THE
I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 11/19/2014: Mind the Void
/in The ForecastEast Coasters, if it really needs to stick, ship it today before the Moon goes void at 9:25AM ET until 12:31AM ET on Thursday. Otherwise, be flexible with whatever twists and flakes disrupt your efforts to move forward in a straight line for the rest of the day. Take care of routine projects and make the most of the lingering good vibes that will likely get you out of bed, courtesy of a cooperative connection between expansive Jupiter and the socially-inclined Libra Moon.
Another pattern influencing the day is a dreamy challenge between Venus in opinionated, righteous Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces, which refers to intangibles, drugs, betrayal, vision & high art. And that’s only a partial list. Get out your rose-colored glasses; indulge in some music, a show or your own personal fantasy. Check out the trippy new animated short about Vincent Van Gogh’s way-ahead-of-his-time perceptions of physical reality, as modern-day physicists now can see were clearly expressed in his paintings.
Add the heavy karma cop potential of yesterday’s Sun-Saturn meet-up and bear witness to TV host Janice Dickinson adding her voice to those of the over a dozen women who have accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault. The timing is fascinating, given what we can see about her horoscope. She has a T-square among her Sun in Aquarius, Pluto in Leo and Saturn in Scorpio which has just been activated by transiting Saturn at 25 Scorpio squaring her 26 Aquarius Sun and 25 Leo Pluto. Also of interest: her Venus (social expression) sits right on Cosby’s currently super-charged Midheaven (public status, career) at 11 Capricorn. And on Sunday, when nebulous Neptune turned direct at 4 Pisces, it was squaring Cosby’s Venus at 4 Gemini. Cosby’s horoscope was discussed earlier this month, if you’re just tuning in.
My point here today is not to analyze what all these connections mean, but to show — once again — that when things happen in life, there is nearly always a corresponding pattern in the horoscope. Which is why it is so helpful to know what’s going on in your own chart.
Meanwhile, Japan is dealing with sobering economic news, as it has apparently slid back into a recession, and Prime Minister Shinto Abe is calling for early elections. Saturn, which rules the area of Japan’s horoscope concerning resources, is just about to make contact with its Mars at 27 Scorpio, suggesting no small amount of frustration.
Elsewhere, the fear and control potential of the Sun and Saturn in Scorpio was reflected in the Senate’s refusal to pass a landmark bill — the US Freedom Act — that would have curtailed the Secret Squirrel surveillance activities of the NSA. It also voted down — by ONE vote — a proposal to pass a bill that would have authorized the construction of the notorious Keystone XL Pipeline. I’m not sure that vote reflects a Sun-Saturn conjunction, but let me say this again: ONE vote, dear readers. One. Don’t ever think your vote does not matter.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 11/18/2014: Gravitas
/in The ForecastToday’s Libra Moon puts a focus on people-pleasing, fairness and balance in relationship, with no small amount of talk and rationalization about it. Bumps and jolts, minor emotional power plays and catharses may also be experienced around 1:39PM and 4:03PM ET, as the Moon makes its weekly clash with Uranus and Pluto. On the plus side, this clash offers the potential for breakthrough and revelation.
West Coasters, take note of a third lunar clash — this time with aggressive Mars — at 1:30AM ET. Zip it, and yield graciously to the self-absorbed troglodyte on the freeway.
Meanwhile, use this morning’s infusion of gravitas suggested by the annual meet-up between Sun and taskmaster Saturn (at 3:50AM), to take care of some heavy lifting.
And now, the news.
First, gratitude to Helen, who shared this heavy news item and the no-nonsense consortium of journalists who regularly break all sorts of status quo-disrupting, Uranus-Pluto corruption-exposing stories:
Second, sobering news on the increasing levels of income inequality in the United States. Those at the top are still rising; incomes for everyone else are declining….but what’s really sobering is how the U.S. compares to a whole bunch of other countries.
Add the sobering Sun-Saturn realism to the focus on intangibles and spirit suggested by Neptune turning direct on Sunday, and we find in the NYT a frank piece on one woman’s near-death experience. So what? Big deal.
Neptune also refers to empathy, and I was truly delighted by this op-ed titled, “On Smushing Bugs”. Neptune also rules Pisces, which rules the feet. So as a break from the gravitas of all the Sun-Saturn in Scorpio headlines (especially the ones I did not report that made headlines this morning), I leave you with this story of a family that inherited a building in which they discovered a perfectly preserved shoe store that closed 50 years ago. I bet none of the shoes pictured were made in China.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 11/17/2014: Life Lessons & Sneak Peek At The Week
/in The ForecastGood Morning!
Whatever twist or detour you experience as you start the work week is coinciding with a void-of-course Moon in Virgo from 6:11AM ET until 2:30PM ET. If you wander into the office a bit late, or you notice a certain lack of focus in meetings, that’s a reflection of the wandering energy of a Moon void. Focus on routine matters and organizing your to-do list and your desk. You should notice a decided shift in the energy of the day once the Moon enters Libra at 2:30PM ET.
