THE
I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 3/12/2014
/in The ForecastWith the Moon now in regal, playful Leo, spirits are likely lighter than yesterday. An indulgent connection to the Moon from Venus at 9:57AM ET illuminates needs for love and affection. An easy connection to Moon from unconventional Uranus suggests at 9PM ET suggests you may find both in the company of friends….or unconventional types who could become friends. Technogeeks welcome.
The next couple of days are especially good for organizing structures, building stability and planning strategy. Meanwhile, let the record show that the whereabouts of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 remain a baffling, bewildering mystery, as the chart for that flight’s departure at 12:21AM on March 8th in Kuala Lumpur — with nebulous Neptune exactly on the IC (foundation) and squaring the Ascendant (personal projection) — would suggest. Quicksand and fog.
When I first looked at the chart, I immediately noted the ruler is Jupiter in Cancer (very good), and it is in the 8th house (not so good). This suggests death (at worst), danger, transformation — or at the very least, locked away — perhaps being possessed by someone else. The latter possibility feels plausible, given the strength of Jupiter in Cancer. Some strong signatures of obsession are in this chart, as well as purposeful pixie dust and/or delusion, harshness, extreme effort and/or physical force. The 21st may be a significant date, as well as the weekend, when the Moon enters Virgo and makes contact with many key planets in the chart, especially the unaspected Pisces Sun. We shall see. Fingers crossed…
Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 3/11/2014: Heavy Light
/in The ForecastMoon continues its sojourn through nurturing Cancer, seeking to fulfill its need for emotional security and sometimes being a little loony about its strategy — as we shall see at approximately 7:30AM ET. The heavy mental vibe you may feel today — along with many of those depressing headlines — is here courtesy of a 2:14AM ET exact square between Mercury (mind, communication, travel) and controlling Saturn in nitty-gritty karma cop Scorpio. Would you like fries with that?
See yesterday’s forecast for who’s most likely to be affected by the Mercury-Saturn square, and take heart. There’s a smooth flow of energy available in the morning hours, up until around 1PM ET. Get your important stuff done then. At 3:50PM ET the Moon goes void of course on a combative aspect with Mars. Positive potential: a burst of energy, constructively applied. Negative potential: rash behavior that wounds sensitive souls and/or turns a molehill of a problem into a mountain during the Moon void, which does not end until 10:09PM ET. That’s when the Sun comes out — so to speak — as the Moon enters royal Leo, looking for love and applause.
NYT columnist Gail Collins was tuned in early to the heavy news potential of Mercury square Saturn, and she did her best to put her usual chipper spin on the by-now typical headlines reflecting this planetary cycle. Meanwhile, tons of hardcore facts abound in Congress even as I type. Did you know that 28 members of Congress are in the middle of a all-night-long speech-a-thon about the reality of climate change? The Guardian is live-blogging it here….but not the New York Times, which is rather depressing. But as heavy as the topic may be, it does suggest evidence of the “wake-up calls” we can expect as the never-ending Uranus-Pluto square makes another exact hit in April…
And now, just ’cause…and as a public service…a news item about a probable connection between your gut and disease. Food for thought — on a day with Moon in nurturing Cancer — why not?
Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 3/10/2014: Mercury Square Saturn — Part 3; Sneak Peek at the Week
/in The ForecastGood Morning!
Off to a dynamic start of the work week perhaps, as the Moon in proactive, home/emotional security-seeking Cancer joins up with optimistic Jupiter at 6:37am ET…and then faces a potential jolt, revelation or power play when it makes contact with the disruptive Uranus-Pluto square at 8:04AM ET and 12:16PM ET.
If you are not looking for a battle or a controversy, go about your business in afternoon (ET). If a serious conversation about hard, cold facts is what you seek, a challenge between mental Mercury and stern Saturn colors the day and is exact at 2:14AM ET Tuesday. This concludes a cycle that began on January 25th and was hit for a second time on February 19th. If you have a planet or angle around 23 degrees of Scorpio, Taurus, Aquarius or Leo, you’ll be more personally affected. Here’s a recap of headlines reflecting mind control and other heavy thoughts from last month; look for similar themes today.
