segment in Avid Reader Alison’s cool podcast, 2022: The Year of Love. Sign up here and you’ll receive an email when it posts. I’m having fun using actual newspapers as props as a way of demonstrating the astonishing synchronicity of planetary patterns and the news. If you find it informative and entertaining, please share with your friends!
Second, Episode 14 of Off the Charts: A Stellar Newscast — with co-host Whitney Fishburn will post this Friday. You can sign up for alerts here. A new episode is posted every other Friday.
Third, Avid Reader Stephanie wanted to know if I would offer a special report for this long period (seven months!) of Mars in Gemini. And since she asked, I said, “Sure!” So if you’d like a few paragraphs of personal insights on how your horoscope is likely to receive the transit of Mars in Gemini (including its two and half month retrograde, which starts in October), toss $52 into my Cosmic Tip Jar as a Joyful Random Appreciation. Please email me your birth data if I don’t already have it — date, time and place of birth.
There are a lot of planetary patterns up above that will be reflected in the action here on Earth over the next seven days. That’s the premise of astrology: planetary patterns – for some reason – reflect patterns in life development. Astrologers interpret planetary patterns as if they were a symbolic language that accurately describes past, present and future experiences through space and time. Got that? Astrology is a language. I don’t why it’s so accurate – but experience proves that it is.
This week we’ve got:
Here’s how it goes:
Here is the New Moon chart, set in Washington, D.C.:
Observations:
You are more personally affected by this New Moon if you have planets or angles around 4 degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. Refer back to the New Moon of February 2020 — the forecast is here. That New Moon was at 5 Pisces — opposing this New Moon in Virgo.
Back to the forecast:
Here’s Beth Owl’s Daughter’s take on this week’s potential, reflected in her always-in-sync Tarot Card of the Week.
And now, the news.
Told ya it would be a big week for President Biden, as Mars opposed his eclipsed Sun-Venus conjunction at 27-28 Scorpio, suggesting an accelerated advance or a curtain falling. Turned out to be the former, as evidenced by him signing the weirdly-named Inflation Reduction Act into law, with Mercury trine Uranus (innovation) and Venus trine Jupiter (good times for all). Barack Obama aptly called it a BFD, and Heather Cox Richardson explains what’s in it for you. And maybe it’s not so weirdly-named, given that Jupiter (inflation) is retrograde. Hmm. It’s worth noting that transiting Pluto is on the Midheaven of the chart for the Biden-Harris inauguration, and that Pluto pattern prompted many astrologers to opine that the Biden-Harris Administration was likely to be transformational — and perhaps empowering.
That “good times for all” trine between Venus and Jupiter curiously backfired for Sanna Marin, prime minister of Finland (the world’s happiest country). When a video of her dancing at a private party was leaked on social media, she became “embroiled in a scandal,” with some party-poopers reflecting the weekend’s delusional Mercury-Neptune opposition by accusing Marin of taking drugs. She took a drug test. No drugs — but meanwhile, Finnish women rallied in support by posting videos of themselves being girls who just wanna have fun.
OK, this Venus (brides, fashion) – Jupiter (expansion, abundance) story really is fun:
The Venus-Jupiter trine seemed apt for a WaPo story about how lipstick and lingerie sales may be used to predict the economy.
And how about this Jupiter love fest — as in — check out these photos of Jupiter, courtesy of the James Webb telescope!
But back to the Mercury-Neptune opposition, which suggests fraud & spirits of all kinds:
Mercury-Neptune also suggests music, and how cool was it to see Willie Nelson on the cover of the NYT Sunday Magazine?
But back to Mercury-Neptune patterns and the potential for delusion. Add in the fact that Mars just entered Gemini, and perhaps you may recall I expected that Mars (war, aggression) in Gemini (words) was likely to be reflected in stories about a war on words. Check out this other story from the NYT Sunday Magazine:
“‘The Arizona Republican Party’s Anti-Democracy Experiment’ First, it turned against the establishment. Now it has set its sights on democracy — the principles, the process and even the word itself.” Astrology. Is. AMAZING.
