I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 8/21/2013: Full Moon in Aquarius and Other Revelations
/in The Forecast…and a happy, soulful post-Full Moon Wednesday to you, with greetings from Asheville, North Carolina. I say soulful because the Moon is now in Pisces, as of 12:43AM ET and as of 7:30AM ET it is exactly conjunct Neptune. Note your dreams upon waking, and be prepared to apply your energies today to making a vision real. We’re blessed with supportive aspects to the Moon from disciplined Saturn, perspicacious Pluto and expansive Jupiter today — with no Moon void to derail your efforts to move forward in a straight line. Let your intuition guide you — go with the flow!
Last night’s Full Moon was the second of two Full Moons in Aquarius, challenging us to balance needs for personal recognition and creative expression with the needs of the collective. The potent lunation occurred at 29 degrees of Leo/Aquarius, close to the fixed star Regulus, associated with themes of honor and a sterling reputation. If you have an angle or planet in connection with Regulus, much success can be gained, provided that the means to your end is of integrity.
The Sabian Symbols for the Full Moon suggest the dream of profound transformation: for the Sun at 29 Leo “a mermaid emerging from the sea”, presumably seeking human form; for the Moon at 29 Aquarius: “a butterfly emerging from a chrysalis”. Wherever 29 Leo and Aquarius fall in your horoscope, consider themes of an emerging reality; something that must be let go so that something else may live; the fragility and vulnerability that accompanies this new form; a longing for fulfillment; a heart-centered connection. If you have a planet or an angle at either of these degrees, you will feel the effects of this Full Moon more than most.
In other news, exact this morning at 3:43AM ET was the Jupiter-Uranus square, a potentially magical lightning bolt of “big picture” revelations and initiatives, reflected in plenty of headlines. Two that refer to Jupiter’s rulership of publishing: Al-Jazeera America launched yesterday, promising a truly revolutionary approach to reporting. What is it? Hard news only, baby — as in “less opinion, less yelling and fewer celebrity sightings.” What a concept. Meanwhile, a shake-up as the president of NPR suddenly resigns.
In politics, seven Maine GOP officials ditched the Republican Party. And you know the expression, “as Maine goes, so goes the nation”. Well, you know it now. And here’s a surprise: Chief Justice John Roberts appoints a Democrat to the secret court — secret, as in Secret Squirrel. Meanwhile, as expected, Bradley Manning is scheduled to be sentenced today — at 10AM, it was just announced — and I expect it will be surprising. Also as expected: the seriousness of the crisis at Fukushima finally hit mainstream papers, including the New York Times; but better coverage can be found here. Finally, in aerospace, if you’re in the market for a used shuttle launch platform, NASA is having a yard sale…
Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 8/19/2013: Revolutionary
/in The ForecastNo sleeping in late on this Monday morning. Moon is fully engaged in the airy, mental sign of Aquarius, seeking to be socially significant in a friendly, humanitarian way…or stubbornly fixated on a revolutionary idea. We’ll see how friendly the headlines — or how we might we feeling– will be around 10:10AM ET, when stern Saturn imposes a rigid control or ambition on that need for social significance. Dealing with this challenge could carry us through the day, to be worked out with inventive flair and communicated with greater ease toward the close of the business day. Note that emotional energies are waxing, as reflected by the Full Moon which will be exact Tuesday at 9:45PM ET.
Driving recent headlines is the supercharged energy of expansive Jupiter about to exactly square rebel Uranus at 3:14AM ET on Wednesday. This will complete Jupiter’s first engagement with the upheavals suggested by the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square, and it is a big component of this lunar cycle. You may recall that Jupiter squared Pluto on the August 6th New Moon. Jupiter keywords include: collective belief systems, such as higher education, religion, political philosophies and the media; optimism, benevolence, inflation, arrogance. Uranus keywords include: freedom, disruption, revelation, awakening, revolution, seismic activity (shake-ups), sudden change, excitement, anarchy, invention. Pluto keywords include: perspective, power, seismic activity (volcanoes), breakdown, elimination, transformation, corruption, obsession, regeneration and catharsis. Oh — and radiation — especially when coupled with Uranus, as in uranium and plutonium.
