I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Friday 7/31/2020 & the Weekend: Buzz in the Air; Catching Up on the News
/in The ForecastTGIF!
What a week for the news…though it’s remarkably quiet elsewhere. Are you all on vacation? Sensing that Mars — planet of action — is beginning to slow down as it prepares to turn retrograde on September 9th? Or are you transfixed by the constant flow of breaking stories — for better or for worse?
To recap the planetary patterns for this weekend — and reflected in the news for the past few days (except for the Moon):
No sleeping in on Monday, the start of another busy week. The Full Moon will be followed by Mercury’s annual face-off with Saturn, a likely reality check.
And now, the news.
Heather Cox Richardson‘s daily digest continues to present the important stories — here’s her review for Thursday (yesterday). As she notes, it was a week of extremes — good and bad — and in sync with planetary patterns noted above.
Meanwhile, in the relative quiet here at the Home Office on Tuesday, I applied the Scorpio Moon’s need for depth and control to a deep-cleaning and purge of files that no longer served. In Washington, House Judiciary Chair Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) experienced a different outburst of energy. Born on June 13, 1947 in NYC, he had transiting Mars (cars, action) squaring his Mercury right about the time he got into a car accident. Though unharmed, the fender-bender delayed the start of Attorney General William Barr‘s appearance before Congress until minutes before the exact trine between the Scorpio Moon and Neptune. Holy obfuscation, Batman — just as anticipated in the forecast posted on Monday — summed up by Heather Cox Richardson here.
While Twitter pundits opined that the Democrats’s questions to Barr lacked teeth (Neptune!), Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Gymnasium)’s trio of planets in “Ready! Fire! Aim!” Aries were supercharged — especially by the first of three meet-ups of transiting Mars with his Jupiter (the other Aries planets are Moon and Venus). His bombast was duly noted in HCR’s notes linked above — and he continued with his aggressive questions to Dr. Fauci, who appeared before Congress today. Watch for more of the same from Jordan around October 25 and December 4th — and also note that with transiting Uranus conjunct his Mercury through 2021, his thinking and communication style is bound to be disruptive, innovative — or simply bizarre. Birth data: February 17, 1964 in Urbana, OH. Here’s a write-up from 2018, reminding us that former House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) once called Jordan “a legislative terrorist.” Jordan’s Mars and Saturn in Aquarius sit on the U.S. Moon, so we can see why his impact on the nation is so combative and controlling.
Speaking of the U.S. horoscope, transiting Saturn will meet up with its Pluto on August 4th for the second time this year (first was February 23rd; third will be November 20th). Harsh controls and a potentially anguished effort in the face of loss would not be unexpected. Yesterday Senate Republicans failed to agree on a coronavirus relief bill that House Democrats passed in May. Instead they worked on their own bill, which included zillions for fighter planes and a new building for the FBI — certainly a novel way of fighting the novel coronavirus.
Were they under the influence of transiting Mars activating the U.S. Sun-Saturn square last week? That could be militant, right? Alas, they could not come to terms with Democrats or among themselves, so the Senate left town yesterday, with no deal on the table — and no federal assistance paid to roughly 30 million Americans next week. Harsh? Here’s what’s harsh: “U.S. economy contracts at record rate” — highest since the Depression.
When will your horoscope be activated by a potentially assertive or streamlining pattern — and how will you put that energy to good use? Consult your local astrologer for details.
Belated story reflecting the weird, wild, wigginess of Neptune in contact with Venus and Neptune earlier this week — on a day with Moon in bwaahahahahahahahahaha! Scorpio:
And…
Madonna’s horoscope is currently experiencing a heavy Neptune pattern, in which finding strength in the spiritual –as opposed to the material — would be tested. It’s fascinating that she has a Venus-Neptune square in her horoscope and a strong Jupiter-Neptune connection, too — similar to the general patterns that were exact on Monday — and here she is making news!! Point is, we see why Madonna needs to see the world as more ideal than it perhaps is…and how much big, fat faith needs to be part of it.
Moon soared into Sagittarius on Wednesday, pushing boundaries with enthusiasm. A highly active Mercury (how we need to think and communicate) suggested “significant court opinions, legislative efforts, diplomatic statements and editorials.” Mix that in with the muckraking potential of more Mercury action this weekend, in effect now. These past two days have brought us:
Hmmm. Did I get all the highlights? There’s so much to report.