It wasn’t such a great week for Rep. Liz Cheney, who lost the Republican primary to a woman lawyer named Harriet Hageman, who immediately lied on the TeeVee, telling Fox “News” that Cheney didn’t concede. Good thing Cheney recorded the concession voicemail she left for her opponent, so she could play it for Hageman and anyone else who needed to hear it. Good grief. We do have a timed horoscope for Cheney, and it’s clear she’ll continue to command our attention in 2023.
With Uranus preparing to turn retrograde, it’s not surprising that Russia’s wretched war on Ukraine now includes concern that an attack might damage a Russian-held nuclear plant in Ukraine. Note that in what we believe of Vladimir Putin’s horoscope, transiting Uranus is activating his North Node, and right this minute, transiting Mars is one degree away from his Gemini Moon. We see potential for sudden change, provocation and daring action going public. Toss in Sunday’s Mercury-Neptune opposition, and note that a“Russian Rebel Group Takes Credit for Murder of Daughter of Putin’s ‘Spiritual Guide’”
Other Uranian shocks to the system includes one that reflects its upcoming contact with Venus (money & values), and arguably last week’s Venus-Jupiter trine, too. It was “an eye-popping $1.6 billion donation to a right-wing nonprofit organized in May 2020,” reports Heather Cox Richardson. “This is the largest known single donation made to a political influence organization,” and here’s more on that story, along with other surprising shifts that happened today, all in HCR’s latest Letter from an American.
I leave you with a double-feature, as one must do with Mars in two-for-one Gemini. Randy Rainbow just released a new song parody (his version of “Yesterday”)...which led me to discover another one (“Thoughts & Prayers”) that was released earlier this month. Rainbow’s horoscope provides fascinating astro-logic regarding his unique take on All Things Political.
Here’s the 411 on personal consultations.
I’m also available to speak about astrology to your company, social club or any group of friends. Last week I did a Zoom consultation for a book club. This week I received two invitations to present my groovy PowerPoint about the astonishing synchronicity of planetary patterns and the news. I love love love talking about astrology to anyone and everyone — from total newbies to advanced professionals. If you think that sounds like fun, let’s talk!

Monday 8/15/2022: Sneak Peak at the Week: Fiery Fun with Venus & Jupiter; Mars Enters Gemini
/in The ForecastAlll-righty then!
After Monday, it’s a relatively light week in the cosmic sandbox — and we deserve it. Planetary highlights include:
For a five-minute video sneak peek at this written sneak peek at the week, have the Whether Forecast delivered via email. Thrilled that Avid Reader Alison invited me to create this segment as part of her podcast, 2022: The Year of Love.
Here’s how it goes:
A pause, while we discuss what Mars entering Gemini suggests. The good news is that Mars functions more effectively in Gemini than in Taurus – so we can expect things to move faster than they have over the past two and a half months — at least while Mars is direct in motion. Roadblocks may be released – and we see the potential for multitasking and double-talking to a fault. Gemini is a natural-born communicator and salesperson. With Mars in Gemini, we can expect notable action and assertion in communication and sales. Here’s an example: Mars refers to war; Gemini refers to words. Mars in Gemini increases the potential of a war of words – or perhaps even a war on words.
Mars will be in Gemini for seven months – three times longer than its recent travels through Taurus (or any other sign since 2021). That’s because Mars will turn retrograde at the end of October won’t move forward until mid-January. Avid Readers know that when a planet goes retrograde, it offers an opportunity to turn inward and review matters related to that planet and sign. My sense is that this long journey of Mars in Gemini will challenge us all to review how honest we are about walking our talk. I’ll have more to say about that as we get closer to October and can begin to prepare.
Get some rest over the weekend; next week offers much more action, including the Sun entering Virgo on Monday; Uranus — planet of disruption — turning retrograde on Wednesday; Venus challenged by Saturn and Uranus next weekend; and a taste of Mars in Gemini as it squares the Virgo Sun on Saturday.
And now, the news.