While aspects to the Moon are pleasantly social for the rest of the day, there’s a serious, somber flavor to the already fixed and controlling vibe of the Scorpio Sun. And this would be the Sun’s annual hook-up with Saturn, the taskmaster and karma cop of the cosmos. Watch the headlines for heavy news. You’ll feel it more personally if you have a planet or angle at around 27 degrees of Scorpio, Leo, Aquarius and Taurus. If you have a planet or angle around 29 degrees of those signs, consider booking a consultation to discuss it, because you’ll be feeling a need for extraordinary discipline and effort in December and for most of next summer. President Obama, here’s how you can contact me.
After the heaviness of the Sun and Saturn on Tuesday, we’ll have a lighter respite on Thursday, suggested by Venus (art, money, women, social expression), now in high-flying, foot-in-mouth Sagittarius, challenged by dreamy Neptune. Break out the rose-colored glasses and jot down your vision for the next lunar cycle, when begins on Saturday at 7:32AM ET with the New Moon in Sagittarius.
Your Moon voids for the week, other than today are: Wednesday from 9:25AM until 12:31AM ET on Thursday, so ship it before or after Wednesday if it’s something you wish to be of consequence. Otherwise, chill — roll with the twists and flakes — and don’t make mountains of crises out of molehills.
Tonight, if the skies are clear, look up and see if you can catch a falling star when the Leonids meteor showers peak.
And now, the news.
Much of it is heavy, suggested by current planetary patterns. This piece is serious, but thought-provoking: “Welcome to the Failure Age!” In it you’ll find shades of Saturn (fear), Uranus (innovation and disruption) and Pluto (corporations), along with some visionary (Neptune) ideas about where we might be headed as a society on the brink of a paradigm shift. No, it’s not all doom and gloom. Meanwhile, I found a truly fantastic and inspired report with an equally provocative title: “The Dutch Village Where Everyone Has Dementia”. It’s an epic example of how empowering humans can be when expressing empathy, creativity and kindness. And all of society benefits as a result.
Finally, I am still looking to barter in exchange for a projector. Something that does what this thingmajig does so I can project horoscopes on a screen or a wall so everyone in a classroom or a workshop can see them. Now I could just go out and buy one, but a friend of mine who happens to be a professional spiritual teacher challenged me to offer a barter. So there must be a spiritual lesson in this process, for sure.
So far, one gentleman in an online community of advertising professionals offered to sell me his old projector for a modest price, but could not resist letting me know that his horoscope that day had advised him not to do a trade deal. Because mocking a prospective buyer’s line of work is such an effective sales technique, y’know? Next!
One woman in another online community said what a coincidence it was that I was looking for a projector, because she was just going to post a practically brand-new one for just $100! A tempting offer, but remember, I’ve been challenged to barter. So I suggested she post her projector in our mutual online community, and let prospective buyers know that they could buy the projector for $100 from her and then trade it for an astro-logical consultation if they would rather have that. Such a deal, right? And a win-win-win for three separate parties! She writes back, “That’s a very creative idea, but I’m really not interested in pursuing it”.
This reply surprised me, because I am fairly certain she’s not a member of Congress (I can say that because I’m not trying to sell a congresswoman anything). I am also certain that I would never want to have her as a scene partner in an improv class, where the cardinal rule for building a successful scene is, “Yes, AND.” Which is actually a cardinal rule for building anything successful in life, as I’ve mentioned here before…but let Tina Fey give you her take on why this “Yes, AND” rule is so liberating, empowering and effective. Try it and you’ll love it.
So I’m still looking for a projector. But not just any projector from just anybody. I’m looking for a most excellent projector which someone who is most excellent, authentic, creative, smart and respectful of astrology would like to exchange for a number TBD of astro-logical consultations. Going once…going twice…
Thank you for reading this forecast.
Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 11/14/2014 & the Weekend: Neptune Direct; the Perfect Timing of President Obama (and GWB, Too)
/in The ForecastGood Morning!
An optimistic meet-up between the regal/playful Leo Moon and expansive Jupiter drives the start of the day, exact at 9:18AM ET. You may not even need that cup of coffee. Patterns the rest of the day are more charged. The Third Quarter Moon at 10:15AM ET suggests another challenge on a project begun at the New Moon — will it bear fruit? At the end of the day — 5:03PM ET — stern Saturn challenges the Moon. Will the markets, which have been expanding mightily under this week’s expansive and volatile patterns, dip a bit? Regardless, pleasure-seeking indulgence is suggested this evening, as Moon squares Venus at 9:53PM ET and then goes void until 2:08AM ET. Chill!
On Saturday, the discerning Virgo Moon would love to help you get things organized and perfect. Midday may be a little dreamy or muddled, suggested by a face-off between the Moon and nebulous Neptune. Sunday, the Virgo organizational vibe continues, aided by a cooperative connective between Mercury and Pluto that may be piercing and ruthless, but also may offer a fresh perspective that is perfect for getting rid of things that no longer serve. It’s a good time to check out the options as open enrollment begins for health care plans as mandated by the Affordable Care Act. Even if you signed up for a plan last year, prices have changed, so do some comparison shopping and you might save some cash.
