I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.
Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 3/21/2011: Uranus Conjunct Sun in Aries
/in The ForecastRe-read the Friday forecast for thoughts on the shake-ups suggested by today’s meeting between Sun and rebel Uranus at the very beginning of the zodiac. Shake-ups can be positive, as in shaking out cobwebs from our minds and/or getting us out of a rut. Wherever zero degrees of Aries falls in your horoscope is likely the area of your life in which you might be experiencing shake-ups — or seeking liberation. Consult your local astrologer for details.
It’s another work week of full-speed ahead. Mars, planet of action, aggression (and war!), continues to run wild today. Channel your enthusiasm productively and the sky’s the limit. We’ve got a brief Moon void from 2:35 – 3:17 PM EDT, after which the Moon leaves cerebral Libra for moody Scorpio, a sign which demands substance, not theory. That freedom you’re seeking? Deep down, you know what you have to do…
Courage, self-reliance, inspiration and a pioneering spirit are keywords for the beginning of the astrological new year, the time when the Sun is in Aries, sign of the ram — and the lamb. In the Northern hemisphere (the birthplace of Western astrology), it is a time of renewal and rebirth — a chance to let go of old patterns and make a fresh start. Happy Monday!
Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 3/18/2011 and the Weekend: Happy Vernal Equinox 2011!
/in The ForecastTGIF, you say? Finding peace and quiet over the weekend — certainly in the headlines — could be a bit of a challenge. Moon is in precise, perfecting Virgo on Friday, working to bring order out of chaos and overcome whatever possible obstacle is dropped on our desks in the AM. Take the time to think it through, as opposed to reacting defensively.
Saturday through Monday might be exciting and/or disruptive. The Full Moon on Saturday is quite potent — at 29 degrees of Virgo opposing the Sun at 29 degrees of Pisces, the same degree status quo-disrupting Uranus was at on March 10th. I’ll be watching headlines in Japan and the Middle East. After a two hour void, Moon enters people-pleasing Libra at 4:03PM EDT, raising our awareness of our need to relate, perhaps creating a conflict with other needs to be free. Compromise, anyone? Perhaps not.
Sun enters Aries on Sunday at 7:21PM EDT, officially marking the first day of Spring, the beginning of a new cycle and the possibility for a big cosmic, seismic or consciousness shift. But wait — there’s more: Sun meets up with rebel Uranus at the Aries Point (remember the forecasts I posted earlier this month about the Aries Point and why it is so sensitive and significant?) Monday at 8:25AM EDT. In your own personal world, what state of independence and innovation are you about to declare? Take the leap, have courage, be a pioneer. Excitement can be a positive thing! In world affairs, I will be surprised if someone or someplace isn’t shaken up over the weekend by rebellions, accidents or wicked weather.
In Los Angeles, the actual weather forecast for Sunday and Monday calls for rain, which appears to be supported by nebulous Neptune and Mars in watery Pisces. But rain in LA can be wicked. Be careful on the roads, wherever you may be driving this weekend. One more thing: Mercury turns retrograde March 30th. Back up your computer today.
Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 3/16/2011: How to Handle Moon in Leo
/in The ForecastAfter the Moon void ended at 3:33 PM EDT yesterday, you may have noted a decidedly fiery shift in mood, as Moon entered Leo, a sign that needs to loved and adored (if you’re involved with someone with Moon in Leo, do tell them how fabulous they are several times a day — that’s your key to making that relationship a success).
We also had an enthusiastic, inspirational connection between Mercury (mind) and Jupiter (expansion) in pioneering Aries, perhaps leading us to think big, optimistic thoughts — never mind those pesky details.Today we have more potential for exuberance in your own personal world — hopefully of the constructive kind, not the irrational. Other than the potential for encounters with certain Leonine drama queens, the aspects today are pretty darn positive.
Meanwhile, in Japan… As is often the case with the charts of nations, there are several horoscopes in use; the one for modern Japan preferred by my mentor is November 3, 1946 at 8:30 AM in Tokyo –this is the horoscope for the official birth of the Constitution. It’s interesting to see status-quo disrupting Uranus making an exact connection to the this chart’s Sun/Moon midpoint (for civilians: this is an especially sensitive point in a horoscope, as advanced students of astrology will appreciate) at 29 Pisces; note that 29 Pisces is in a challenging square to that potent lunar eclipse at 29 Gemini-29 Sagittarius on the 2010 Winter Solstice (12/21/2010 — if you want to review that forecast). Note that 29 Pisces will be triggered again by the Full Moon on the 19th; now is a good time to send calm, healing thoughts across the Pacific — if you happen to believe that such thoughts can be beneficial.