Headlines reflecting the weekend’s heavy Sun-Saturn opposition, amplified by the extreme force of Mars trine Pluto include:
Meanwhile…
Finally — so we can end on something lighter than stories of cuts and losses….
Horary is a specialized branch of astrology that uses astrology as if it was a deck of Tarot cards. I am a certified horary astrologer, in case you did not know. If you have a burning question and you are willing to consider what astrology has to say about it, you can pose your query to an astrologer. She will calculate a chart for the moment she receives and understands your question, and within that chart, an answer may be found. If the planet representing the person asking the question is opposed by the planet representing the matter being asked about, the message is, “if you continue along this path and acquire the thing/person you are asking about, you will regret it.”
In the spirit of yesterday’s Sun-Saturn opposition, I leave you with the Washington Post’s compilation of “Most Regretted Baby Names — and More!”

The recap of Sun-Saturn news may be heavy now,
but this week’s Venus-Jupiter trine offers sweet indulgence later.
Friday 8/12/2022 & The Weekend: Heavy Karma & A Podcast That’s Off the Charts!
/in The ForecastTGIF!
And what a week it was, but you were prepared, right? Because astrology is amazing!
Here’s a recap of the forecast for the weekend:
SATURDAY: Moon has been Pisces since Friday afternoon, driving most of the weekend with a need for sensitivity and empathy, so we can process this week’s happenings.
No sleeping in on MONDAY. The Aries Moon may have you bouncing out of bed, buoyed by a meet-up with Jupiter at 6:59 AM ET.
And now, the news.
But first…for a review of why this week was so action-packed, check out Episode 13 of “Off the Charts: A Stellar Newscast,” which my colleague Whitney Fishburn and I released earlier today. Whitney’s show notes are a must-read, and you can sign up to have it delivered to your inbox when new episodes are posted — every other Friday. We’re having so much fun with this, and our audience is growing! Thank you so much for your comments, questions and your support! And oh — if you do listen Episode 13, the plane I was expecting to fall out of the sky actually did — and here it is.
And now, really the news…
…which is what was expected, right? The big news involves people whose horoscopes are being triggered by Mars (action, aggression) as it travels through the late degrees of Taurus, triggering the lunar eclipses of May 16th and last November 19th. Meanwhile, the grand, glorious Leo Sun (leaders) was zapped by the lightning bolt potential of Uranus on Thursday’s Full Moon…and is now picking up on the gravitas of Sunday’s opposition with Saturn.
In other news, reflecting these bits from Monday’s forecast:
Meanwhile…

Monday 8/8/2022: Sneak Peek at the Week; Full Moon in Aquarius; Mars on the March & More
/in The ForecastAlllll-righty then!
This week is HOT — and here are the highlights:
In case you haven’t heard, a five-minute video sneak peek of this written Sneak Peek at the Week is posted on Sunday. It’s called the Whether Forecast, and it’s a segment in Avid Reader Alison’s nifty podcast, 2022: The Year of Love. Have it delivered to your inbox here.
Here’s how the week goes:
Here is what that looks like, set in Washington, D.C.:
Observations:
Back to the forecast for the week:
Here’s how all this stacks up in Beth Owl’s Daughter’s always-in-sync Tarot Card of the Week. “The Razor’s Edge” are apt words for the current tug of war between Saturn (old guard) and Uranus (avant garde) as they prepare for their final square off in October!
And now, the news.
Much of what happened last week was discussed in the recording of Episode 14 of “Off the Charts: A Stellar Newscast,” which my colleague Whitney Fishburn and I recorded this afternoon. It will be released on Friday (we drop a new episode every two weeks), and if you don’t want to miss it, sign up here to have it delivered to your emailbox. We also talked about what we expect to happen this week, and some of it is happening right now.