Herman Cain died. He went to P45’s Tulsa rally in June, without a mask — defiantly. He was hospitalized with Covid two weeks later. Do we see that vulnerability in what we know of his horoscope? Yes.
Meanwhile…
“NASA launches Perseverance rover in mission to find life on Mars” — several days after the UAE launched their first mission to the Red Planet. Avid Reader Katya noticed the word “perseverance” more than once in the headlines — here in reference to John Lewis — and wondered if was there an astrological connection?
Perseverance is a fitting word for Mars in some signs. Aries, for instance, never gives up. When in contact with planets in Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn), Mars could be motivated to create structure and form out of its fiery drive. Mars is in Aries now — in touch with Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto in Capricorn through most of the year. Uranus — symbol of space-age technology — is in Taurus. Hmm.
Mars in Taurus always makes me think of perseverance, as Mars in Taurus can be so darn stubborn. Guess what John Lewis has? Mars in Taurus — in a charged aspect with Saturn in Aries and Pluto (power!). He has two other planets in Aries, too — Venus and Jupiter. Birth data: February 21, 1940 in Troy, AL. Pisces Sun; Moon in Leo.
Pay attention to the words reporters choose to describe the people they write about. You’re sure to find those words expressed in the horoscope. It gets to the point where you know what you’re going to see in the horoscope before you even look. Astrology is amazing.
If you find this forecast amazing, here’s your opportunity to support it, with appreciation.
Have a great weekend!
Thank you for reading this forecast.
Monday 7/27/2020: Sneak Peek at the Week; Mercury in Focus
/in The ForecastAllll-righty then!
I’m sorry I wasn’t able to post a forecast for the weekend, as there’s so much to report.
Moon entered Scorpio at 12:12 AM ET, driving the next two days with a need for depth and substance — for the sake of power and control. It squares the Leo Sun at 8:33 AM ET, prompting action and/or a challenge released on whatever New Moon agenda was set last Monday. A surprise upset likely occurs around 6:04 PM ET, when Moon is opposed by Uranus, marching to the beat of its own drummer.
Meanwhile, we have three patterns exact today, two of which are the third in a series of three — – which means that issues that were happening on the first and second hits are likely to return for a final wrap. You’re seeing them all over the news:
The rest of the week goes like this:
Meanwhile…
…we have two planets either entering or leaving the shadow portion of their respective retrogrades. Today (Monday), Venus is at 21 Gemini — where it was when it turned retrograde on May 13th. Even though Venus turned direct on June 25th, it still had to retrace steps it had already gone over twice before — once forward; once backward — and forward for a second time. Clear? You have now completed the re-evaluation of values — in money, art and social expression — that Venus retrograde offers. If you have a planet around 21 Gemini, Pisces, Virgo or Sagittarius, perhaps you’ll experience a recall of appreciation received around May 13th.
Mars was at 15 Aries yesterday. It will turn retrograde on September 9th at 28 degrees of Aries. Every action and assertion that happens between now and then is subject to REVIEW between September 9th and November 14th, when Mars will turn direct at — 15 degrees of Aries. Then we will have until January 3rd to REVIEW these actions and assertions once again — and finally move forward. I have said this before and I will say it again: it is fascinating that both Mars and Saturn will end their retrograde shadow periods on January 3rd, the start of the next Congress.
Note also that between now and the end of 2020, Mars in Aries will square Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn multiple times. This will trigger the eclipse that happened on January 10th. It will trigger the Saturn-Pluto conjunction exact on January 12th, as well as the three Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions that occur this year. Translation: a lot of action, as Aries independence clashes big-time corporate controls. Note these dates: August 4th, 13th and 24th — and stay tuned.
If you enjoy these forecasts and would like to become a truly cherished Avid Reader, here is the link to my Cosmic Tip Jar.
And now, the news.