Jupiter-Uranus contacts suggest sudden changes of fortune (windfalls), breakthroughs and breakouts. They can also suggest inflation and exaggeration of all Uranian themes. Jupiter-Pluto refers to power and resources (think: energy & gobs of money), along with exaggeration and inflation of all Plutonian themes. Because Jupiter is in Cancer, we add Cancer keywords to what we can expect to be in focus now: emotional, material and homeland security — including food and motherhood. Uranus is in Aries — so add Arian keywords: pioneer, individual, fearless, warrior, inspiration, initiative. Pluto is in Capricorn — challenged by Uranus in Aries — thus what is challenged includes: the Establishment, corporations, government institutions, status, infrastructure.
And now, after that massive brain dump of information, a word from our sponsor:
If you find these forecasts valuable, why not consider expressing appreciation by making a donation to ensure my supply of midnight oil never runs out. Thank you for reading — and sharing — these forecasts.
Moon voids this week — to be avoided when planning important meetings, contract signing and shopping sprees — are as follows: Tuesday 9:45PM ET – Wednesday 12:43AM ET; Thursday 9:38PM ET – Friday 3:13AM ET. That’s it. No big long rest periods during business hours — at least for readers in the Americas. Much can be accomplished — onward!
And now, this collection of headlines reflecting planetary patterns. First, an amusing piece that popped up during last night’s void of course Moon (which often turns molehills into mountains of crisis). The Fairfield, Connecticut police department would like you to know that your cable TV outage is not a life-threatening emergency: please do not call 911 — apparently many people did. Second, a nod to astrologer Robert Wilkinson for bringing my attention to this CNN piece on the four essential ingredients of a successful revolution (inspired by next week’s 50th anniversary of the March on Washington — for civil rights — and Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech). You do remember that Uranus and Pluto last got together during the 60s, right? And before that, in the 1930s. This is why issues that were “hot” during those times are hot again now. Got that?
In other news, freedom (Uranus) of the press (Jupiter) is being mightily challenged. A lengthy piece about Laura Poitras — the documentary filmmaker who has been working with reporter Glenn Greenwald on the Edward Snowden saga — was the cover story of the NYT Sunday magazine. At age 49, Poitras is a child of the 60s — likely born with a tough as nails opposition from Saturn to the Uranus and Pluto. You’ll be riveted by what she has endured in her work for the past several years. And perhaps certain security officials read the New York Times, too. Today’s headlines include the news that the life partner of Glenn Greenwald was detained for nine hours while changing planes at London’s Heathrow Airport. He apparently was visiting Ms. Poitras in Berlin. His personal property was confiscated. What are they afraid of? On Friday, Wikileaks posted a boatload of encrypted “insurance files” — to be unencrypted, perhaps — if something big hits the fan. Homeland security; security controls; the ability of one pioneering individual to disrupt the established order — all reflected in current planetary patterns. Stay tuned to this channel for updates on this developing story….
Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 8/16 & the Weekend: Venus in Libra
/in The ForecastMoon is still in Sagittarius, sign of the (opinionated) philosopher-clown. How righteous can you be while still expanding your horizons? Take care of the serious stuff by 1:32PM today; after that, the Moon will be void until 11:25PM ET, suggesting a very happy Happy Hour to reward you for whatever twists and detours you experienced up until the close of your business day.
Moon enters “make it happen” Capricorn at 11:25PM ET, making Saturday an excellent day for taking care of practical chores around the house. Note the potential for the usual upsets around 12pm ET to 9PM ET, when the enterprising Moon will be disrupted by its weekly clash with the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square.
On Sunday, be very mindful of the potential for a nasty clash of wills around 2:26PM ET, as the Moon is opposed by aggressive Mars, seeking to defend its piece of turf. Chill, chill, chill…do not turn this molehill into a mountain! Moon will be void for the rest of the day, entering the next sign — Aquarius — just after midnight on Monday. No shopping sprees during the Moon void, if you please.
