I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Monday 4/26/2021: Sneak Peek at the Week; Full Moon in Scorpio; Pluto Retrograde
/in The ForecastAllllll-righty then!
The Libra Moon was void between 8:38 AM and 12:18 PM ET. Did your Monday morning have a twist or flake? Did you have a tough time getting started? In my own personal world, management sent an email during the void announcing that the hot water would be turned off all day tomorrow. Three hours later, they emailed to say that plan was postponed. Moon voids are good for chilling and not making mountains out of molehills. I’ve been in a planned chill to support the Covid vaccine I received yesterday. Yes, I elected a time that looked like an event that would flow smoothly. So far, so good — other than a sore arm, which dissuaded me from my yoga practice this afternoon. No downward-facing dogs today!
The Moon is now in Scorpio, waxing to fullness at 11:31 PM ET. Here’s what that chart looks like, set in Washington, D.C.:
Observations:
Here’s how the rest of the week goes:
I will add the news to this post sometime tomorrow. If you receive this forecast by email, check my website. It loves having visitors.

Scorpio bathing in moonlight
Monday 4/19/21: Sneak Peek at the Week; Sun in Taurus; Mars Pulls Focus; These Wiggy United States
/in The ForecastAlll-righty then!
Moon is in Cancer, continuing its weekend quest to establish home and homeland security. I don’t know about you, but I found myself drawn to tackle a couple of home improvement projects I’d been putting off, egged on by the proactive focus of Sunday’s meet-up of the Sun and Mercury in go-go-go Aries. The need for fast and furious thinking shifted this morning at 6:29 AM ET, as Mercury entered Taurus. From now until May 3rd, the way we need to think and communicate is slow, steady, deliberate — and perhaps just a tab obstinate, especially when it comes to preserving the status quo.
The Cancer Moon trines Neptune at 10:55 AM ET, which accounts for any spacey-ness to your deliberate focus. At 4:33 PM ET the Sun follows Mercury’s lead, leaving me-me-me Aries for mine-mine-mine Taurus. Happy birthday to all the bulls and cows!!! Now is the time to build something solid out of all those Sun and Mercury-in-Aries pioneering ideas. Tend to your garden; take time to stop and smell the roses. Spring is really, truly in the air!
At 8:03 PM ET, the Cancer Moon’s need for emotional security is challenged by an opposition to Pluto, suggesting a power play, purge or emotional catharsis. Chill during the ensuing void. The rest of the week goes like this:
If you’re enjoying these forecasts, Avid Reader Diane suggests you join her and the few dozen other Avid Readers who provide Faithful Monthly Expressions of Appreciation for these astro-logical insights. She says it makes her feel good to support something she loves with the equivalent of a modest glass of pinot noir. Thank you, Avid Reader Diane– and cheers!
And now, the news.
Last week was as anticipated, wasn’t it? Sun and Venus squaring Pluto suggested extremes of emotion and power plays. “Stick a fork in it; I’m done” is how Beth Owl’s Daughter described last week, in her always-in-sync Tarot Card of the Week. Add in boundary-pushing action and aggression reflected by Mars being literally out-of-bounds from our perspective on Spaceship Earth. This OOB Mars has been especially active in the horoscope of the United States, as it conjoined the U.S. Mars and squared the U.S. Neptune around April 9th. What does that mean? It means an awful lot of horrible and frankly embarrassing stories about gun violence, including 13-year old Adam Toledo being shot dead by Chicago police, even after complying with an order to put his hands in the air.
On the plus side of Mars square Neptune, half of all Americans have received one dose of the Covid vaccine, way ahead of President Biden’s original goal. We flew a helicopter called Ingenuity on Mars, and the Pentagon confirmed that a video of a UFO was for real. Also for real: Russia interfered in the 2016 election on behalf of the former guy, and as a result, the U.S. Treasury issued a bunch of “sweeping new sanctions“ against some of the parties involved. In other words, there was collusion between that campaign and Russian operatives. It wasn’t a hoax, not that this Forecast ever argued otherwise.
The Mars-Neptune square in the U.S. natal chart suggests that if the United States was a human being, you’d immediately notice a certain glamour and magnetism. That person would likely have issues with intangibles like movies, video games, drugs, oil, spirituality, idealism, sex appeal — and DREAMS! Let’s not forget dreams, especially The American Dream. There might be an idealization of all things ruled by Mars: e.g., guns, soldiers, courage and cars.
