I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 12/8/2014: Jupiter Retrograde; Sneak Peek at the Week
/in The ForecastHigh-flying idealism and a righteous mindset, driven by a need for emotional and/or home security opens the work week. The Sun and Mercury (mind communication) are together in opinionated Sagittarius and the Moon is still in motherhood and apple pie Cancer. That need for security is likely to be rattled in the early morning, especially around 12PM – 12:30PM ET, as the Moon makes its weekly clash with the never-ending Uranus-Pluto square. Choose your battles. Must you engage?
Meanwhile, Jupiter, planet of reward and expansion, turns retrograde at 3:41PM ET. In your own personal world, Jupiter retrograde can put a hold on expansion. In Leo, which refers to the energy of ego recognition and creative self-expression, it suggests you turn inward and reconsider plans for growth, making sure they are in synch with your need and/or ability to shine. As Jupiter turns retrograde at 22 degrees of Leo, you’ll feel this shift more personally if you have a planet or angle at 22 degrees of Leo, Taurus, Aquarius and Scorpio. Jupiter will turn direct on April 9th at 12 degrees of Leo.
On Wednesday, Venus leaves Sagittarius for social-climbing Capricorn, putting an enterprising spin on social interactions for the next few weeks. If you were born with Venus in Capricorn, you could be quite adept at knowing how to use relationships to get ahead. You may wait until later in life before realizing that love is more valuable than status.
If it weren’t for the sixth exact square between disruptive Uranus and ruthless Pluto happening on the 15th, patterns would suggest a week of optimism and abundance. Instead we have a deep rumbling of discontent breaking through to the surface, especially in the U.S., whose horoscope is and will continue to be profoundly affected by Uranus and Pluto well into 2015. The issues of contention are directly related to seeds planted during the mid-60s, when Uranus and Pluto were conjunct, i.e., began a new cycle of potential liberation and transformation.
Yea verily, it is somewhat tiresome to read so many civilian journalists and pundits note the odd similarity between current social issues (e.g., civil rights, women’s rights, etc.) that are hot now and were hot then. I say tiresome — actually it’s a bit frustrating — to read and hear so many opinions that accurately point out the similarity without the added perspective of planetary cycles. Last week, for example, there was an article in the NYT about the astonishing and noticeable “tipping point” that has happened in cases of rape and other sexual assault. OK, so…why is this tipping point happening now? No answer. It was posted on Thursday, two days after a post in this forecast noted the same phenomenon occurring as anticipated, reflected by Saturn nearing the end of its two-year journey in Scorpio (with added help from The Planetary Pattern Everyone Should Be Talking About).
But I digress. One big issue of contention would be the public protests in the U.S. and elsewhere over the failure of grand juries in Staten Island, Missouri and Ohio to indict the police officers who took the lives of certain unarmed citizens who were also African-American. Jon Stewart wasn’t the only one gobsmacked by the latest ruling — this one last week involving the homicide of Eric Garner, whose death by a totally-against-police-regulations choke hold was captured on video. It’s another tipping point about to be reached, perhaps, suggested by the harsh reality check of Uranus-Pluto to the U.S. Sun-Saturn square. Hillary Clinton, quoted in this NYT article about how even some conservatives disagreed with the grand jury findings, concluded:
Exactly. While the seeds of racial equality may have been planted in the mid-60s, as embodied in landmark legislation, we are at a point in time where we are going to discover if those seeds will flower or if they will die. And by “discover,” this is likely to be experienced with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Here is a quote from a lawmaker who applauded the grand jury’s decision in the case of Eric Garner. Take it away, Rep. Peter T. King:
Man, that is harsh. It’s all I can do to restrain myself from typing, “If he had only been able to magically sprout gills, he would have survived being tied to an anchor and thrown overboard.” How much would you like to bet there is 1) a chilly connection between Venus and Saturn and 2) a bewildering Neptune pattern in Mr. King’s horoscope (April 5, 1944 — NY NY — time unknown)? Similar patterns can be found in the chart of Japan’s Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso (Sept 20, 1940, Iisuka, Japan) who made headlines today for scolding “people who don’t give birth” and urging seniors to “hurry up and die”.
Finally, on a more uplifting note: on Friday, just after Mars entered space cadet Aquarius and aligned with the mobile Gemini Moon AND the Sun aligned with technogeek Uranus, the Orion spacecraft got off the ground. This is a prototype of a craft that will eventually embark on manned missions to Mars…fingers crossed.
Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 12/5/2014 & the Weekend: Gemini Buzz
/in The ForecastTalking up a storm perhaps, as the Moon enters chatterbox Gemini at 5:28AM ET and aligns with energetic Mars, now in far-out Aquarius moments later. Your imagination may be working overtime around 2:21PM ET, when Moon is challenged by visionary Neptune, but innovative thinking can carry the day, thanks to an easy connection between mental Mercury and rocket scientist Uranus at 10:44PM ET.
