I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 9/15/2015: Musings on a Libra Moon…
/in The ForecastAnother day with Moon in Libra, driven by a need for social graces and people-pleasing in relationship, and for being appreciated by putting out those qualities. A planet in Libra is not an absolute guarantee of peace and harmony. What Libra suggests is a need for harmony, peace and balance. It can swing wildly from one end to another in its efforts to fulfill that need. It can also get mighty resentful when it is not feeling appreciated. So much for peace and harmony!
At 1:10AM ET, the Moon was challenged by Pluto, suggesting a potential power play or emotional catharsis. As you are waking up, more cooperative alignments to the Moon between mental Mercury and pleasure-seeking Venus may facilitate a sweet reconciliation around 6:34AM and 7:07AM ET. Be prepared for a flash of insight, a break for freedom or some other disruption of the status quo around 2:27PM ET, when the Moon is opposed by rebel Uranus.
That’s it until 12:22AM on Wednesday, when the Moon goes void with a sigh until 11:43AM ET. Your work day tomorrow may start with a twist or flake. If you happen to sleep through your alarm, no biggie. Do try to get it off your desk today (Tuesday), if you can, as initiatives launched during Moon voids have a higher probability of turning out to be of little consequence.
And now, the news.
I’ve been anticipating a weird week with no small number of communication snafus, as our usual ability to FOCUS is waylaid by mental Mercury at a dead stop and Jupiter expanding the wigginess of Neptune. Woke up yesterday to this one: “American Airlines Accidentally Sends Uncertified Plane to Hawaii” — as well as “Egypt Security Forces Accidentally Kill Mexican Tourists”. And then I decided to step away from the news for the rest of the day.
In light of the week’s potential pitfalls, I was fascinated to see the slow, earthy Page of Pentacles turn up as Tarot Diva Beth Owlsdaughter’s card of the week. Equally fascinating is the sublime synchronicity between her weekly cards and planetary patterns. Coincidence or conspiracy?
Would you like to talk about you and your unique horoscope? I sure would. Here’s the 411 on personal consultations.
Thank you for reading this forecast.
Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 9/14/2015: New Moon in Virgo; Solar Eclipse; Sneak Peek at the Week
/in The ForecastGood Morning!
By the time you read this, the Moon will have left discerning Virgo for Libra, as of 10:41PM ET on Sunday. There it will cruise without interference for all of Monday ET.
A Libra Moon drives the energy of the day with a need for people-pleasing in relationship. It is a cerebral energy that needs to weigh the pros and cons of a situation in an effort to find the balance. Generally speaking, it abhors conflict. I have seen some Moon in Libra types do outrageous things in an effort to avoid confrontation. Really, it would have been better if they’d screwed up the courage to face their fears of ruffling feathers head on.
But I digress.
Other than the Moon’s weekly clash with Pluto and Uranus — Tuesday at 1:10AM ET and 2:27PM ET , respectively, exact planetary patterns are fleeting and mild, except for the action that happens on Thursday. That’s when we’ll have a triple hit on our plates.
First, expansive Jupiter opposes Neptune. That should be an awesome aspect for Pope Francis’s planned visit to the United States. It will also be reflected in plenty of continuing headlines about Neptunian themes, which include faith, dreams, illusion, delusion, healing, migrants, compassion, oil, drugs, blood — for starters. We’ll also see more of Jupiter in Virgo themes: an expanded focus on matters related to labor, union, food and food production, diet, health care, ecology — again, just for starters.
Second, Mercury turns retrograde at 16 degrees of Libra at 2:10PM ET. BACK UP YOUR COMPUTERS NOW! Third, Saturn fiiiiiinally leaves Scorpio for high-flying Sagittarius at 10:47PM ET. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Saturn!
Moon voids this week are as follows: Wednesday 12:22 AM – 11:43AM ET; Friday 3:49PM ET – 11:32PM ET. Both of these voids may feel like Mercury retrograde on steroids. Roll with the twists and flakes, and double check everything thrice before you hit “send”. Be patient with the communication snafus, and do not hold a national election during those times!