The ability to shine and help others shine, too is oh-so-apt for the Sun in Leo. And darned if this article didn’t show up on last week’s ingress of the Sun — and Moon — in Leo:
UPDATE: on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), whose horoscope was first discussed in 2018. Diplomatic Libra Sun; crusading Aries Moon; righteously opinionated Sagittarius Ascendant; Mercury in Libra at the Aries Point — square Uranus. Whatever she has to say is bound to get noticed. This summer she’s enjoying a rare pattern involving her Midheaven and her Venus, the planet which rules her Libra Midheaven and two other areas in her chart which refer to self-expression and cooperation. The pattern was exact on July 16th — but still in effect now — and it facilitates truckloads of popularity.
Enter Congressmen Ted Yoho (R-Obviously), who encounters AOC on the Capitol steps last Monday — and tells her she’s “disgusting” and “out of her mind” for siding with statistics and criminologists that affirm a causal link between economic marginalization and crime. She tells him he’s rude — and when she’s out of earshot (but not far enough away from a reporter), he mutters that she’s “a fuckin’ bitch.” Quelle scandale!
Two days later, Yoho gives a speech in which he refuses to apologize and denies saying what the reporter heard him say. Yoho could be a recalcitrant, eccentric blowhard, with Sun in Aries squaring rebel Uranus and grandiose Jupiter. His Neptune opposes the Sun and squares Jupiter-Uranus, adds his own special brand of faith and fantasy. These four planets are currently stressed by Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto — which is one reflection of why he’s not running for re-election. Yoho: April 13, 1955 — in Minneapolis, MN. Yoho’s angry outbursts may also be sourced to transiting Mars on his natal Mercury. We see why he would be feeling provocative.
Now AOC is not going to stand for this, given her horoscope. Right? So, with additional support from Venus, Mercury and Mars, AOC gives her own speech on the House floor, condemning the patriarchy for its persistence in using words as a weapon against women — and then refusing to take responsibility for their abuse. It’s been declared a classic — and you can watch it via the link above. Ultimately, Yoho’s “verbal attack” got him ousted from the board of a Christian charity.
UPDATE: on Dr. Fauci. I wish we had a birth time. Yes, his Capricorn Sun was eclipsed in December and June. Yes, his Saturn — and probably his Scorpio Moon — are being jackhammered by disruptive contact from transiting Uranus. But there’s more — probably involving the Ascendant — to reflect the current slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. Last week, Randy Rainbow paid tribute in a new must-see song parody. He’s on the cover of InStyle magazine, and he tossed out the first pitch for the Washington Nationals (to prove he’s serious about not wanting anyone to catch anything, snarked the Twittersphere). Today Dr. Fauci offered a sliver of Jupiter-Venus-Neptune hope…for a possible Covid-19 vaccine in November.
UPDATE on Michelle Obama. Told ya to keep an eye on an upcoming launch, given patterns in her horoscope. She is launching a project — a podcast –– on Wednesday.
Meanwhile…
Neptune diffuses aggression; Jupiter expands whatever it touches. Together, the two reflect hope in the most hopeless of times. Peaceful protests are growing — not just in the United States, as in “Huge anti-Kremlin protests erupt in Russia’s far east”. Even in Norway, they are protesting…the destruction of a building adorned with murals by Picasso (cue Venus-Neptune now, please). In other news, here are some statistics about the potential for violence of the so-called Antifa movement vs. other protest groups. They’re much more fizzle than sizzle.
Venus-Neptune suggests rose-colored idealism involving women:
Mars refers to athletes, and in Aries, it’s rarin’ to go. They tried hard last week in baseball — but darn that Jupiter-Neptune diffusion. First, many athletes took a knee during the national anthem (in basketball, WNBA teams walked out) — a big peaceful protest. But now other games are being postponed, due to Covid-19. — including the Republican convention that had been moved from Charlotte, NC to Jacksonville, FL — and has now been flat-out cancelled.
If only we had a strong national leader who would do what New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern did and seriously shut the whole country down in a massive coordinated effort. If only our leader had her horoscope — (written about in the current issue of Mountain Astrologer)!
Finally, if Neptune is imagination, Jupiter makes it big. Now we are finding out about a secret gathering that happened in June, under another imaginative Neptune pattern (Sun square Neptune). Their mission: imagining all possible scenarios in the aftermath of the November 3rd election, as if they were playing a Dungeons & Dragons game.
We are living in extremely interesting times.

Monday 7/20/2020: Sneak Peek at the Week; Saturn Opposing New Moon in Cancer is Heavy
/in The ForecastIt’s Monday.