Exhibit A: transiting Mars is working like clockwork as it activates the former guy’s eclipsed 24 Taurus Midheaven. Mars is at 23 Taurus today and will be exact on his 24 Taurus MC on August 10th. Transiting Mars squares his Mars on August 14th and his 29 Leo Ascendant on August 20th. Avid Readers were alerted to the potential for significant provocation at this time, such as:
Exhibit B: transiting Mars also squared Breonna Taylor’s natal Mars and opposed her natal Pluto. Her “provocation” came in the form of federal charges against the four police officers who raided her home and killed her. See? A transit involving Mars and/or Pluto doesn’t have to be “bad.” And the horoscope lives forever, doncha’ know — and here’s my article on that subject from 2016. Heather Cox Richardson has all the details explaining why these federal charges are so important, given that Kentucky state authorities failed to hold the officers accountable.
Exhibit C: transiting Mars opposed U.S Attorney General Merrick Garland’s 21 Scorpio Sun last week and is squaring his 23 Leo Pluto today. Thanks to Exhibits A and B, we can C how transiting Mars translated into a call to action!
Exhibit D: Alex Jones, whose horoscope I’d never looked at until a few days ago, has Mercury in Pisces square Neptune in Sagittarius. That would be a wonderful placement for an actor or visionary artist, but in the hands of a serial liar and conspiracy theorist, it’s downright dangerous. Jones has Mars at 21 Taurus squaring his oh-so-grand Sun-Jupiter conjunction at 22-24 Aquarius, and transiting Saturn is putting a hard reality check on those three planets. His Moon might be in Libra (we don’t have a birth time) and could be conjunct Uranus and square his natal Venus, which is retrograde in Capricorn. Transiting Pluto is engaged with that trio. Point is, the horoscope is hot — which is why he was in court last week, where he learned to his surprise that his own attorney had accidentally sent two years worth of phone records to the prosecuting attorney!!!! Please let Heather Cox Richardson fill you in on even more stunning details.
Exhibit E: Hungarian PM “Viktor Orban turns Texas conference (CPAC) into far-right love-in.” Orban has a stubbornly militant t-square among Mars, Saturn and Mercury — with all three planets activated by transiting Mars. It’s worth noting that one of his longstanding advisors — Zsuzsa Hegeddus — resigned at the end of July, “in protest at ‘a pure Nazi speech’ the Hungarian prime minister gave that was ‘worthy of Goebbels,‘” reports The Guardian.
In other news…
Chuck Schumer’s horoscope is basking in the empowering potential of transiting Pluto on his Ascendant, sweetened by transiting Venus on his Descendant. Yesterday, after the Senate pulled an all-nighter, Democrats pushed and shoved their way into a 50-50 vote on the Inflation Reduction Act, and — as mentioned earlier — VP Kamala Harris — also impacted by the Venus-Pluto opposition — cast the tie-breaking vote. What’s in it for you? An extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies for the next three years, for one. A $35 dollar per month insulin cap for those on Medicare — but not for everyone else, thanks to Republicans who voted it down. This sweeping bill includes investment in combating climate change, renewable energy and raising funds through mandatory taxation of billion-dollar corporations. Read all about it here — and mourn the fact that initiatives that would have made life easier for women and families ended up on the cutting room floor.
Yes, this past week was just filled with surprises and upsets:
Whew!
Is your horoscope hot right now? What do all these planetary patterns mean for you? Here’s the 411 on personal consultations. We will have a fine discussion together.
Thank you for reading this forecast.
Monday 8/1/2022: Sneak Peek at the Week; Dreamy Vision and Militant Discipline; Mercury Enters Virgo
/in The ForecastAllll righty then!
First, two announcements — in case you haven’t heard. Did you know that every Sunday you can catch a five-minute video sneak peek at the week, a.k.a. the Whether Forecast? Avid Reader Alison invited me to create this segment, which is part of her podcast, 2022: The Year of Love. You can sign up to receive an alert as soon as her fascinating interviews (with experts who help people live life with greater consciousness) are posted, as well as my weekly Whether Forecasts. Here is the link.
And did you know that I’ve joined forces with Avid Reader Whitney on another podcast collaboration: “Off the Charts: A Stellar Newscast.” We post new episodes every other Friday, and you can sign up to receive an alert for that, too. Meanwhile, we are thrilled, thrilled, thrilled by the support we’ve received from Avid Readers who are now Avid Listeners! THANK YOU!