It would also be a reeaalllllly good time for the whole planet to get serious about safe, sustainable energy resources and our (rusting, rotting) infrastructure, as suggested by current challenges to Pluto (radiation, resources underground) in Capricorn (government institutions). 2012-2015 is just around the corner… …and hey! so is Spring! : )
P.S. I’ll be back on the air this Thursday at 9PM PDT — guesting on “Get Real” with Shaman Durek — we’ll be talking astrology, taking calls and all kinds of fun stuff: http://www.indie1031.com/include.php?pageid=%2Fshows%2Fget-real.asp
Astro-logical Forecast for Monday and Tuesday 3/14-15/2011: Uranus at the Aries Point
/in The ForecastScanning Sunday’s headlines for items manifesting as anticipated (revelations of corruption in the system, words spoken that can’t be taken back and more news from underground) and we find the following: a State Dept official resigns under pressure over his brutally candid opinion regarding the treatment of Bradley Manning http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/13/state-department-spokesman-out-after-comments-on-prisoner/?scp=1&sq=crowley+resigns&st=cse; the hacker group Anonymous is set to release documents alleging fraud on the part of Bank of America http://www.zerohedge.com/article/hacker-collective-anonymous-release-documents-proving-bank-america-committed-fraud-monday; the lost city of Atlantis may have been found http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/13/atlantis-found-lost-city-discovered_n_835088.html
Of course, there is the continuing story of the 9.0 (!!!) quake and tsunami in Japan. Astrologers have been anticipating big changes reflected by the planet Uranus moving into Aries, and big changes we are seeing: as a result of the quake, the Earth’s axis and the coastline of Japan were dramatically altered — just like that: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/14/world/asia/14seismic.html?hp
Earthquakes are often connected to the planet Uranus; radiation is connected to Pluto. You may recall the Jupiter-Pluto square I wrote about on February 25th, suggesting this would be a time when energy resources would be up for evaluation. What do you think? Should we build more nuclear plants or should we explore other sources of energy? “Are US Nuclear Reactors Safe” http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2011/03/13/japans-nuclear-crisis-lessons-for-the-us?hp
Today Moon continues its sojourn through Cancer, a placement that needs to establish emotional and home security. With this in mind, I am thinking it would be nice if certain journalists could kindly delete the words “FEARED” and “FEAR” from their collective vocabulary. Surely there must be a way to communicate news without contributing to collective anxiety. Emotions may well continue to run high this morning; hopefully giving way to a more stable, sober connection between Venus (love, money, art) and Saturn (necessary controls) later this afternoon. This should prove helpful to the people of Japan, as they must adapt to rolling blackouts; a friend who lives outside Tokyo reports the power outages are “paralyzing traffic” as citizens strive to do business as usual with reduced energy consumption; he also writes quite matter-of-factly that this shared sacrifice is necessary, as the burden of the quake’s damage must be carried by all Japanese citizens.
Tuesday we’ve got a break — the first in many days — in the form of a void-of-course Moon from 6:05AM – 3:33PM EDT. If it has to ship, get it off your desk today or tomorrow after the void. East Coasters, you’ve got almost a whole day to chill, float, brainstorm, avoid impulsive shopping sprees, watch as meetings are canceled or people — perhaps even you, flake out. Wait to act on your big, inspired, pioneering ideas when Moon enters regal Leo at 3:33 PM EDT.
In other news, I’m still in Los Angeles — here until the 23rd — with more in-person appointments available, now that I’ve extended my stay. Looking forward to being of service : )
Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 3/11/2011 and the Weekend: More on Uranus in Aries
/in The ForecastThe big news in the astrological world is the planet Uranus moving into Aries at 7:52PM EST today. Uranus is the shock to the system, the disruption to the status quo, genetic mutations, genius, innovation, technology…and yes, earthquakes are also connected to Uranus. And the last degree of Pisces/first degree of Aries is a highly sensitive, proactive placement (“the Aries Point) that tends to bring prominence to whatever planet is sitting on it. And with all the build-up and buzz in the astrological community about this erratic planet completing an 84 year cycle and being “born again”, I’m not surprised to see a “megaquake” and a tsunami dominating the headlines today (“Huge Quake Trigger Tsunami Off Japan’s Coast”, for those living under a rock http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/12/world/asia/12japan.html?ref=global-home Stunned and humbled by its magnitude, yes. But surprised — no.
It’s been a while since I’ve mentioned this, but now would be an excellent time to check the supplies in the emergency kits I know you keep in your home, office and in your car. You do have these kits handy, don’t you? First aid, fresh water and batteries, duct tape — those sorts of things. And don’t say “it can’t happen here” – in the past several months we’ve had tornadoes in Queens and blizzards in Atlanta. We live in exciting times –please plan accordingly.
Expect an absolute buzz of information today. Moon is in chatty Gemini, determined to keep us informed. If it’s too much for your system, eat some potatoes. That’s actually an old wives’ remedy for staying grounded during an eclipse, but it can’t hurt here. Saturday the Gemini vibe continues, introducing the first challenge to your New Moon agenda, which involves devising a strategy for a sense of belonging — and determining exactly to whom and to where.
Sunday may be emotionally challenging. Moon will be in home security-loving Cancer as of 10:29AM EST, after a measly 75 minute void/time out. It gets a jolt from Uranus in the AM and a potentially moody bastard power play from Pluto in the late evening hours…and in between that we’ll see a challenge to Mercury (mind, communication, travel) in impulsive, feisty Aries from ruthless, cut-to-the-quick Pluto. I urge you to count to ten before you let loose with words that can’t be taken back. Watch for scenarios of words gone wild in the headlines, as well as more revelations on corruption in the system, “my way or the highway” stances and/or cuts straight to the core. Can we all see clearly now?
Thanks to all who listened to “Get Real” with Shaman Durek on Indie 103.1 last night. I’m thrilled to be invited back on the show next Thursday — it’s so much fun taking calls and talking about astrology! That means I’ll be extending my stay in Los Angeles for a few more days. If you’d like to book an in-person consultation in LA, operators are standing by. I’ll post a link to last night’s broadcast shortly : )