The most significant planetary event today (Friday) is Venus (women, art, money, beauty, social expression) leaving prissy Virgo for Libra, one of the signs it rules, at 11:36AM ET. Look for headlines involving these themes. Oh happy day, as social graces, peace and harmony once more become fashionable — at least until September 11th. Beautifying your home? Doing anything artistic or cosmetic? Working out kinks in a relationship? Initiating a project that requires great diplomacy? Great! Venus in Libra is happy to accommodate these goals.
Regarding yesterday’s story about Bette Midler’s opinionated Tweets about Larry Summers: it seems some were mystified. I suspect this is because they did not read the op-ed about said Tweets — here it is again. Point of the story was this: Summers has quite a reputation for a certain intensity and roughness of style, and we would thus expect to see certain patterns in the horoscope that would reflect these traits. The patterns we would expect to see are absolutely, totally there. Astrology is amazing! Summers is a Sagittarius with a heavy dose of Scorpio, and so is Ms. Midler. Fascinating that Summers would be the subject of her Tweets…and that we would be talking about this story on a day with Moon in opinionated Sagittarius. Got that?
Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 8/15/2013: Sagittarius on My Mind: The Ballad of Bette & Larry
/in The ForecastA rollicking good time can be had with today’s Moon in rowdy Sagittarius, even if a few feet land in a mouth or two. Sag does need to let the whole world know its opinion; thus there may be much banter at the water cooler about…well, anything, especially anything righteous.
The morning begins with a rose-colored connection between Moon and nebulous Neptune at 4:24AM ET, so do note your dreams upon waking. Perhaps you have journeyed to far-out places? Throughout the rest of the day, Moon will touch base with yesterday’s trine between mental Mercury and rocket scientist Uranus, suggesting some of the stances taken will come across as extremely self-contained, perhaps even a tad above the law — even if they are pure genius. Take note of that aspect, if you are in the legal profession.
Ship it today — or at least before 1:32PM ET tomorrow, when the Moon goes void and skips out of town early. Sounds like a casual Friday to me. Enjoy.
Meanwhile, in the news….it figures that Larry Summers, a controversial candidate for Chairman of the Federal Reserve, would be a Sagittarius. This gentleman has quite the reputation for a rough-around-the-edges style, especially when it comes to making statements about women. Bette Midler is all over Mr. Summers on Twitter — as noted in the first link in this paragraph (which takes you to NYT op-ed by Maureen Dowd). What’s in his horoscope that could reflect that behavior pattern, hmm?
How about a scathing T-square (a very tense pattern that looks like a T-square) among macho Mars opposing ruthless Pluto, with mental Mercury in (often) brutal Scorpio sandwiched in the middle. Yeah, this pattern could definitely pick a fight — and stubbornly hold its ground. Then, there’s a potentially chilly, disciplined hook-up between stern Saturn and Venus, both quite frankly challenged mightily in Scorpio, with nobody to connect with but each other. A heavy, controlling, corporate approach when it comes to administering (Saturn) financial concerns (Venus)? Really, I am not seeing any fluffy bunny rabbits in this picture. And Venus, which refers to social expression, women and aesthetics (in addition to money), is also retrograde, suggesting an emotional disconnect in relationships and/or a double agenda. He just doesn’t get it. Whose side is he on? How could he say that about women, anyway?
Well — there is one sort of fluffy bunny rabbit, in the shape of the inexplicable magnetism suggested by a seductive connection between Mars in unconventional Aquarius (the rebel with a cause) and nebulous Neptune. Oh…just hang a rose-colored fog over the whole package, why don’t you? We don’t have a birth time for Mr. Summers — born Nov 30 1953 in New Haven, CT — so we do not know if he has Moon in Capricorn or Aquarius. I’ll hazard a guess and say Aquarius — suggesting a need to be socially significant, driven by a current challenge from ambitious Saturn.
