I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 12/18/2013: Thinking Positively
/in The ForecastA possible surprise, revelation or other disruption of the status quo may awaken some in the Americas, as the sensitive Cancer Moon is challenged by the Uranus-Pluto square. Moon connects with rebel Uranus at 6:32AM ET, then moves into an opposition to ruthless Pluto at 10:58AM ET. Themes of empowerment and emancipation – on the plus side; upsets on the down side. Those born with 8-12 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn in their horoscopes are likely to feel the jolts more than most. No exact lunar connections after that, so you can enjoy an afternoon of quiet productivity and have a jolly time at a holiday party in the evening (Moon will make contact with exuberant Jupiter after midnight).
As mentioned in prior forecasts, over the next two weeks we’ll be experiencing challenging connections between aggressive Mars and Uranus (and Pluto, too). On the plus side: breakthroughs — in consciousness, outer space and technology. On the down side: angry outbursts, erratic behavior — sometimes violent. Last time we had this pattern was in late July/early August, and on August 1st I wrote:
Apparently, a few readers thought the Hathors were cool, too. So here is the latest — channeled just before this Mars-Uranus period. This one is specifically about Fukushima, which is interesting because as expected, news about Fukushima has been cropping up whenever a faster-moving planet makes a challenging connection to the Uranus-Pluto square. Coincidence or conspiracy?
The Hathors are not happy about Fukushima. But hey — they are here to help. Check out the link above for their thoughts; I did find them helpful. Now when I think of Fukushima, instead of wringing my hands in doom and despair, I project positive energy and light. I imagine, for example, scientists figuring out how the radiation-devouring fungi discovered several years ago at Chernobyl can save the day, as scientists always do in Hollywood blockbusters. Apparently there are some scientists who are imagining that maybe we really are in a movie — or at least, a hologram. If that’s true, I’d like to believe that we do have what it takes to create a happy ending.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 12/17/2013: Full Moon in Gemini; Rebels (Uranus) in the News
/in The ForecastA superbuzzed Moon in mercurial Gemini waxed Full at 4:28AM ET, then promptly went void with a sigh. That gives us almost nine hours of time to absorb whatever illumination we received on the projects launched a couple of weeks ago. If there’s a slow start to your morning routine — or an odd twist — or a crisis that crops up that turns out to be much ado about nothing, it’s a typical Moon-void experience. You’ll feel the pull of this Full Moon more personally if you have planets or angles at 26 degrees of Gemini, Pisces, Sagittarius or Virgo.
The day will feel more “in gear” once the Moon enters Cancer at 1:17PM ET. The Moon rules Cancer, so this is generally a comfortable placement. It suggests a need to focus on emotional security — home, family, Mom & apple pie — and tonight that focus may be rather dreamy, given a harmonious flow between the Moon and nebulous Neptune. Closer to midnight and into Wednesday morning, however, the sensitive Moon clashes with willful Mars (just before midnight) and then is challenged by the Uranus-Pluto square. Themes of empowerment and emancipation — on the plus side; a jarring disruption — on the down side. Those born with 8-12 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn in their horoscopes are likely to feel the jolts more than most.
There were plenty of disruptive headlines reflecting rebel Uranus in pioneering Aries turning direct today at 12:39PM ET, and I imagine we’ll see more after this forecast is posted. First, a federal judge is thinking that perhaps what the NSA is doing by indiscriminately collecting the phone records of everyone and their dog…well…it might be unconstitutional. Then Pope Francis replaced a very conservative U.S. cardinal on “a powerful Vatican committee” with a more moderate one. This action, says the NYT, “was taken by church experts to be a signal that Francis is willing to disrupt the Vatican establishment in order to be more inclusive.” Disrupt the establishment! Thank you, Uranus in Aries (square Pluto in “Establishment” Capricorn. And just last week, the Pope was named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year — and the five runner-ups are all upstarts, too.
Yet another disruptor of the status quo making headlines is Sister Megan Rice, the 83-year-old nun who faces a possible 30 years in prison after “breaking into a sensitive nuclear facility to stage a protest.” An in-depth interview was published yesterday; she is due to be sentenced next month.
And OMG, how fitting can it be that Dennis Rodman is heading back to North Korea — the story just hit the wires. I could write a whole article about Rodman’s horoscope, but for now, here’s thumbnail sketch. Moon and Sun are both in Taurus — and doesn’t he look like a bull in that photo (see link to horoscope). This horoscope needs material security and we’d expect it to be quite conservative and resistant to change. But with rebel Uranus squaring his Taurus Sun, we’d expect him to also be quite unconventional and fiercely independent. Nebulous Neptune is right at the top of his horoscope — there’s the magnetism and bewildering aura. Who is this guy and what is he really about? His Capricorn Ascendant, along with a potent Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in the First House suggests a need for a bold statement of purpose and a need to be seen as someone who can make it happen. He means business — never mind the Neptune and Uranus razzle-dazzle. The Jupiter-Saturn conjunction is opposed by willful Mars in dramatic Leo, a placement that allows him no small sense of entitlement. The Mars-Jupiter connection suggests exuberance and an expansive application of will; the Mars-Saturn connection suggests discipline and the potential for frustration, rigidity or militancy.
Back in September I was fascinated to note transiting Saturn hooking up with Rodman’s Neptune and Midheaven. Saturn on the MC suggests being at “the top of one’s game”; Saturn to Neptune can be…weird. Puts his friendship with Kim Jong-un in perspective, doesn’t it? Next year Rodman’s Ascendant and Venus will be supercharged by the Uranus-Pluto square…and I mean all through 2014 and into 2015. I expect a dramatic change of identity perspective and a need for empowered social expression. His Mercury (mindset, communication) will be hooked up with nebulous Neptune in 2014 as well. This can be inspiring, creative or just really “out there”….this is a horoscope to watch over the next couple of years.

Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 12/16/2013: Uranus Direct; Venus Retrograde; Sneak Peek at the Week
/in The ForecastGood Morning!
Ready for things to get interesting? I hope so! We’ve got two planetary shifts and a Full Moon this week, followed by two weeks of intense/volatile action-oriented energy, courtesy of willful Mars challenging the never-ending Uranus-Pluto square. The Mars pattern will impact you more personally if you were born around the 1st of April, July, October or January…or if you have a planet or angle around 8-12 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn. But first things first.
Today the Moon is waxing full in Gemini, intensifying a need for all sorts of information communicated in a most clever and entertaining way. Emotions are building to a release — or a big buzz — tomorrow, offering illumination on the New Moon projects you launched two weeks ago. And with a Gemini Moon, that release may be all over the place. Gemini is better known for its ability to multitask; it is not known for its focus. How fascinating then, to see a big story about Attention Deficit Disorder in Sunday’s New York Times. I have Moon in Gemini. What were we talking about? Ah yes, focus.
While the lunar energy is building, two planets are at a virtual standstill as they prepare to change direction. Rebel Uranus, which has been retrograde since July 17th, turns direct at 12:39PM ET on Tuesday. Uranus refers to revolutions, sudden seismic events, rebellion, innovation, genetic mutation, accidents, aviation, space travel, technology, astrology, uranium, rocket scientists, mad scientists, lightning and genius, to name a few. So we may see movement in the headlines on these areas — and in fact, we already have. Last week, scientists announced the surprising discovery that an underground volcano in Yellowstone is much, much bigger than previously believed. China, which recently went through transiting Uranus and Pluto to its Libra Sun, has an unmanned rover on the Moon. Pretty emancipating and empowering, eh?
On Saturday, Venus will turn retrograde, impacting social expression, aesthetic senses and matters of money, art and love. Are you thinking about redecorating your home? If so, it’s best to avoid picking out colors and other aesthetic elements when Venus is retrograde. The chances of falling in love with beautiful things that really aren’t our style are higher when Venus appears to move backwards in the sky. What you fall in love with at the end of December and through January may not suit you come February. And yes, that applies to relationships, too. Gawd forbid there should be an election during a Venus retrograde, as there was in November 2010. How many of those fresh, sexy candidates turned out to be coyote dates once elected, hmm? On the plus side (perhaps), Venus retrograde suggests opportunities to reconnect with friends and lovers from the past. More on that later this week.
Get it off your desk this today or wait to ship until after Tuesday’s Moon void — 4:28AM – 1:17PM ET. The only other Moon void during the work week is on Thursday 11:37PM ET until Friday 1:48AM ET….no big deal.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 12/13/13 & the Weekend: Steady As She Goes
/in The ForecastNo exact aspects today, save for a harmonious alignment between potent Pluto and the Moon in earthy, material security-seeking Taurus. Add that drive to the lingering effects of yesterday’s Jupiter-Saturn alignment and continue building your empire. More of the same on Saturday — with no void-of-course Moon to throw a wrench into your holiday shopping sprees until 9:54PM ET. A pleasant connection between the Moon and loving Venus makes for an indulgent Saturday night.
Moon enters chatty Gemini at 1:41AM ET on Sunday, needing clever conversation and other forms of entertainment. Note your dreams upon waking, as the Moon makes a challenge to nebulous Neptune in the early morning. Thoughts and actions should enjoy a fine synergy that carries through the whole day. If that all sounds terribly quiet and boring, just wait until next week and the week after.
No Moon void on Monday means no sleeping in. Meanwhile, have a lovely weekend…I’ll post a news round-up on or before Monday….except for this: the 4th and 5th chapters of Dasani’s poignant story –see earlier posts this week for the set-up — I promise you it ends on a hopeful note….

Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 12/12/2013: July 17th, All Over Again?
/in The ForecastMoon is still in proactive, pioneering Aries this morning, but the charge-ahead drive may simply exhale with a sigh at 10:37AM ET. That’s when the Moon will go void-of-course until 3:40PM ET. Avid readers know that Moon voids are good for taking care of routine tasks and chilling out, and that efforts to push forward in a straight line are more likely than usual to suffer delays or flake-outs. Go with the flow until the Moon gets into gear in Taurus — then move ahead with your plans to build and maintain material security. It’s possible that those plans may involve Phase Two of whatever dreams you had around July 17th…
…and why is that, you may ask? Well, that’s when Jupiter, the cosmic sugar daddy, made the first of three harmonious alignments with Saturn, planet of structure discipline and ambition. It makes the second alignment today at 7PM ET, and the third will happen on May 24th. Good for business; good for solid, conservative, reality-based planning — especially in areas concerning home, family and emotional security. You’ll feel it more personally if you have a planet or angle around 18 degrees of just about every sign.
During a week with Jupiter aligned with Saturn, what could be more fitting than a list of the 25 Happiest Companies in America? A lot of things, argues this NYT op-ed entitled, “Who Goes to Work to Have Fun?”. What do you think?
Meanwhile, here’s the third installment of the NYT’s in-depth report about Dasani, the indomitable 12-year-old girl whose family is homeless — and somehow surviving — in New York. Awareness of income inequality is one potential reflection of current planetary patterns, doncha’ know…and that’s why I’m bringing this poignant story to your kind attention. As another public service, I’m here to tell you that the New York Times is running a special offer: a 12-week digital subscription for just five dollars. Really, for telling Dasani’s story, they deserve five bucks…so they’ll have enough capital to do more stories as compelling as hers…