Patterns driving the action this week include:
Here’s how it goes:
The action of Mars with Saturn and Uranus, combined with the potential idealism of Venus with Neptune, are aptly reflected in Beth Owl’s Daughter’s Tarot Card of the Week. Onward!
And now, the news.
Lots of daring action to report. Remember what was written for SUNDAY?
One leader feeling a confidence boost was President Biden. Just before the Mars-Uranus conjunction was exact at 7:53 PM ET on Monday, the White House announced that Biden would be making a statement — at 7:30 PM ET — that “Ayman al-Zawahiri: al-Qaida leader was killed in US drone strike in Afghanistan.” The “precision strike” happened late Saturday, when the Moon was in Virgo — and obviously less than 24 hours before that Sun-Jupiter trine. Astrology. Is. Amazing.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine, a targeted missile strike killed Olexii Vadaturksy. He was a founder of Nibulon grain transportation company, “a high-tech giant which made possible to feed hundreds of millions of people worldwide,” says my Twitter feed. News of his death was described as “earth shaking.”
Also earth shaking — if there was a chance the Senate would pass it, too: Heather Cox Richardson tells us that the House passed a measure to ban assault weapons. She also explains what’s in the Inflation Reduction Act — this is the bill addressing climate change, tax loopholes and prescription drug prices — suddenly announced by Senators Chuck Schumer and Joe Manchin last week. All eyes are now on Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-Allegedly) as we wonder if her stubbornly volatile t-square among Moon, Saturn and Uranus will go along with the rest of the group. She carries within her the tension between the old guard vs. the avant-garde, and we can appreciate why it’s seemingly so hard for her to commit to moving in one clear direction.
In other news…
A credible birth time for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was published in a biography last year. The 3:10 PM time gives her a 27 Leo Ascendant, which is not too far off from a proposed rectified time of 2:45 PM ET. Speaker Pelosi is a pioneering Aries (i.e., the FIRST), driven by an indomitable Scorpio Moon (needs to consolidate knowledge for the sake of power and control). That Scorpio Moon is 18 degrees and it opposes three planets in Taurus, plus her Midheaven. What that means is that those Taurus placements and her 18 Scorpio Moon are activated by this week’s Mars-Uranus-North Node conjunction at….18 Taurus. Got that? She can’t help but respond to the prompt from Mars-Uranus to do something potentially innovative, disruptive and/or daring. And one thing she’s doing — and it’s all over the news — is that she’s on a trip to Asia, with a possible stop in Taiwan. Why would she want to go to Taiwan? The general public is not likely to be privy to the agenda of a woman driven by a mum’s-the-word Scorpio Moon. However, just the notion that she might visit Taiwan has prompted a provoked China to assert that “its military won’t sit idly by” if Pelosi does., to which the US replied, “Oh China, don’t get your knickers in a twist.” Astrology. Is. AMAZING….and we would be wise to keep an eye on Speaker Pelosi as her horoscope continues to be activated by transiting Mars as it travels through the back half of Taurus, especially toward the end of next week.
Mars-Uranus in Taurus suggests stories of unconventional heroes, the science part of “science-fiction,” and general disruptions. Here is a sampling
“An Oklahoma city’s first openly gay mayor resigned. Then came the fallout.”
Combine this with the jackpot potential of Sunday’s Sun-Jupiter trine:
Man wins another huge lottery prize at the same location where he won $1 million
You will appreciate this item more than most if you listened to “‘No poop July’ and other bull crap in the news” — a.k.a Episode 12 of “Off the Charts: A Stellar Newscast.” We anticipated news stories reflecting a rapid unclogging, as it were, and the news always delivers:
Finally, this cool item from last week:
Peaceful nations stamping astrological symbols on their currency. How d’ya like that?
If you’re wondering what all of these astrological patterns suggest for your own unique horoscope, here’s the 411 on personal consultations.
Thank you for reading this forecast.