Meanwhile…
It’s not too late to consciously set your New Moon intentions, even though the exact lunation (and solar eclipse) happened on Sunday at 2:41AM ET. Go ahead and light a candle; make a list. Around September 21st, on the First Quarter Moon, we can expect a challenge to those goals, with appropriate adjustments made. At the time of the Full Moon on the 27th, we can expect illumination on the success or failure of our goals for the cycle. If we succeeded, we can consciously release our success into our reality; if we failed, we let go of whatever did not work. After the Third Quarter Moon on October 4th, we can review our achievements, tie up loose ends and get ready to begin another New Moon on October 12th.
Last month’s New Moon in Leo focused on creative self-expression. How are you living — or not living — by being true to your heart? On this Virgo New Moon we can focus on whom or what does your creative self-expression serve. How does it function? How have you cooperated with and/or integrated it into your daily routine? Perfection, discernment, work, service, integration, analysis, cooperative systems, diet: these are also Virgo keywords up for focus and review.
Virgo rules the digestive tract, where it keeps busy instinctively separating the wheat from the chaff. It keeps elements that provide nourishment and eliminates those which do not. Some digestive systems work more efficiently than others, depending on what they are given to process. What is your process? Is it efficient? What does your gut tell you?
The New Moon happened at 20 degrees 10 minutes of Virgo. So if you have a planet or angle around that degree of Virgo — and to a lesser degree Pisces, Sagittarius and Gemini, you are more likely to feel the need to plant seeds in the areas related to that planet and where it sits in your horoscope. These seeds have more than the usual potency because this New Moon is also a solar eclipse.
If your life is on track, you may reap an abundant harvest. If your life is not on track, this New Moon/Eclipse may call attention to certain flaws, resulting in quite a challenge. This is time to consult your astrologer for details — or order an Astro-Basics Report if you want to know what degrees all of your planets and angles are at.
A Solar Eclipse can act like a “bottleneck” of energy. Light flowing from the Sun is temporarily interrupted, focusing attention on that interrupted point, allowing something new and possibly fragile to enter the picture and grow. And here I would be thinking of Michael, the kindhearted policeman in the storybook Make Way for Ducklings, who stopped the flow of traffic on Beacon Street so Mr. and Mrs. Mallard and their brood of eight could safely make their way to the Boston Public Garden. Got that?
We noted last week that both Serena and Venus Williams have significant planets at 20 Virgo, so we expect to see some activity — one way or the other — in their life experience as 20 Virgo is triggered by Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn later this year and into 2016 (by Jupiter). Let the record show that Donald Trump has his Sun and Moon at 22 Gemini and 21 Sagittarius; Jeb Bush; has his ASC at 23 Virgo; so we’ll want to keep an eye on him, too. Interesting that in 2012, Mitt Romney also experienced an eclipse on his Ascendant.
The Sabian Symbol for this degree is “a girls’ basketball team”. The opposing symbol — in Pisces — is “a little white lamb, a child and a Chinese servant,” and boy I am glad Blaine Bovee wrote a book shedding light on what these Symbols might mean and how to apply them productively. You do know how these Sabian Symbols came about, don’t you? Here is the story.
One thing Bovee notes about this Sabian Symbol pair is that we have a team allegedly working together, on the one hand, combined with three separate entities that don’t seem to have much in common, on the other. How is anything going to get done? It’s weird and bewildering — but y’know, that fits the patterns of the chart for this New Moon, so somehow it makes sense: Mercury about to turn retrograde and that exact opposition between Jupiter and Neptune.
Honestly, with Mercury retrograde, a period of review and reorganization seems in order during this lunar cycle. But you can still move forward by going back…over your old contacts and projects. A reconnection may be just what is required to get that idea to the next level.
Bovee’s bottom line advice is to approach this lunar cycle with “…an awareness of differences within so-called level playing fields; personal concerns within a cooperative setting…” (for better or for worse). This next bit is interesting, given what’s going on in the world right now, “Consider feeling strange about having to learn foreign moves in order to reach one’s goal; enormous patience while coaching others; improving; honing; carrying the ball”. We’ll watch for those themes to be expressed in the headlines.
Speaking of which…
With Saturn at the end of its rope at 29 Scorpio, I noted with interest the following items involving last-gasp efforts re: the consequences of sexual energy, for better or for worse.