Moon has been in Cancer since Saturday morning, driving the days with a focus on home/family/homeland security. It’s a dead Moon — at the end of its cycle. In these literally dark nights (and days) we may feel listless or restless, sensing that something new is around the corner, but we don’t know what. These times are apt for clandestine meetings — anything that wants to fly under the radar. Oh, we’ll find out what they were up to eventually — and in this particular case, keep an eye on the first weeks of September and January, as well as Thanksgiving/early December. That’s when transiting Mars and Saturn will activate patterns in today’s heavy New Moon in Cancer chart.
Here’s how the week goes:
Sun-Moon at 28 Cancer are at the top of the chart, square to the 28 Libra Ascendant. Sun-Moon is at the end of Cancer; Ascendant is at the end of Libra. If this chart were a horary question (explained on this page as the Quick Question), we’d say that events are flowing to their inevitable conclusion. The person asking may already know the answer and there’s nothing left to be done — or the matter has already been decided and the person has simply yet to discover it. Les jeux sont faits — a play by Jean-Paul Sartre — has been on my mind all weekend. I studied it in high school.
The fated quality of this New Moon is Saturn at 28 Capricorn, exactly opposing the Sun-Moon and also squaring the Ascendant. We’ve been feeling the cuts and controls of Sun opposing Saturn over the past few days, adding further weight to the power plays of last week’s Jupiter-Pluto opposition to the Cancer Sun. Warning: Saturn headlines can be depressing and defeating, but this is the reality we’re in right now — and since you’ve been reading this forecast, hopefully you are prepared:
More headlines in a minute — and the point here is that the stories driving the news cycle are a reflection of current planetary patterns — and we saw them coming, especially in the U.S., as its horoscope is affected more than others. Astrology is amazing.
The Sun-Moon oppositions to Saturn are sooooo close (and exact today) that they are likely to be felt throughout this lunar cycle. Next on deck is a cooperative alignment between Mercury (how we need to think) and Uranus, suggesting innovation and technology can go a long way to effect progress — for or against — authoritarian controls. Other patterns in this New Moon that are building to release next Monday:
The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is “a muse weighing twins.” It’s fascinating to see the word “weighing” crop up in a New Moon chart that is truly weighty. What is the muse weighing? Twins — i.e., a duality — perhaps two sides of the same coin? A Gemini? To weigh something in the balance suggests a court opinion, perhaps. Indeed, Sabian Symbol sage Blain Bovee opines that the muse in this Symbol might be the muse Astraea, the blindfolded goddess who personifies justice. If only justice were truly objective, detached from past experience and prejudices — see more from Bovee here.
In the New Moon chart set in D.C., we see six planets in the 3rd and 6th Houses, focusing attention on matters of thought, publishing, foreign affairs, collective beliefs and opinions. My sense is that books, broadcasting and courts will weigh heavily on fate in this lunar cycle. You are more personally affected by this New Moon if you were born at the very end of Capricorn, Cancer, Aries or Libra. Michelle Obama and Kellyanne Conway: consult your local astrologer for details.
Back to the Sneak Peek at the Week:
And now, more news.
There were actually a few inspiring stories in the midst of the cuts and controls. First, in the language of astrology, Jupiter rules the lungs. Pluto refers to refers to regeneration. The upside of Jupiter-Pluto opposing the Sun — and sextile Neptune (healing) — is “In Astounding Test, Scientists Revive Damaged Lungs for Transplant.” It really is astounding. Also: “Oxford vaccine results ‘major breakthrough’ in fight against coronavirus.” We can only hope.
In other news:
Meanwhile…
Fox news reporter Chris Wallace is a Libra driven by Moon either in Virgo or Libra (feels like Virgo). With his Mercury in Scorpio square to Pluto, Saturn and Mars in Leo, we see the potential for depth and tenacity in thought and communication. Last week transiting Saturn squared his Venus, suggesting tension in relationships, perhaps connected to a need for a stern reality check. If you watched his interview with P45 yesterday, you know what I’m talking about. “Fox News’ Chris Wallace Finally Gave Americans the Interview with [P45] They Deserve.” P45 is also under the influence of a “get real” transiting of Saturn to his Venus (and Pluto, as you know). But he’s also got the delusional potential of transiting Neptune squaring multiple planets through the end of 2021.