Yea verily, today’s planetary patterns seem to be an apt backdrop for Edward Snowden’s virtual interview at SXSW; fascinating to note that his talk at 11AM CT has the Mercury-Saturn square right on the Ascendant (an angle) of the chart for 11AM CT in Austin, TX & the Moon in sensitive Cancer will be minutes away from an exact opposition from ruthless, corporate, corruption-exposing Pluto in Capricorn. You can watch the interview here. Equally fascinating: when Julian Assange spoke at SXSW on Saturday at 11AMCT, Mercury and Saturn were on the Midheaven (another angle of the chart). Coincidence or conspiracy?
The rest of the work week is relatively free of disruptive patterns, save the usual ongoing upheavals suggested by the never-ending Uranus-Pluto square, and the potential reckless aggression suggested by Mars being retrograde. Exact patterns later this week include an easy connection between the Sun and stern Saturn on Thursday. This is useful for strategic planning, which is favored by the retrograde motion of action-oriented Mars.
Speaking of horoscopes for scheduled events (e.g. the speeches by Assange and Snowden noted above), the horoscope for the departure of the Malaysia Airlines plane (12:41 AM 3/8/2014 in Kuala Lumpur) that vanished shortly after take-off has nebulous Neptune squaring Moon, with both planets exactly on angles of the horoscope. This is a potentially bewildering and insecure aspect. Other planetary patterns are also troubling.
Your Moon voids for the week: Tuesday 3:50PM ET – 10:09PM ET; Friday 3:24AM – 10:17AM ET. Chill out during those natural rest periods if you can; avoid scheduling meetings and events you wish to be of consequence.
Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 3/7/2014 & the Weekend: Buzz, Buzz, Buzz
/in The ForecastNote your dreams upon waking, as nebulous Neptune makes contact with the Gemini Moon at 8:11AM ET. The rose-colored fog lifts after your first cup of caffeine, and you can spend the whole day buzzing around, gathering information and making innovative connections. Moon in Gemini does like to talk — in the most clever and entertaining ways. The innovative potential is exact at 7PM ET, when the Moon makes a supportive connection to rebel Uranus. Sounds like a fun, friendly date night to me — keep it light.
On Saturday there is no Moon void to screw up your yard sale bargain hunting and errand running. There is however, a First Quarter Moon, exact at 8:27AM ET, which likely presents a challenge to the agenda you set on the New Moon last week. What was that agenda? Something about the beginning of a exciting inner journey… and you know what I’m seeing all over Facebook? People taking 85 million quizzes to find out what city they should live in; what famous painting they would be; what their patronus is; what Downton Abbey character they are; what their name would be if John Travolta mangled it at the Oscars…on and on and on. Why? Answer a bunch of random questions and get an answer that purports to be a reflection of who you really are. Is that because people do not really know who they are? Hmmm…exciting inner journey…hmmmm.
With the Moon in information-junkie Gemini you could easily entertain yourself for two days with these quizzes. On Sunday, that Moon goes void of course at 3:53AM ET…and enters homebody Cancer at 9:33AM ET. So if you plan to shop today, do it after 9:33AM ET…and maybe think about buying something wonderful to cook and/or make your home a cozier place…or call Mom.
And now, the news. Earlier this week we talked about two people making dramatic, record-breaking headlines: Ellen DeGeneres and John Travolta. Both of them have planets or an angle at 13 degrees of Aries, Libra, Cancer or Capricorn. Why is that relevant? Well, Pluto — which can bring prominence when it makes contact with a planet in a horoscope — is now at 13 Capricorn. Fascinating! In April, we’ll have the Cardinal Grand Cross among Uranus in Aries, Jupiter in Cancer, Mars in Libra and Pluto in Capricorn exact at 13 degrees of those signs, turning up the volume and the voltage. Keep an eye on anyone you know who has a planet or angle at 13 Cardinal. Their horoscope is hot.