…and hey, guess what? Bette Midler is a Sagittarius, too — with Moon in Scorpio and a fearless Aries Ascendant. Born on December 1, 1945 — here’s her horoscope. That Scorpio Moon needs to be seen as mighty deep, using knowledge for the sake of power and control. Fascinating….
Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 8/14/2013: Jupiter in the News
/in The ForecastI hope your day yesterday was productive, even if a bit intense, given the Moon’s passage through the watery depths of Scorpio. And it’s not over yet. This day begins with a tense First Quarter Moon at 6:56AM ET, and for some this may present a stubborn clash of will related to the New Moon agenda you set last week. You don’t remember what that was? See the previous link for a recap. If a tough dose of reality is dampening your royal spirits today, therein lies your challenge for the next week, until the Full Moon on the 20th. This more likely applies to you if you have a planet or point around 5 degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius.
If, on the other hand, you have planets or an angle anywhere between 8 and 12 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, you may be bouncing off walls today and for the next several days, courtesy of expansive Jupiter in that area of the zodiac, supercharged now by dynamic connections to ruthless Pluto and rebel Uranus. What do you mean, you don’t know if this applies to you? Well isn’t it time you consulted with an astrologer about your horoscope, so you can be fully informed?
The rest of the day is light on planetary patterns. The highlight — as noted on Monday, is the inventive potential of a harmonious connection between mental Mercury and unconventional Uranus. Really, try thinking outside the box for a solution to your problems. Be on the lookout for revelations and breakthroughs in communication and mindset, with a futuristic and/or humanitarian angle. Speaking of which, Bradley Manning may finally break his silence and express a few words in court today, as his sentencing hearing continues…
Take a break from the intense focus of moving things forward and chill if you can around 5:30pm ET, when the Moon goes void. At 9:04pm ET, the mood should lighten up considerably when the Moon enters high-flying Sagittarius, seeking to broaden horizons and spout opinions everywhere. Walk in the woods; catch a foreign film; initiate a philosophical debate.
In the news, it should surprise no one that rocket scientist entrepreneur Elon Musk has natal Uranus square the Sun and Mercury, and that the span of that pattern is 6 to 14 degrees of Cancer and Libra. He’s been supercharged by the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square for a couple of years, and the influence will continue into 2015. Earlier this week he unveiled plans for yet another mode of transportation, a hypothetical high-speed train called a Hyperloop, designed to take passengers from Los Angeles to San Francisco in half an hour.
Expansive Jupiter’s continued contact with the revolutionary potential of Uranus and Pluto was reflected in other strking headlines. Jupiter also refers to the law; Uranus to aerospace, so it was interesting to note that the Justice Department is seeking to block a proposed merger between U.S. Air and American Airlines. Another intriguing legal bulletin with far-reaching consequences — keeping in mind that Jupiter is now in Cancer and focused on homeland security concerns: in New York, a controversial “stop and frisk” program was declared unconstitutional. Here’s another: a class-action suit alleging violations of privacy by Facebook was settled a few years ago, but the plaintiffs are not happy and now are pushing for the case to be heard by the Supreme Court. Why? Because the settlement apparently earned the lawyers millions, but nothing of value appears to have been gained by the plaintiffs.
In the category of “news from underground” we can expect to hear when Uranus and Pluto are triggered, another sinkhole opened up in Florida this week, swallowing part of a resort. And last but not least, Jupiter itself is in the news, as NASA’s Juno spacecraft officially reached the halfway mark on its journey to the biggest planet in our solar system. Fascinating to note its scheduled arrival on July 4, 2016 at 7:29PM (chart cast for Mission Control in Pasadena, CA) shows Uranus exactly opposing the Midheaven, and Jupiter will be trining Pluto. Seriously, do they consult with astrologers on the timing of these landings? Check out this analysis of the horoscope of the Mars Curiosity landing last August — there’s Uranus, right on angle. Coincidence or conspiracy?