In other news…
Because I had the good fortune to discover the work of astrologer Bill Herbst over a decade ago I’ve been hip to the potential authoritarian horror show humans were likely to experience in the wake of the infamous 2011-2016 series of seven squares between Uranus and Pluto. I first used the word “fascism” in reference to P45 in November 2015. And now, here we are in 2020, with unidentified federal militiamen kidnapping and assaulting peaceful protesters in Portland, Oregon — even though Oregon and the city of Portland have asked the feds to leave — and filed suit in court. Today, P45 spoke of sending these suspected mercenaries to Chicago and New York. It’s not at all amusing — and it fits the potential of planetary patterns for explosive actions and militant controls.
Still, there were a few powerful displays of resistance to these uninvited guests:
And today, nationwide:
This just in…one of those court opinions I anticipated in connection with today’s New Moon: “Supreme Court rejects Democrats’ plea to speed up P45 tax case.” What wasn’t blocked: federal executions — after a long hiatus — and last week the government carried out three of them. Harsh.
Shall we end with something light — but still astonishingly in sync with planetary patterns? We shall. So…the forecast for last Friday night was:
Meanwhile, author Susan Orlean was experiencing a couple of patterns in what we know of her horoscope (10/31/55 in Cleveland, OH). One was an exact opposition of transiting Mars to her natal Mars, suggest a potential assertion of aggression. The other was a pattern between Saturn and Neptune, suggesting a loss of focus, confidence — even a writer’s block. This is what happened: “Susan Orlean’s Drunken Tweets Were the Pandemic Comic Relief We Needed Right Now,” wrote Vogue editor Stuart Emmrich in the hours after Orlean took Twitter by storm.

Monday 7/13/2020: Sneak Peek at Big Empowering Week; Jupiter-Pluto Opposes the Sun
/in The ForecastHappy Monday — and happy getting used to Mercury’s change of station. It turned direct at 4:27 AM ET on Sunday at 5 degrees of Cancer. If you have a planet or angle around 5 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Capricorn or Libra, communication matters are likely highlighted for you this week. We now have an opportunity to review any boondoggle brainstorms we came up with during Mercury’s trek backwards. Mercury doesn’t cover new ground until July 26th, when it arrives at the place it was when it turned retrograde on June 18th.
There are only two exact patterns among the planets this week that do not involve the Moon. However, they are big. On Tuesday, the Cancer Sun is opposed by Jupiter in Capricorn. On Wednesday, the Sun is opposed by Pluto. A Cancer Sun is focused on creating security in the home, family and homeland. Capricorn is focused on the strategic organization and deployment of resources, likely to the advantage of a corporate structure.
Avid Readers will recall that Jupiter refers to collective belief systems as expressed in the courts, publishing, churches and academia. Jupiter refers to our need for reward, as well as expansion and exuberance. Jupiter is not at its best in Capricorn, a sign which rewards those who either climbed their way to the top of the mountain or were simply born there. All through 2020, Jupiter’s inclination to reward the “already haves” is pushed to extremes of power by its three-part tango with Pluto. Part 2 happened on June 30th; Part 3 happens on November 12th.
Watch for headlines involving these Jupiter-ruled concerned, especially with respect to leaders in government and business. We are also likely to see stories of power and resources (oil, gas, nuclear) and news from underground. We last experienced this news cycle in April — like this.
The week goes as follows:
And now, the news.
Reflecting what I wrote earlier about Jupiter-Pluto in Capricorn:
UPDATE: on Chief Justice John Roberts. Remember a few weeks ago we noted that a transit of Uranus to his Aquarius Sun was likely to reflect surprises and upsets out of a need for independence? Well darned if his Uranus wasn’t activated by another planet around June 21st, and he fell and hit his head. He spent a night in the hospital, and the public learned about it last week. Surprise! December is a month to watch for the Chief Justice, as Uranus makes the second exact square to his Sun.
