I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 5/24/2012: Mercury Enters Gemini
/in The ForecastNot much to add to yesterday’s forecast except mental Mercury’s shift from stubborn, security-oriented Taurus into flexible information-driven Gemini at 7:12AM ET. Review the posts for this week, paying attention to what’s been written about nebulous Neptune pulling focus.
Re: Mercury in Gemini: on the plus side: all those stick-in-the-mud types may begin to see that there’s another side to a situation — let’s hope it your side. At the very least, they may be willing to engage in a debate about it, even if it’s a theory hasn’t been concretely proven. If the stick-in-the-mud type in question happens to be you, maybe you’ll find yourself willing to consider other points of view. It’s possible that you could be weighing your options for quite some time before making a final decision — Gemini is not a sign known for rushing to make a commitment. That’s because Gemini is nearly always concerned that it doesn’t have enough information.
Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 5/23/2012: Greetings From the Big Easy
/in The ForecastRe-read yesterday’s forecast on nebulous Neptune’s challenge to the Sun at 3 Gemini, exact tonight at 4:57PM ET…followed by another nebulous challenge to mental Mercury at the same degree of Gemini, exact Friday at 5:38PM ET. If you have a planet or key point — e.g., midheaven or ascendant around 3 degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and/or Pisces, you are likely feeling this cotton candy transit more intensely than the general public. I happen to fall into this category, and today I managed to leave a iPad on an airline ticket counter and a pair of prescription glasses at a restaurant — d’oh! However, since I am oh-so lucky (and can sing a song to prove it), helpful angels chased after me with said left-behind items as I went merrily on my way. Who else has a planet at 3 Gemini? That’s the degree of Barack Obama’s Moon — and this was mentioned briefly in Monday’s forecast.
The upside of this transit is that my spirits are soaring, like a bunch of helium balloons. And I can’t think of a better place to be right now than the mystical city of New Orleans, which is hosting UAC, a big giant international astrology conference, over the next several days. Of course Venus is retrograde, suggesting opportunities to reconnect and/or rekindle past relationships, and I’m seeing that manifest as I reconnect with friends, mentors and colleagues I haven’t seen in a few years. I am also making a super-conscious effort to project warmth, charm and appreciation in every social interaction during this retrograde period and New Moon cycle. I can confirm that these efforts are not unnoticed by the Karma Police, as the quality of said social interactions has been deeper and more joyful. How about you?
With Moon in Cancer today thru 6:11PM ET on Friday, the day is driven by issues relating to emotional and homeland security, including home, Mom, money and apple pie. Efforts to hold on to something dear may be disrupted overnight, suggested by a challenge to the Moon by rebel Uranus at 10:30PM ET…followed by another challenge from ruthless Pluto at 1:34 AM ET. Or you may experience a flash of insight involving an emotional security matter — one that ultimately sets you free.
Get it off your desk today or tomorrow, as Moon will be void of course from 10:34AM ET thru 6:11PM ET. Can’t you start the three-day Memorial Day holiday weekend a day early?
Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 5/22/2012: Magical Mystery Tour
/in The ForecastFirst, a bit of housekeeping — and gratitude to the reader who called my attention to the non-functioning links in recent forecasts. They are now all functioning, and by special request, here is an encore presentation of the link to the Joan Armatrading song, “I’m Lucky” from yesterday’s forecast. There are worse ways to start the day, especially in the beginning days of new lunar cycle.
Moon is still running strong in chatterbox Gemini, focusing the day on information and communication — especially really big ideas and worldly viewpoints. Anyone up for a philosophical discussion? Depth and substance in social interactions of a most congenial kind are favored around 5-7PM ET.
Magic, spirit, healing, film, music, art and other intangibles; confusion, delusion, dissolution — these themes may run strong in your world for the rest of the week, as nebulous Neptune challenges both the Sun (on Wednesday at 4:57PM ET) and mental Mercury (on Friday at 5:38PM ET). In the language of astrology, Neptune refers to things that may not be as they seem…or a force which dissolves whatever it touches. It suggests spiritual highs and the rosiest of dreams. It seeps through boundaries. It can cast a veil of illusion over a person, thing or idea — not a bad to have if you’re an actor on a stage…a wizard…a mystic…or a snake oil salesman. With Venus retrograde, you can enjoy the pixie dust and mirrors…without worrying about making a commitment to the show at this time.
Oh — one more thing — the Moon goes void at 6:51PM ET, giving you 12 1/2 hours to cast a few spells without consequence until Moon enters Cancer at 7:31AM ET on Wednesday and demands a focus on emotional security.
More anon…
Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 5/21/2012: New Moon & Solar Eclipse in Gemini
/in The ForecastAt 7:47PM EDT the New Moon arrives at 1 degree of Gemini, along with a solar eclipse. Eclipses act as “bottlenecks” of energy. Light flowing from the Sun or Moon is temporarily interrupted, focusing attention on the interrupted point and allowing something new and possible fragile to enter the picture and grow. And here I would be thinking of Michael, the kindhearted policeman in the storybook Make Way for Ducklings, who stopped the flow of traffic on Beacon Street so Mr. and Mrs. Mallard and their brood of eight could safely make their way to the Boston Public Garden.
Of course while traffic is stopped, it’s also backing up…and when it flows again, it’s possible that some drivers may hit the gas a little too hard — and wham! — there’s a sudden release of the bottlenecked energy. If you have a planet or point at the degree of an exceptionally potent eclipse, you may feel the effects of the release of the bottleneck for months afterward — sometimes even years. And here I would be thinking of Rupert Murdoch, Rebekah Brooks and (former) Congressman Anthony Weiner, who all have a major point or planet at 11 degrees of Virgo, Pisces, Gemini and/or Sagittarius, which was impacted by last June’s eclipse at 11 Gemini. Might they have been feeling a bit “eclipsed” over the past year?