Yesterday’s post by Heather Cox Richardson focused on the downside potential of the U.S. Mars-Neptune square in its current stressed-out state. This downside is the persistence on the part of certain Republicans in keeping The Big Lie alive, i.e., that the 2020 election was stolen. Avid Readers should not be surprised by this development, given this forecast from last year:
At the end of Sunday’s letter, HCR asks the rhetorical question, “Where do Republican lawmakers think this is going to end?” Astrologically, if they keep this Big Lie alive, the election in 2024 could be even more bonkers than the last, given the shifts we see at the fall of that year and into 2025. Plus, the Mars-Neptune will be activated by Jupiter, which suggests big actions, assertions, aggression and faith – good and/or bad.
The Big Lie was the focus last night on 60 Minutes, as seen in its segment on the Oathkeepers, a nationwide organization of armed citizens (including many with formal military training), who are dedicated to the defense of a Constitution they do not seem to truly understand. A founding member of the Oathkeepers who participated in the attempted coup at the Capitol on January 6th pled guilty to charges last week. One of the Oathkeepers in the 60 Minutes interview called out a series of dates that were significant to the growth of the militia group, and they correspond to patterns in the U.S. horoscope during the 2011-2016 series of Uranus-Pluto squares (this is an excerpt from an early forecast):
Anyhoo.
While I was sitting at my computer for a seeming eternity today, wrestling with these heavy patterns, Beth Owl’s Daughter was wrestling with a heavy card for this week — and we both ended up writing about the same thing — The Big Lie. Coincidence or conspiracy? Beth’s post offers an honest and helpful perspective.
Meanwhile, on April 15, Heather Cox Richardson laid out the details of the sanctions against the Russians who interfered in the 2016 election. In her analysis, she hit on a key shift we expected in the aftermath of last December’s Great Mutation of Jupiter-Saturn in Aquarius: success will not be measured by those who exploit the earth and die with the most toys. Success will come to those who control networks, information and airwaves. Obviously, HCR doesn’t refer to astrological patterns. She observes that the U.S. decision to 1) pull all of its troops out of Afghanistan (ending a “forever war); and 2) retaliate against Russia through sanctions that impact access to funding suggests that conventional “boots on the ground” wars fought with conventional weapons are on the way out. And they are, in this shift from the element of Earth to the element of Air.

Queen Elizabeth II will be 95 on Wednesday. It is not unusual for members of the royal family to publish a new portrait as part of a birthday celebration, but that’s not happening this year. The Queen buried her husband on Saturday, and this was one of WaPo’s headlines: “Image of Queen Elizabeth II sitting alone at Philip’s funeral breaks hearts around the world.” That link will take you to a story in The Guardian that doesn’t have a paywall. The heartbreaking photo is the second one down in the article.
In the language of astrology, Saturn refers to loss and isolation. In the Queen’s horoscope, Saturn rules her Capricorn Ascendant. She needs to be seen as a woman in charge, and there is no doubt that she is. Transiting Saturn will oppose the Queen’s Leo Moon three times in 2021. The first opposition was on April 11th. Her Moon is in the 7th house of significant others, and it rules the 7th house. We can see how this transit of Saturn would coincide with the loss of a consort. The color of Capricorn — and Saturn — is black.
Finally…
“Bhutan sat on coronavirus vaccines for months, awaiting auspicious rollout date — then delivered shots to 93% of adults in two weeks.” As the WaPo article explains,
Given that the first person to receive the vaccine had to be born in the Year of the Monkey, we must assume that Bhutan used Chinese astrology to elect its auspicious date and time. Translated into Western astrology, there is a lot to like about this chart. How can this be? Well, it makes perfect sense if you think of astrology as a language. German and French are also languages, and it would be silly to say that German is valid, but French is not. Same goes for Chinese astrology vs. Vedic astrology vs. Western astrology. Different rules may apply, but they all make sense.
Thank you for reading this forecast. That glass of pinot noir is calling. Here’s the 411 on personal consultations.
Happy birthday, Taurus!
Monday 4/12/2021: Sneak Peek at a Revved-Up Week; New Moon in Aries; Mars-Neptune in the News
/in The ForecastGood Morning!
Power and resources are on the agenda upon waking, as the Aries Moon squares Pluto at 7:12 AM ET. Were your dreams intense?