Speaking of Uranus…
UPDATE: on Robert Mueller. Last time we wrote about his horoscope, we noted the potential for a wipe-out — in the way a wave wipes out footprints in the sand. That’s what was going on in his horoscope last year, when he delivered the Mueller Report. He has another wipe-out pattern happening this year, consistent with the more or less wipe-out of the convictions his efforts won against Paul Manafort, etc., and now, apparently, Roger Stone. But before that final wipe-out pattern occurs (not sure what month, because we don’t have a birth time), he has one other measurement suggesting a surprising or innovative change in social expression or values. So there he was over the weekend, breaking a yearlong silence by writing an op-ed in WaPo affirming the crimes of Roger Stone. He will apparently testify before the Senate — finally, as Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, is no longer obstructing his Democratic colleagues’ requests for Mueller’s testimony. Surprise!
Let’s see…what else…
It was rumored on Friday afternoon that the evening news dump would include a pardon for convicted felon Roger Stone, who lied to cover P45. Noting a forgiving Pisces Moon and a harmony between the Sun and equally forgiving Neptune, that sounded probable. Later that night, the White House issued a press release stating that Stone’s sentence was being commuted.
As it turns out, the commutation had not yet been filed with the court. And remember from last week that the second opposition from Pluto to Saturn was exact in P45’s horoscope yesterday — and that today he will have an exact square to his Mercury from Mars. Translation: anguished effort; threat of loss, followed by an attack or outburst of aggression. This made me think that the judge in the Roger Stone might take issue with P45’s effort to trump the rule of law. As of right this minute (and minutes before today’s exact Moon-Saturn square), Judge Amy Berman Jackson has asked for a copy of the clemency document. And given that Mercury just turned direct, it would not be surprising to find a defect. Stay tuned…and watch for further potential anguish for P45 when niece and clinical psychologist Mary L. Trump’s book about his dysfunctional family is released tomorrow.
In other news…
Last week’s volatile square between warrior Mars in Aries and Mercury in Cancer was reflected in a war of words about the so-called “cancel culture,” which — once upon a time — was known as shunning. “A Letter on Justice and Open Debate” — published in Harper’s — was a group effort by writers and artists, including Malcolm Gladwell, Noam Chomsky, J.K. Rowling (whose own Uranus-Sun transits are active this year), Wynton Marsalis and Zephyr Teachout. It sparked a “fiery debate” and a “blistering response from another group of journalists” said the media. Read the letter and the response in the links above — what do you think?
I suspect that this 2020 “cancel culture war” is also an apt reflection of the stress the U.S. Mercury (how we collectively need to think and communication) is under. Jupiter and Pluto are opposing the U.S. Mercury and Eris — the warrior goddess demanding a place at the table – is squaring this extreme polarization. Eris is only too happy to burn the whole house down.
OK, enough about politics. Let’s close with a stellar reason to get up tomorrow morning, brought to you by Avid Reader Katya. There’s a new comet in town — discovered at the end of March, right before the first Jupiter-Pluto conjunction. It’s now blazing through the sky — visible within an hour before sunrise. Comet NEOWISE — possibly named for a NASA program that tracks comets (it’s not quite clear) — will be around for a few weeks, and tomorrow it will be right on the U.S. Sun at 13 Cancer. Here’s another blurb on how to see it, courtesy of EarthSky. In this article from astro.com, kindly sent by Avid Reader Katya, we learn that ancient astrologers thought of comets as omens. Hmmmmmmm…

Monday 7/6/2020: Sneak Peek at the Week; Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn; Mercury Squares Mars
/in The ForecastHappy post-lunar eclipse!
Happy Monday morning!
I started writing this forecast yesterday (Sunday).
Moon entered Capricorn less than an hour after midnight on Saturday, driving the weekend with a need to Make Things Happen, all the better to enhance social status and executive authority. At 6:13 PM and 7:13 PM ET pm Sunday, Moon met up with Jupiter and Pluto, suggesting the start of an expansive power play or catharsis.
(Exhibit A of a catharsis was the sad news that Broadway actor Nick Cardero passed away. The 41-year old actor was hospitalized three months ago and fought an especially grueling and gruesome battle. He leaves behind a wife and one-year-old son. Hollywood is grieving; “heartbreaking” is trending on Twitter. Exhibit B: the Atlantic Coast pipeline project has been canceled; environmentalists rejoice!)