First, you’ve probably heard that the House of Representatives hosted an investigative hearing about Planned Parenthood last week, as it ascertains whether it can get away with murder (Mars is in Leo) by cutting off federal funds — or at least threatening to shut down the government over it. But would it surprise you to know that in its efforts to investigate what Planned Parenthood is all about, it did not invite anyone from Planned Parenthood to the hearing? So just how stunningly uninformed are some of the people elected to the U.S. House of Representatives? That’s a rhetorical question. But here’s an answer anyway .
Meanwhile, the front page headline on Sunday’s NYT was about another matter of life and death: “a young woman’s effort to transcend death” through cryonics. Elsewhere, Erica Jong has a new book out: Fear of Dying. How interesting that Ms. Jong’s taboo-smashing book, Fear of Flying, was published in the aftermath of the Uranus-Pluto conjunction in the mid-60s. Now, in the wake of the Uranus-Pluto square, she writes a follow-up. Coincidence or conspiracy?
And briefly: 1) a federal study about blood pressure with new data that is allegedly “life-saving” reflects Jupiter in Virgo (expanded focus on healthcare) opposing Neptune (blood); 2) the NYT wonders why so many celebrity couples broke up this summer (hello? aftermath of Uranus-Pluto square plus Venus retrograde in Leo, hello????) — and obviously did not consult with an astrologer; 3) in light of Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy’s August break-up, his new flame, Denise is totally living up to Venus retrograde expectations, as the word on Twitter is “what was he thinking???”
What’s going on in YOUR horoscope? If you’re feeling a need for clarity and guidance, consider making an appointment for a personal astro-logical consultation. Thank you for reading this forecast — and sharing it with the Entire Free World :)
Astro-logical Forecast for Friday & Saturday 9/11-12/2015: Thoughts on Dead Moons; New Cycles & 9/11
/in The ForecastI don’t know how this day has flown by so quickly, but I’ve had a lot on my mind and plate — too much to post a forecast. The Moon is now in Virgo, driven by a need for correctness, preferably delivered in the spirit of humble service, as opposed to neurotic nit-picking. It is the end of the lunar cycle, suggesting we may be feeling restless or listless, as we intuitively sense that a new cycle is about to begin, but we don’t know what it is. Plus, the New Moon is an eclipse. Plus, Mercury is slowing down — about to turn retrograde on the 17th. Plus, Jupiter (expansion) and Neptune (spirit, vision, blood, healing, fantasy, illusion, delusion, empathy, etc.), are almost exactly opposed — and this amplifies the potential for dreamy spacey wigginess, IMHO. See? Humble.
Today and Saturday are good for wrapping up old projects and contemplating what you want to REVIEW during the next lunar cycle. The review is brought to you by Mercury retrograde. So clear your desk, organize your files, clean up your diet and your house.
Meanwhile, it being September 11th, there are posts all over the web and images flooding the airwaves. Some posts are questioning the wisdom of approaching this day with a mindset of “Never Forget”. So I decided to re-post my forecast from September 12, 2012:
Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 9/12/2012: Let It Shine
And for now I’ve made a note to act as if I am an exalted human being: kind, considerate, humble and service-oriented in my efforts to make things right — at least through these next couple of days driven by a Virgo Moon.
Thank you for reading this forecast.
Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 9/10/2015: Terry Gilliam, RIP — Coincidence or Conspiracy?
/in The ForecastAnother day of the drama queen Leo Moon, getting deader by the hour. We are at the end of the lunar cycle, a time to wrap up projects and contemplate the new agenda you can initiate on the next New Moon, which happens Sunday at 2:41AM ET. Yes, it’s an eclipse. No, there is no reason to panic. Just take note — and find out how that eclipse might highlight a particular area of your horoscope. That is what astrologers are here to do, along with serving as clear-headed crisis counselors offering a grounding perspective when you call them because life has dumped so many challenges on your plate that you’re starting wonder if the whole world is conspiring against you.
Come to find out, your life events are simply reflecting the challenges we’d expect you to have in a particular planetary cycle. Yes, a CYCLE…meaning that you’ve been here before and may well be here again, so let’s look at how you navigated those rapids in the past — with apparent success, since you’re still here to talk about it, right? And now you feel so much better, because in a matter of minutes, the astrologer has validated your reality and helped you plan a strategy to navigate the rapids this time.