Saturday at 7:27AM ET, the Moon will be Full at 14 degrees of Gemini, illuminating whatever projects you launched on the New Moon two weeks ago and elevating the demand for information, communication, clever entertainment, multi-tasking and general buzz. Get out and about and take care of your chores; there’s no Moon void to dissuade your shopping endeavors.
Chill out on Sunday morning, when the Moon will be void from 4:52AM until 12:34PM ET. Moon voids are excellent for catching extra zzzzs, tuning in to your intuition and being willing to wander. After the void, Moon enters homebody Cancer, facilitating a need to tend to domestic and family obligations, and feed your soul with a dinner made from scratch. Rose-colored glasses are suitable for your evening wear, given an easy alignment between the Moon and visionary Neptune, along with an idealistic meet-up between the high-flying Sun and Mercury in Sagittarius that will be exact early on Monday. How perfect for seeing your family in an ideal light.
Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 12/3/2014: Feet on the Ground; Pie in the Sky
/in The ForecastPull it together today with innovation, as you work to build something solid out of Monday and Tuesday’s innovative, proactive spirit. The Moon has been in steady, comfort-seeking Taurus since 12:15AM ET, where it will stay until 5:25AM ET on Friday. Oh the joyful sensual indulgences that can be yours for the next two days, supported by an easy connection between Venus and Jupiter that’s exact on Thursday! Anyone with a planet or angle around 22 degrees of virtually every sign may be personally feeling the love, or at least a potential expansion.
Meanwhile, as Uranus and Pluto move closer and closer to their sixth exact square on December 15th, those with planets or angles around 12 degrees of Aries, Capricorn, Libra and Cancer are likely feeling the “change or die” buzz. If you don’t know where your planets are, consider getting the Astro-Basics Report — third item down on this list here. Really, you’ll get even more out of this daily forecast if you take the time to learn more about your personal horoscope, and I’m happy to help.
And now, the news.
Divorce rates are down. Are you surprised? Apparently they peaked in the late 70s and early 80s. So of course I had to check my ephemeris to see exactly what going on in the cosmos that would reflect a breakdown and reality check in the contractual institution of marriage. Let’s see….breakdown…reality check…marriage. Sounds like Pluto…Saturn….Libra. And in fact, Pluto was in Libra in the late 70s — just past 15 degrees — the halfway mark. Saturn was in Libra in the early 80s. Libra refers to marriage and other one-on-one partnerships.
Pluto will flirt with the halfway mark of Capricorn next year, and then move full speed ahead at 15 Capricorn in January of 2016. Saturn will join Pluto in Capricorn in January of 2018. Capricorn refers to the Establishment, financial and government institutions. That would be a good time for a bit of restructuring.
Meanwhile, the good folks at NBC have picked a fine feel-good evening for their second foray into live musical theater broadcast: Peter Pan, tomorrow night. Planetary patterns support technical and technological endeavors, and from this write-up, they are going to need them. Compare it to planetary patterns on their first effort — last year’s ratings success story, “The Sound of Music”.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 12/2/2014: Thoughts on Saturn in Scorpio & Sagittarius
/in The ForecastAlllll-righty, then!
Unless there’s a challenging pattern happening in your own unique horoscope, I can’t think of a single reason not to feel inspired and ready to take on the world this morning. The Moon in Aries is certainly up for a fresh initiative, supported by warm and easy connections from Venus and Jupiter, which are generally considered to be fortunate when so positively aligned. Up and at ’em…..with the caveat being that as we get closer to 9:42PM ET, tensions may build to a fleeting release or spat, as the me-me-me Aries Moon is challenged by action hero Mars in Establishment Capricorn. That’s also when the Moon goes void with a sigh, suggesting you not make a mountain out of a molehill, if that’s what you stumble across. It’ll settle down once the Moon enters Taurus at 12:15AM ET on Wednesday, looking to build something solid out of the inspiration that hit you earlier in the week.
Other notes for the week, which I neglected to mention yesterday: Full Moon in Gemini early Saturday, at 7:27AM ET. That’ll shed light on whatever you launched two weeks ago. Also, be advised that Jupiter, planet of expansion — and sometimes excess — is slowing to a stop and will turn retrograde on the afternoon of Dec 8th (Monday). If you’ve got a planet or angle around 22 degrees of Leo, Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius, I’ll wager themes of expansion, abundance and/or excess are up for you all month — how lucky for you. If you don’t know what degrees your planets are at, consider ordering the Really Useful Astro-Basics Report, which I’ll send to you along with a photo-quality rendition of your horoscope against a deep blue background of bright stars. That would make a nice holiday gift, too — as would a hand-crafted gift certificate for a personal astro-logical consultation.