No sleeping in today (Monday). Moon goes void at 5:35 AM on a sobering meet-up with Saturn. We’re likely to see the heaviness in the headlines — as in this NYT report, “The Fullest Look Yet at the Racial Inequity of the Coronavirus,” in which we learn that Black and Latino persons in the U.S. are three times more likely to get Covid-19 twice as likely to die from it. The NYT had to sue to get these statistics from the CDC — and Dr. Fauci is being suppressed and dissed by governmental officials (perhaps a reflection of transiting Neptune square his Mercury, dissolving his ability to communicate.) Not only that, but (as anticipated): “Seven-day average case total sets record in the States for the 27th straight day.” And “239 scientists outline evidence that Covid-19 is airborne.”
That being said, if you’re reading this now, you are still on Planet Earth — presumably for a divine purpose, so take heart! Every problem you hold in your hand has already been resolved — you just haven’t gotten to that point in time. But you will!
At 6:08 AM ET, Moon enters Aquarius, where it travels without speed bumps all day. Aquarius is here to be of social significance, intellectually innovative and hang with its collective. Arise, go forth and RE-connect, honoring the ongoing Mercury REtrograde.
The rest of the week goes like this:
If you find these forecasts insightful and entertaining, Avid Reader Diane insists I invite you to support it. And with this week’s Mercury-Mars square directly affecting my horoscope, I’m down with this crusade. A Faithful Monthly Expression of Appreciation serves as a reflection of your most excellent values.…worth the cost of a fancy latte or modest glass of Prosecco. Personal notes of gratitude are always forthcoming — and sometimes returned with heartwarming replies, such as this one from Avid Reader Lynn:
I am honored to serve as a persistent ray of sunshine in interesting times.
Before we continue with the news, let’s talk about Sunday’s Full Moon/Eclipse. It happened at 12:44 AM ET, and from Washington DC, it looked like this:
When the Cancer Sun is opposed by a Capricorn Moon, we see a polarity, illumination and release regarding the will to establish home/emotional security versus the ambition of making that happen. How can we make this work? What and who will be used to get the job done? Never mind how anyone feels about it. The Sabian Symbols for this lunation are — for the 14 Cancer Sun, “a very old man facing a vast dark space to the northeast” and — for the 14 Capricorn Moon, “an ancient bas-relief carved in granite.” Yes, the Sun and Moon are at 13 degrees 37 minutes of their respective signs, but we always round up to the next degree when using Sabian Symbols. That is the rule, mmkay?
Sabian sage Blain Bovee’s take on 14 Capricorn — the Moon — is here and it’s deep. “Relief” may be a challenge to “sharpen awareness” and define the self regardless of identification with collective beliefs, e.g., politics and religion. It may also be a release from heavy concerns. “Ancient” suggests that current concerns are the same as they ever were — timeless and all too human. We last encountered this focus back in September 2019, when Saturn turned direct. That’s when Adam Schiff issued a furious subpoena for the illegally withheld whistleblower letter about P45’s abuse of power, which led to P45’s impeachment. It was also a focus in July 2001 — another lunar eclipse.
14 Cancer — the Sabian Symbol for the U.S. Sun — is also deep. Who is this “very old man facing a vast dark space to the northeast?” Winter, hermit and transcendence are words that come to mind. There is a sense of awareness that all of the material hustle and bustle barely scratches the surface, set against the backdrop of All That Is, as Bovee seems to suggest here. We are advised to watch for — in the next several weeks — “loners, chiseled faces; principles carved in granite…existential intensifiers; gloomy dispositions; relief in solitude; stony silences; the Mayan calendar (!); slight elevations that make a world of difference.” This is a partial list; I highly recommend Bovee’s wonderful book — and if you’re going to spring for that, but have yet to support this forecast, you may do so here.
Chiseled faces that immediately come to mind are the faces of four dead presidents carved in Mt. Rushmore, where P45 gave a mangled speech defending the rights of statues and warning against “the new far-left fascism.” He’s under especially bizarre, disruptive and anguished transits this month, as I will explain. Speaking of fascism, have you seen his campaign ad that features a Nazi symbol, along with the campaign swag that features yet another? If not, it’s because they’d rather have you focused on stones and statues. How curious to see those themes echoed in the symbols for the lunar eclipse.
I did not watch the speech, being far too entranced by the film adaptation of Hamilton on DisneyPlus. Double Capricorn Lin Manuel Miranda is perfectly cast, as Alexander Hamilton was also a Capricorn, and may have Moon in Capricorn, too — just like Manuel-Miranda.