By the time you read this, the Aries Moon will likely be void, after a pleasant meet-up with Venus at 8:04 AM ET. That’s your excuse for any slow start, twist or flake to the morning. Once the Moon enters Taurus at 1:43 PM, it activates President Biden’s 0 degree Taurus Moon, a.k.a. his need to build infrastructure that provides material comfort and security for all. He’s not the only one who can make productive use of the flow of energy suggested by this week’s planetary patterns. You, too, can make productive use of the New Moon in Aries drive that was exact last night at 10:30 PM ET. And yes, there’s still time to light a candle and set your intentions for the next 28 days. What do you want to initiate — and how will that project empower your fabulous self, hmm?
Here’s what the New Moon chart looks like, set in Washington, D.C.:
Observations:
The rest of the week goes like this:
And now, the news.
There are sooooo many headlines reflecting Friday’s square between assertive Mars in clever, double-talking Gemini and visionary or delusional Neptune. Sexy scandal and deceit, fanatics, razzle-dazzle, drugs, healing, victims, ships, oceans, martyrs, refugees, music, cars, guns, soldiers, healing and wipeouts — ranging from the sublime to the surreal– were delivered, as promised:
A Hollywood actor starred in low-budget sci-fi films. On the side, he ran a $227 million Ponzi scheme, feds say.
“2024 front-runner? Ron DeSantis’ stock soars as Florida governor turns tables on ‘60 Minutes’“
SNL captured the spirit of the Mars-Neptune square perfectly in these sketches:
UPDATE: on Randy Rainbow. Told ya in the last forecast that his horoscope was hot — and we’d hear from him this week. Here’s his latest song parody, plus, this tweet:
Astrology is amazing.
Meanwhile, Avid Readers will recall that the horoscopes of Britain’s Royal Family have been under pressure for a long stretch of time. The Queen’s Capricorn Ascendant was eclipsed last January and her resilient Taurus Sun was squared by the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction, and Saturn is now opposing her regal Leo Moon. We see stress — and potential loss — in partnerships and significant others this month, and thus the sad passing of her husband Prince Philip was not unexpected and was in fact anticipated quite some time ago. But as it might be seen as ghoulish to write of such an event in a public forum before it occurred, I refrained from sharing specifics.
Prince Consort Philip was born on June 10, 1921, at 10 AM in Corfu, as we are told from his birth certificate. His horoscope shares themes of regal discipline with the Queen, as we see in his exact square between the Gemini Sun and Saturn in Virgo. The U.S. horoscope has a similar square, suggesting self-reliance and a “school of hard knocks” approach to life. This is not a warm and fuzzy placement but can be counted on in a crisis. Over the past two years, that Sun-Saturn square was under the influence of transiting Neptune, which dissolves whatever it touches, often sapping vitality.
Like Her Majesty, Prince Philip was born with Moon in Leo –perfect for royalty. When Moon in Leo is feeling loved and adored, it beams its joy on all those around it. The Prince’s Moon is in the 12th house — operating behind the scenes — and two steps behind his wife, whose Leo Moon is much more visible in the very public 7th house. They both have Neptune conjunct the Moon, suggesting exceptional sensitivity behind their castle walls. The Prince’s Neptune is on the Queen’s Moon, often a romantic and forgiving connection, which is helpful for a fairytale prince who may not be so dreamy on occasion. His Leo Ascendant projects a commanding image, complimenting Her Majesty’s Capricorn Ascendant, which is all business — apt for a woman in charge of an enterprise known as The Firm.
If you find this forecast helpful, you are cordially invited to support it. Now is the time to become a Faithful Monthly Avid Reader or Fairy Godparent or Biggest Fan of these astrological insights. And if your response to that call to action is “Hell, yes! I love this forecast and I want Elisabeth to know I appreciate the hours of time she devotes to keeping me informed!” here’s how you can do just that — with my eternal gratitude.

Saturday 4/3/2021: Sneak Peek at the Week; Mars Square Neptune
/in The ForecastHappy Easter weekend!
Moon is in Capricorn for the next two days, so if you’ve got work to do, Capricorn lunar energy is ready to take care of business and deploy resources. Look at me, writing the weekly forecast now — instead of on Monday!
At 11:41 PM ET, Mercury leaves Pisces for Aries, where it promptly offers solutions to problems you didn’t even know existed. The end of Pisces/beginning of Aries is a prominent placement, reflecting ideas and communication — likely from fearless leaders — that even be a turning point.