You know who else has a planet at 13 degrees of one of those signs (other than nearly every client who’s contacted me in recent weeks)? Vladimir Putin. Yup, he has the Sun at 13 Libra. He is certainly making headlines. Meanwhile, the United States has its Sun at 13 Cancer…and its Saturn at 14 Libra. Significant events involving themes of empowerment, transformation and/or emancipation will be on deck for the U.S. and Mr. Putin from now into early 2015. For more on how Uranus and Pluto can impact a horoscope, check out this article I wrote a couple of years ago — it’s still relevant.
It’s Friday morning. Do you know where your planets are?
My patronus is an otter — same as Hermione.
Thank you for reading this forecast.
Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 3/6/2014: Mind the Void; More on Mars; John Travolta at the Oscars
/in The ForecastWell, if it was something of consequence that needed to be shipped yesterday, you might consider holding off until Friday. The security-seeking Taurus Moon goes void at 8:55AM ET, not to enter Gemini until 9:37PM ET. And it is going void on a potentially cranky connection to stern Saturn. An extra cup of caffeine, anyone?
Shake it off with a sigh and stick to what’s routine, if you can’t flake out at the office today. Sure, it may feel as if you are herding cats, as efforts to move forward in a straight line may be oddly beset with twists and delays. But once you get into a groove, go with the flow — which is likely to get more pleasant as the day progresses.
Meanwhile, a round of applause as jolly Jupiter turns direct at 10 degrees of Cancer. If you know what area of your horoscope is ruled by Jupiter (hint: it’s the house with Sagittarius on the cusp), it may feel like you’ve been in a holding pattern in the areas related to that house. A horoscope with Jupiter ruling the second house of finances and self worth, for example, may have experienced a delay regarding those issues while Jupiter was retrograde. With Jupiter turning direct, forward motion can now be expected. If you have a planet or angle at 10-11 degrees of just about every sign, you are personally affected by this expansive shift. What bounty might you soon receive? Count your blessings and buy a couple of lottery tickets. Consult your local astrologer for further details.
And now, some random headlines:
I have a headache. Sort of a headline, isn’t it? I attribute this to Mars, which rules the head, as well as the sign Aries, being retrograde. Anyone else with Aries and Mars prominent in their horoscopes reaching for aspirin or acupuncture this week? Remedy: work out the backed up energy — literally — at the gym. Or just take a hike. It will help. I hope.
Saturn is also retrograde. Saturn rules the skin, bones and teeth. If you have Saturn or Capricorn prominent in your horoscope those areas of the body may be health concerns at some point in your life.
Meanwhile, people are still talking about John Travolta’s mangled pronouncement of Idina Menzel’s name at the Oscars, so I thought it would be fun to take a look at his horoscope. We know we’re going to see some nebulous Neptune action, given that his behavior was rather bewildering/surreal, right? And since the behavior was so disruptive and prominent, we can assume — before even looking at the horoscope — that the never-ending Uranus-Pluto square is also involved.
OK, so. One look at the horoscope and — there you have it: transiting nebulous Neptune just barely past an exact connection with Travolta’s Venus (social expression) in Pisces and his Mars (action) in opinionated Sagittarius. And there’s his Midheaven (public status) at 13 Aries — with Pluto squaring it at 13 Capricorn (prominence!)…and about to get hit by the full-blown Cardinal Grand Cross (Uranus-Pluto-Jupiter-Mars) in late April. I would not be surprised to read of something big happening for him around that time — and if we don’t hear about it this spring, keep an eye on October — and again in January of 2015.
Also of note: transiting Saturn at 23 Scorpio was stationary retrograde and exactly squaring Travolta’s natal Pluto at 23 Leo on Oscar night. Saturn – Pluto contacts are known for being tough….as in, “whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” Travolta has Moon in Virgo, which needs needs needs to be correct. Ouch.