And speaking of fresh, Venus — which refers to women, love, art, money — leaves intense and controlling Scorpio for high-flying Sagittarius at 2:04PM ET, ready for a gamble or a gambol in social expression. Such a relief, even if some may trip over the furniture. Earlier that day, Neptune turns direct, ending a five month period of subtle focus on your own dreams and intuition for guidance.
When a planet is retrograde, the suggestion is to turn inward on issues involving that planet, as opposed to looking outside the self. You’ll feel the effects of Neptune’s change of station more personally if you were born 5-7 days into Pisces, Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius…or if you have a planet or angle at 5-7 degrees of those signs. What kind of effects? Oh….perhaps you are feeling somewhat bewildered…or less inclined to be in Type A personality mode (if you are normally a Type A personality). You may find yourself needing to express your creativity — even if you have never thought of yourself as a “creative” person. You may also find being of service richly rewarding.
And now, the news.
Funny how yesterday’s Sun-Jupiter square coincided with headlines about the Sun. The International Business Times reported this gem:
The programme is the Department of Energy’s loan program that funded the solar energy company Solyndra, which failed. Now that D.O.E. program expects to reap a $5-6 billion profit on other sustainable energy projects. And former Secretary of Energy (and Nobel Prize winner) Dr. Steven Chu can blithely say to critics, “Nyah, nyah, nyah”. Have you ever visited the DOE website? Here it is, with helpful bios of the current leadership. Be informed!
For another take on the Sun, gratitude to reader Laura, who forwarded me this headline: “Sunspot Cycles and How They Relate to the Global Shift in Consciousness”.
Elsewhere in energy news, a damning 43-page indictment was filed against former dirty energy baron Don Blankenship, former CEO of Massey Energy, alleging that he was “personally responsible” for hundreds of safety violations and schemes that resulted in the deaths of 29 West Virginia coal miners in 2010. Meanwhile, President Obama is about to announce that the US will invest $3 billion to an international fund dedicated to solving the challenges posed by climate change.
In other news, another NYT article describes President Obama doing exactly what his horoscope suggests he would be doing at this time: being on top of his game and making big initiatives, including a bold plan hinted at yesterday that would likely be “a broad overhaul of the nation’s immigration system.” I just had to smile at the language used in the first article, as the reporter tries to address how perplexed some may be by President Obama’s assertiveness in light of last week’s midterm election:
Happenstance? How about by horoscope?
In another follow-up story, you may recall the excitement this week about European scientists landing a spacecraft on a comet. Well, that landing took place during a Moon void, and it seems there were a few unexpected twists.
Finally, I mentioned yesterday that people with planets around 21 degrees of Leo would be more likely to feel the sunny expansiveness suggested by Jupiter at that degree. Here’s an example: George W. Bush, who’s been all over the air promoting a book about his father. Mr. Bush has Venus at 21 Leo, strongly placed in his First House, which is one planetary patterns supporting why he’s been described as a guy you’d feel comfortable having a beer with. Venus in the First House suggests likeability.
In any case, the last time I wrote about Mr. Bush’s horoscope was back in April — check it out and decide for yourself if he’s living out the potential suggested by his horoscope.
Thank you for reading this forecast — and for sharing it with your friend, relatives and media mavens. Have a wonderful weekend!

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 11/13/2014: Big Fat Everything
/in The ForecastMoon continues in sunny, playful and/or royal pain Leo today, seeking love and to shine, shine, shine. Your creative streak may get an extra dose of innovation, courtesy of a easy connection from unconventional Uranus at 4:03PM ET.
Boundaries are likely to be pushed, for better or for worse, as Sun in extremist Scorpio is challenged by expansive/expensive Jupiter, also in Leo (like today’s Moon). Still, if you have a planet or angle around 21 degrees of just about any sign (but especially Leo), a few lottery tickets — with the operative words being “a few” — could be a fun bet.
Sun-Jupiter aspects are a perfect set up for an “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing” scenario. The temptation is to over-indulge. You have now been advised.
In other news, the results are in regarding voter turnout in last week’s election. Maine had the highest percentage: 59%. That’s wicked good, compared to the rest of the country. Look here to see how your state did. Overall the turnout was the worst it has been in 72 years — something to consider if you ever have a chance to wonder how a man who in 2012 published a book decrying global warming as “the greatest hoax” ever got to be Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “It’s like Harry Potter for people who thought Harry Potter had too much science in it,” said Stephen Colbert of Jim Inhofe’s opus.
Senator Inhofe (11/17/1934 in Des Moines, IA) is a Scorpio with Moon in Aries, a formidable combination. Four planets in Scorpio are on a mission, and the Aries Moon easily champions the impossible. Other patterns suggest a Puritan work ethic (Sun square Saturn, like the horoscope of the United States), idealism and no small amount of pixie dust. That pixie dust easily convinced a majority of the 29% percent of eligible voters who actually voted in Oklahoma last week to send Senator Inhofe back to Washington.
In case you’re wondering how the senator reacted to yesterday’s “breakthrough” accord between the U.S. and China on carbon reduction, here it is. And here is the video of Stephen Colbert’s commentary, in case you missed that, too.
Menwhile, I’m still looking for a projector, if you have one you’d like to exchange for astrological consultation(s)….