Where was I?
Ah yes, the Moon. At 1:20PM ET it makes an easy connection with Uranus, ruler of astrology, putting a potentially innovative, humanitarian spin on your approach to problem-solving this morning. Tensions may build to dramatic action or outburst around 3:59PM, when the Moon meets up with action hero Mars, “getting away with murder” in Leo. After that and into the night, find some fun, a party or a stage. Leo Moons are grand for that, as well as grandstanding.
And now, the news.
Words as weaponry — with slice and dice edges. That’s was the potential of yesterday’s square between mental Mercury and Pluto, planet of annihilation. Donald Trump was only too happy to serve as poster child for this pattern, making headlines by trashing Carly Fiorina’s face. Yes, this is actually headline news. As you will read, Mr. Trump (and all other political types who routinely trash the copyright laws protecting songwriters), was subsequently eviscerated in a Tweet from R.E.M’s Michael Stipe for using “It’s the End of the World As We Know It” without permission.
Oh, this next one is absolutely fantastic. This astrological correlation deserves to be published in every newspaper in the world. Where is my Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting? My star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? How’s that for Moon in Leo grandstanding? Do you have a clearer understanding of Moon in Leo needs — and its dramatic expression — now? Good. Have fun with it!
As you know, Saturn is now at the very end of Scorpio — at 29 degrees. Saturn refers to time, limits, control. Scorpio refers to those nitty-gritty matters of life — and death. If you have planets at 29 degrees of Scorpio, Taurus, Leo and Aquarius, my money says you may be feeling that certain areas of your life are being mightily squeezed right now. Meanwhile, Neptune is at 8 degrees of Pisces. Whereas Saturn refers to the tangible and material world, Neptune refers to the intangible and the immaterial. Neptune dissolves whatever it touches, leaving those under a Neptune transit often feeling bewildered or wiped out. So if your horoscope has any planet at 8 degrees of Pisces, Virgo, Gemini or Sagittarius, that planet is under the spell of a rose-colored fog, and is bound to be reflected in your life according to what that planet — its house, its rulership, etc. — symbolizes.
Take Monty Python’s Terry Gilliam. At 6:27PM PT on Sep 8, 2015, Variety published his obituary. Awful news. Except — guess what — he is absolutely, positively not dead. Cue classic “Bring Out Your Dead” Monty Python bit now, please.
How could this howling error happen? Why would it happen to Terry Gilliam? Was it a totally random, freak occurrence? My money says it is being viewed as such. But where is the investigative reporter to look a little deeper? To determine if there might be a coherent pattern that could answer the question, “Why?” Not in the lamestream media, that’s for sure. And it’s really too bad — because guess what? How this freaky thing could happen is SCREAMINGLY OBVIOUS!!!!!!! in Mr. Gilliam’s HOROSCOPE and in the event chart for the moment the obituary was published!!!
Mr. Gilliam’s Sun is at 29 degrees 49 minutes of Scorpio. Transiting Saturn is at 29 degrees 30 minutes of Scorpio! Mr. Gilliam’s Midheaven is 8 degrees 19 minutes of Gemini. The Midheaven (MC) refers to career and public status. Transiting Neptune is at 8 degrees 8 minutes of Pisces, in an almost EXACT TO THE MINUTE SQUARE (90 degree relationship) to that MC!! So we have two HUGE patterns that do not happen every day, suggesting: squeeze, limits, end of time — and also: wipe out, fog and ILLUSION. Mr. Gilliam is decidedly not dead!
Looking at the event chart for the time the obit was published, we see Neptune rising in the First House, conjunct the Ascendant and square the Midheaven. This moment in time suggests the potential for conspicuous bewilderment, illusion and/or wipe out! The Ascendant is 1 degree of Pisces, suggesting it may be happening “too soon” (!!!). Saturn is in the Ninth House, which refers to publishing and it is square the Ascendant! Fascinatingly, the Moon is at 29 degrees of Cancer, exactly trine Saturn, just about to go void (one minute later) until 7:36PM PT. One can imagine the crisis that occurred when this obit hit the wires, which then turned out to be much ado about nothing.