If you were born with Mercury in Aries, you may sometimes feel as if you’re ahead of the curve or the pack. Mercury will be in Aries until April 19th. Note that Aries is ruled by Mars, and right now, Mars is in Gemini, which is ruled by Mercury. This rapport may be helpful for people determined to turn words into action, especially since Mars is moving fast all week, pushing boundaries in its effort to do 17 things at once.
On SUNDAY, Capricorn Moon squares the Aries Sun at 6:02 AM ET; the authority of the individual is challenged by the authority of institutions. Moon squares Venus at 10:33 AM ET, suggesting that while your Easter basket may contain goodies with a certain level of status, from an aesthetic standpoint, they may be less than pleasing. Make the adjustment and enjoy the beauty that arrives a little later, as Moon sextiles Neptune at 5:54 PM ET.
The week goes like this:
And now, the news.
From the Forecast for Wednesday:
Cue this corresponding headline:
Note that the initiatives proposed by the Biden Administration aptly reflect the humanitarian expansion suggested in the chart for his inauguration. We also see how his agenda reflects the December 2020 Great Mutation of Jupiter-Saturn at 0 Aquarius, right on his “Build Back Better” Taurus Moon. Astrology is amazing.
But wait, there’s more:
I thought about these table-turning headlines in light of Tarot Diva Beth Owl’s Daughter’s Card for last week, which was The Tower.
Also reflecting the potential of Jupiter-Saturn in Aquarius for Big Business to take a more humanitarian stance:
UPDATE: on Tiger Woods. You may recall that the chart for the time of his car accident earlier this year had Neptune on the Ascendant. Investigators say they have determined the cause of the crash, but they won’t say what it was, out of privacy concerns — a.k.a. Neptune fog.
Meanwhile, in schadenfreude…
Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) under investigation nude photos of conquests shared with colleagues at the office alleged extortion s*x trafficking payments to women using Apple Pay dad may have worn a wire, etc, etc., etc. Yes it boggles the mind, but are we really surprised? Born on May 7, 1982 in Hollywood, FL, Gaetz is a Taurus with Moon in Scorpio, probably conjunct “man on a mission” Jupiter in Scorpio. Seductive scandals, ecstasy and argle-bargle sponsored by Venus in flirty Aries, opposing Mars in Libra at the Aries Point — and retrograde (suggests a prominent double agenda in matters of macho assertion). The Venus-Mars opposition is part of a t-square with wiggy Neptune, pushing boundaries of fantasy and possible fanaticism in righteous Sagittarius. As this Friday’s square between Mars and Neptune approaches, stay tuned for more on this developing story.
In other news…
UPDATE: on the former guy, presented as a PSA. We anticipated a challenging week, with potentially daring or boundary-pushing setbacks and assertions, and there were plenty, e.g., here and here. With transiting Neptune now actively engaged with his Sun and Moon, we anticipate stories of scandal, fog, and a possible wipeout, in the way waves wash away footprints in the sand. You may recall that his campaign raked in millions in the latter part of 2020 — but in the last two months of the year, it had to issue more than half a million refunds totally over $64 million, as “unwitting donors” discovered they had been victimized by an “intentionally deceptive scheme.” Total refunds for 2020 were $122 million. Details are in the article — don’t let this happen to you. Other organizations do use similar tactics, but this one was especially egregious. Fun fact: ActBlue, an organization that collects donations for Democratic causes, is a non-profit organization. In contrast, WinRed, which collects $$$ for Republican causes, is a for-profit company that takes 3% of all proceeds, plus an additional processing fee. Something to consider when you’re giving your money away to a political cause. Ya learn something every day.
Meanwhile…
Nancy Reagan’s horoscope is hot right now, which means we can expect her to be hot in the headlines. The horoscope lives forever, doncha know. “The Triumph of Nancy Reagan: How the First Lady helped end the Cold War” is an excerpt from a new biography coming out on April 13th. Who knew? I’ll tell you who knew: Joan Quigley, who was Nancy Reagan’s astrologer at that time. Quigley wrote a book about it 30 years ago, explaining how she worked out the birth times for Mikhail Gorbachev and President Reagan and became convinced that the two horoscopes shared a “breath-taking chemistry” that could change the world. Quigley writes that she was determined to convince the First Lady to get the two men together.
There is no mention of Nancy Reagan’s astrologer in WaPo‘s excerpt. I wonder if she shows up anywhere in the new book.