Back to the eclipse…
A lunar eclipse suggests opportunities to release what no longer serves. If you are unable to release it consciously, forces beyond your control may take it away. Wherever 13 degrees of Cancer/Capricorn falls in your horoscope is an area in your life where you may be invited to clean house. If a planet or angle is connected to those degrees, issues related to that planet or angle are likely to be involved (in the U.S. horoscope, affected areas include money, values, self-worth, joint ventures, death and transformation). When might you expect such a release? Consult your astrologer for details.
Meanwhile, if you’ve ever been curious about the history of Mt. Rushmore, including why those four faces came to be carved into a mountain, Heather Cox Richardson explains it all for you.
And now, the official news.
Let’s start with people who made news (as anticipated) last week, as retrograde Saturn returned to Capricorn. First on deck: Kellyanne Conway, whose 15-year-old daughter Claudia made waves when her anti-P45 Tik Tok videos and frank revelations about family dynamics went viral. Wow! Second on deck, Jeffrey Epstein, whose horoscope continues to function even after death. As Saturn conjoined his Sun for the second time this year, his alleged accomplice — Ghislaine Maxwell — was arrested and charged, thanks to the efforts of the SDNY (the Southern District of New York). And what about Nikki Haley, whose Sun was also affected by Saturn. Well — she’s in the news for having an opinion about India banning Chinese-made apps, so there’s that. And a recent poll concluded that if P45 chose her for his VP pick, only 27% of Republicans polled would mind. OK, that’s giving her some gravitas, Saturn-style to the upside. Finally, a super-fun follow-up on actress Khrystyne Haje, whose Sun was affected, suggesting a potential need to stand up for oneself. How did she do that last week? She launched a website. Astrology is amazing.
Meanwhile…
We do have a birth time for Maxwell, and she is a poster child for what can happen in the aftermath of several eclipses. Here is her horoscope. Sun in Capricorn driven by a Leo Moon, needing to be loved and adored. She wears the mask of a pixie chatterbox, a.k.a. a Gemini Ascendant. Her Sun was eclipsed in December. Her Mars is at 0 Capricorn — the Aries Point — and was eclipsed on June 21st, then activated when Mars entered Aries last week. And just like that, she was arrested. Her life is forever changed. Oh — and she’s in the middle of her second Saturn return.
I’m sad to report that Carl Reiner’s horoscope was activated by recent eclipses and by transiting Mars. We don’t have a birth time, but his 29 Pisces Sun was destined to command attention — and he regaled his audience of 390,000 Twitter followers until the day he died. The legendary comedy writer/actor passed away last week at 98. He is missed.
UPDATE: on P45, because a pattern that was hot in February is back for Round Two — and then some. On Feb 6th Pluto, planet of extremes, opposed his Saturn (authority; control). This is one of the most anguished patterns one can have, like getting the Queen of Spades in the card game, Old Maid — only with much heavier potential losses. The second Pluto-Saturn opposition is on July 12th. Without getting into each and every detail, patterns between now and the end of this month are ripe for sudden upsets; smoke and mirrors; continued surreal spin; confusion/delusion (two hits); diffusion of physical and mental energy — and still more extreme efforts to establish control. Areas affected: foreign affairs, publishing, court opinions, joint ventures/investments, inheritances, taxes, core family concerns.
I have no idea if Kanye West’s announcement that he’s running for president as an Independent, qualifies as a sudden upset or a extreme measure of control…but West’s run would seem to only benefit P45, just like Jill Stein‘s Green Party run did in 2016. We last looked at West’s horoscope in 2018; Neptune is still going strong — and there’s nothing funny about it.

Jupiter-Pluto in Capricorn’s expansion of power in the extreme:
In the language of astrology, Saturn refers to hair and the color black. As it re-entered Capricorn:

Finally, a follow-up on a video by Dr. Gwendolyn Reece, which I shared a couple of weeks ago — via the fabulous Tarot Diva Beth Owl’s Daughter. Dr. Reece has profound theories on what is ailing the United States of America — and what must be done to resolve it. Her theories are deeply rooted in her understanding of mythology and democracy in Ancient Greece.