There is much more to say about this event chart, but you get the idea. Suffice it to say that if Mr. Gilliam does not consult with an astrologer, he may marvel and wonder for the rest of his life as to why this surreal experience happened to him at this time. Or he could shrug it off as mere coincidence, missing a valuable learning opportunity! However, if he does have a consulting astrologer on the payroll, he could benefit from the clarity of perspective and validation that astrology can provide. He could have a meaningful discussion about a need for vision — spiritually and/or creatively — or a feeling of wipe-out and/or bedazzlement in relationship and career that his current Neptune transit suggests.
We would also discuss the pressure he may also be feeling about a need to focus on core family and home concerns. He’d be able to plan for a move along those lines in the last two months of this year and through February of 2016, when transiting Saturn and Neptune will exactly hit the Midheaven of his horoscope. We’d look ahead even further to June of 2016, when transiting Neptune will exactly oppose his Ascendant for the first of three passes going into 2017. No, I do not know how those needs are specifically manifesting in Mr. Gilliam’s life right now. I am not a psychic. I am an astrologer.
My best astrology teacher ever has a habit, after presenting a particularly compelling astrological case study, of summing it all up with, “I just can’t do any better than that”. He has Moon in Leo (so does Terry Gilliam), and has quite a dramatic stage presence. But on this Moon in Leo day, I can appreciate the sentiments behind my teacher’s closing statement, his grand finale.

Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 9/9/2015: News, News and More News
/in The ForecastRecapping today’s planetary patterns from yesterday’s forecast:
And now, the news.
Yesterday’s alignment between Mars (action, war, athletics, crusades, assertion, aggression) and Uranus (aviation, innovation, technology, freedom, rebellion, eccentrics) occurred in two willful fire signs — Aries and Leo. How interesting to see two aviation stories making the headlines. First, there was a British Airways plane that caught fire during takeoff in Las Vegas. Yikes. Factor in today’s dirt-digging Mercury-Pluto square and the CEO of United Airlines resigns in a corruption scandal. Just how friendly were those skies, hmmm? Depends on what you could do for United, apparently. Elsewhere, no words were minced for the former publisher of the Los Angeles Times. He’s been fired, and it isn’t pretty.
Here’s an innovative action that happened underground: in Russia, two five-year-olds dug their way out of a nursery to buy a sports car. That’s what the headline says — amazing! Elsewhere, tech titan and self-described “eccentric millionaire” John McAfee announced he would be running for president under the banner of a new political party, the “Cyber Party”.
In Kentucky, crusading rebel and county clerk Kim Davis was set free. Will she now do her job as required by the law? Whatever happens, her husband loves her. Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz love her. Lots of people love her — and looking at her horoscope, patterns between the Sun and Venus — and possibly the Moon and Venus, too (we do not know her birth time), suggest that receiving love, love, love is a theme for her right now. However, the band Survivor does not love her, since its copyrighted song, “Eye of the Tiger,” was played at her press conference. I’m seeing a pattern here….
…and I’m wondering if Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz also love Charee Stanley, a Muslim flight attendant who claims she was suspended because she refused to serve alcohol to passengers. We’ll be reading many more of these “my religion trumps your law” stories as Saturn moves back into Sagittarius and engages with Jupiter and Neptune this month and into 2016…..
Meanwhile, there was a killer tennis match at the U.S. Open between Serena Williams and Venus Williams. Serena’s horoscope is driven by a perfectionist Virgo Moon at 20 degrees. That’s the degree of this Sunday’s eclipse. Her sister, Venus, has Saturn at 20 Virgo. In both horoscopes, these soon-to-be-eclipsed planets rule the Fourth House, which refers to the mother (in modern astrology) or the father (in traditional astrology), home and foundation. It will be interesting to see how this area of the Williams sisters’ lives is affected over the next several months, as 20 degrees of Virgo is triggered by transiting planets.
I could write paragraphs about the fascinating horoscopes of the Williams sisters, in my spare time between midnight and six AM. But I need to finish preparing the fascinating horoscopes for a multitude of client consultations so they will understand why things are happening now and how to plan a strategy to maximize likely opportunities in the future. Does that sound like an intriguing discussion? Then I invite you to schedule a personal consultation.
Thank you for reading this forecast.