In other news…
Mars square Neptune (exact on the 9th) is already sneaking into the headlines:
And finally…
Gratitude to Avid Reader Jane who followed up on the discussion of rulerships in a recent forecast. In her copy of The Rulership Book by Rex E. Bills, she discovered that cheese, cheese manufacturers and dealers are associated with the Moon (and Saturn and Virgo, too). Moon makes sense, doesn’t it? After all, that’s what it’s made of, right? Green cheese?
Thank you for reading this forecast. Here’s the 411 on personal consultations.

Tuesday 3/30/2021: Late Sneak Peek at the Week; Mercury-Neptune in Pisces in the News
/in The ForecastAllll-righty then!
The start of the workweek (Monday) was driven by the Moon in Libra, focused on a need for diplomacy and balance in relationships. Moon went void at 8:07 PM ET, on its weekly clash with Pluto. As emotions ran deep in a quest for control, catharses and purges may have ensued. A meet-up between Mercury and Neptune in Pisces at 11:23 PM ET facilitated divine inspiration and fantastic escapes — and its influence was in effect all weekend. On Sunday I found myself strumming a guitar for the first time in over a year. Neptune refers to music and other intangible forms of creative expression.
And now, the news.
Did you know that Mercury rules spiders? In conjunction with Neptune, one spider achieved mythic proportions — and it was a real one — not the fictional Charlotte of Charlottes’s Web. I don’t know why this story from May 2018 ended up on WaPo’s homepage on Friday (must have been Neptune), but I’m glad it did:
Fun fact #1: After reading that article, I retrieved my snail mail. What a delightful surprise it was to receive a birthday card from Avid Reader Karen — which included Walt Whitman’s poem, “A Noiseless Patient Spider.” Don’t you just love synchronicity? I sure do — and I loved the poem, which you can read here. Spider webs look like horoscopes, doncha’ know. Fun Fact #2: Avid Reader Karen is an artist “whose paintings transform matter into cosmic revelations.” Don’t believe me? Click on that link! Thank you for your thoughtfulness, Avid Reader Karen. You made my day!
Meanwhile…
Mercury-Neptune themes suggest drugs, the surreal, bewilderment, fantasy, fish, oceans, floods, illusion, escapism, scandals and conspiracy (webs of deceit?).
Add in last Friday’s Sun-Venus meet-up in Aries, and we get themes of art, women and money — with a pioneering or warrior spirit. SNL was on it with this music video featuring Kate McKinnon as Treasury Secretary Janet Yellin attempting to explain the surreal concept of NFTs (non-fungible tokens), their value and their impact on the art world.
Plus:
Meanwhile, on Yahoo News:
“Powell” turned up on SNL to explain her twisted logic. She does seem to have a penchant for animal prints, but in what we know about her horoscope (May 1, 1955, in Durham, NC), the only planet she has in Leo is Pluto. Think she has a Leo Ascendant? For more on the Pluto in Leo generation, SNL delivers — in this music video about Boomers getting the vax. Pluto in Leo is an eternal teenager.
Also explaining twisted logic was Dr. Deborah Birx, who was interviewed along with five other “pandemic doctors” in a CNN special. Birx’s Full Moon illumination included news of an “uncomfortable phone call” she received from the former guy, along with her belief that his administration “did not take the pandemic seriously,” likely resulting in the deaths of 450,000 of the 550,000 Americans who died of Covid. Mercury-Neptune refers to victims. Note that the former guy is entering another volatile several days of development, and we are likely to see some daring or volatile initiatives against him or on his part, likely involving publishing, courts and foreign affairs.
In other news…
In the Suez Canal, a rising tide lifted that big boat and set it free at 5:42 AM local time on Monday. Kudos to the Full Moon in Libra, supported in a Grand Trine with Mars and Saturn (e.g., the dogged efforts of dredgers and tugboats, as Time reports).
Finally…
My favorite news item reflecting the never-never-never give up potential of Sun-Venus in Aries, combined with the magical potential of Mercury-Neptune happened in North Carolina. A “sassy” dog kept “breaking in” to a Dollar General Store. His target: a purple plush unicorn. When a kindly animal control officer was called to retrieve the crusading canine, she ponied up $10 to buy the toy. Check out these adorable photos of shelter dog Sisu and his stuffed buddy, both of whom are now joyfully together in a forever home.
My wish for you is that you have in your life many people like that kindly animal control officer, who recognized the virtue of Sisu’s quest and was happily and healthfully able to help.
What’s going on in your horoscope? Do you have your very own Yod or Grand Trine? What does it suggest for your potential in this lifetime? Here’s the 411 on personal consultations.