In Gemini, the New Moon suggests a focus on new ideas, new mindsets, new ways of communication and gathering information. Got that? Your thoughts and your words can move mountains; i.e., they manifest in your physical reality. Don’t believe me? Here’s an article from last week about two people paralyzed from the neck down who can now move a robotic arm with their minds. Don’t believe that thought patterns can change? Check out this collection of 23 Vintage Ads That Would Be Banned Today.
This New Moon offers us the opportunity to create a new way of positive thinking so that you can manifest a more positive reality. Don’t know how to do that? You could start by listening to this super-positive, life-affirming song by Joan Armatrading every morning. Hum it through the day and see if it changes the way you interact with your world for the better. Patterns in the chart for this New Moon strongly support visionary/revolutionary thinking and communication.
The Sabian Symbol for 1 degree of Gemini is “a glass-bottomed boat in still water”. This is an image of a self-contained, protected, transparent vessel that allows illuminating perspective into watery (emotions) depths. It’s an image that ties in nicely with the current Venus retrograde, which suggests a focus on courtesy and grace in our social expression. This image also supports nebulous Neptune, which is challenging Sun, Moon and the lunar nodes. The lunar nodes refer to the feminine and groups/associations. How can intuition, emotions and feminine/receptive principles clarify and/or change your thinking in the material world?
Interesting to note that this eclipse is almost exactly conjunct Mitt Romney’s Gemini Ascendant, using birth data of 3/12 47 9:51AM Detroit MI. This suggests Romney’s personal projection will be impacted. The eclipse is not quite as close to Barack Obama’s Moon at 3 Gemini; we may see the impact in Obama’s need to be seen as clever and informed in areas of work, service, homeland security and women. Visionary values may also be projected at this time (nebulous Neptune is almost exactly square Obama’s Moon).
This a week for big ideas! Take note of what’s flowing through your mind. And on Monday, note the potential for a clash of wills around 5:17PM ET and temper your communication accordingly.
Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 5/18/2012: Mark Zuckerberg & the Facebook Obsession
/in The ForecastInformation about worth and thinking about the way things should be could dominate the day, as mental Mercury runs wild in the materialistic, resistant-to-change sign of Taurus. And that’s where the Moon — the planet that drives the need of the day — is, as of 6:03 AM ET.
Add to this mix a separating — but still optimistic and expansive Sun-Jupiter hook-up (also in Taurus). Toss in an over-the-top waste of emotions, suggested by loving Venus retrograde in an obsessive connection with ruthless Pluto, plus an equally obsessive connection between old guard Saturn (corporations, structure, discipline) and avant garde Uranus (innovation, rebel, technology). Mix it up with the lingering afterglow of the dazzling pixie dust of the challenging Mars (action) – Neptune (illusion, ideal) opposition that’s been reflected in the news since March.
Sounds like a perfect backdrop for the most talked about IPO in history — a.k.a. the sale of publicly traded stock in Facebook. And with regal Leo on the Ascendant at 11AM ET in New York, it’s hard to imagine this event disappointing in terms of projected confidence and regal glamour. Overvalued? With Venus retrograde, perhaps. Venus is the co-ruler of the MC (public status) of the IPO chart (assuming it starts on time), suggesting it may not be “full speed ahead” as it adjusts to its new public status. And really, who launches anything on a dead Moon just days before an eclipse? Someone who has not consulted an astrologer! Looking at the chart for the launch of Facebook on February 4, 2004, we immediately see Pluto and Uranus right on Facebook’s Saturn (structure)…suggesting a disruption of the status quo & enormous effort and controls required against a threat (real or imagined) of possible loss. Let’s see where that stock is a year from now.
In your own personal world, note the inspired visions that hit you around lunchtime on the East Coast. How will they influence your management of the potentially overwhelming flow of information likely driving this day? The need here is to make visions real…and on a Friday, no less. It’s usually lovely to have the Moon in sensual Taurus through the weekend, giving you time to indulge in feel-good activities — whatever makes you feel comfortable and secure. Do your major shopping on Saturday, as the Moon is void of course from 8:35AM – 7:05PM ET on Sunday.
More on Facebook — specifically, Mark Zuckerberg (5/14/84 — time unknown — White Plains, NY). Today I was watching an interview with him from several years ago. He comes across as very calm and controlled on camera — a rock solid Taurus. But was that a bit of a stare I saw in his expression? Where was the Scorpio in his horoscope, I wondered (the “Scorpio stare” is not an astrological myth; it’s a fact).
Sure enough, Moon, aggressive Mars and disciplined Saturn are all together in Scorpio. How this man needs to be seen as a person of depth and substance, using knowledge for the sake of power and control! How he could build all the way down to hell…or all the way up to heaven! Rebel genius Uranus in pie-in-the-sky Sagittarius runs wild in the horoscope — seeking an anchor with two key midpoints that suggest a need for a strong sense of purpose and a soulful need to be of service. Ruthless Pluto — also in Scorpio — challenges mental Mercury, suggesting incisive thinking and a mind that could shred you to pieces if provoked. Driving passions…to the point of obsession? Sure, the horoscope suggests those, too. Nebulous Neptune is at the Aries Point, suggesting a need to become known for working with intangibles. Other measurements suggest an instinctive nose for business and an earthy, practical generosity.
Happy Friday!