And now, the news.
Just a couple of observations on a few stories that have made headlines as Saturn makes its way through the last degrees of Scorpio. You may remember Saturn started this journey just over two years ago. At that time I anticipated we’d see stories about the nitty-gritty consequences of sexual energy, death and money (debt) capturing our attention in often awful detail. And sure enough, for two years we’ve seen more than the usual share of stories of rape and other forms of sexual assault and harassment, along with abortion, contraception, crushing debt, death penalty fiascoes, assisted suicide, etc.
Once Saturn made its way halfway through Scorpio, which it did this summer, we could expect to see some changing attitudes about these issues, as we collectively integrated the harsh reality check Saturn implies. Now Saturn is at 27 degrees of Scorpio. How have things changed since Saturn started this journey? Yesterday it was reported that two male Princeton students were removed from their officer posts at an exclusive social club after circulating emails containing derogatory (a mild way of putting it) material about women. Elsewhere, University of Virginia took action after Rolling Stone published an investigative story about rapes on campus. In Pennsylvania, the president of Lincoln University was ousted after making certain comments about sexual assault in a convocation address to women students. In Los Angeles, an ex-boyfriend is going to jail for posting nude pictures of his former girlfriend online in a case of “revenge porn”. And allegations of rape against Bill Cosby aren’t going away any time soon, with consequences. As of yesterday, Mr. Cosby is no longer on the Board of Trustees at Temple University (with more consequences to follow in 2015, planetary patterns would suggest).
These are just a few examples of Saturn in Scorpio concerns, and we clearly have a long way to go. But these stories do reflect a shift, and it’s a start. Saturn will enter Sagittarius on December 23rd. It will move back into Scorpio June 15th and stay until September 18th, so we’ll see more of these kinds of headlines then. What can we expect from Saturn in Sagittarius? Briefly, a reality check on collective belief systems, foreigners, travel, education, religion, broadcasting and the law, to mention a few possibilities.
To be continued…
Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 12/1/2014: Sneak Peek At The Week
/in The ForecastGood Morning!
Plenty of feisty fire energy to start off the work week, as the Moon in RAMbunctious Aries makes easy connections to Mercury and Sun in high-flying Sagittarius at 5:15AM and 12:30PM ET. Make your pioneering initiatives sooner rather than later today, aided by another easy connection between action hero Mars and disciplined Saturn at 2PM ET. As the day progresses, you may feel a power surge that releases in an upset or breakthrough, as the Moon in headstrong Aries makes its weekly clash with ruthless Pluto and rebel Uranus at 5:12PM and 6:12PM ET, respectively.
Overall patterns this week favor action, innovation and someplace somewhere, somebody enjoying more than a bit of abundance. The action is the aforementioned Mars-Saturn connection; the innovation is courtesy of easy connections to the Sun (lifeforce) and Mercury (mindset, communication) from technogeek Uranus on Thursday and Friday; the abundance is thanks to another easy connection between sweet Venus in Sagittarius and cosmic sugar daddy Jupiter on Thursday.
There are few Moon voids to delay your efforts to move forward in a straight line, at least not during business hours in the Americas. These natural rest periods will happen on: Tuesday 9:42PM ET until 12:15AM ET on Wednesday, and Friday 1:45AM ET until 5:25AM ET. So…onward!
One notable shift this week is Mars, planet of action, leaving Capricorn on Thursday night. Mars functions with great drive and efficiency in Capricorn, where it happily serves the Establishment and the building of empires. In Aquarius, where it will be until January 12th, it needs to take action on broad-minded humanitarian concerns that may also buck the system. It can also be quite stubborn in its fringe pursuits.
And now, the news.
Monday’s proactive patterns could be effectively applied to the start of a two-week-long summit in South America during which U.N. negotiators will try to do something productive about climate change. How interesting that we’ll have that sixth Uranus-Pluto square in two weeks. Perhaps one of the groundbreaking events will be related to the outcome of this summit.
Not much else to report since I consciously avoided serious headlines over the holiday weekend. But I did note this release of a holiday ad campaign for Sainsbury’s — the British supermarket chain — coinciding with last week’s rose-colored, peace-seeking Sun-Neptune square. The ad depicts a temporary truce that happened among British and German soldiers fighting in World War I. It was Christmas, and miraculously, they stopped fighting — for one day. And they reportedly shared chocolate and photos and played their version of football, or so the commercial would have us believe. Then it was business as usual, and they went back to trying to kill each other. Amazing. This other video tells the story of how the commercial was made.
Thank you for reading this forecast.
