I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.
Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 6/14/2011: The Republican Presidential Candidates, Briefly
/in The ForecastIn your own personal world, today’s Moon in optimistic Sagittarius, a sign that needs to tell the world its opinion on everything, could lift your spirits higher than the recent moody bastard Moon in Scorpio vibe in effect until 10:38PM EDT last night. Or it could add hot air to a simmering situation.
The Moon is waxing full — and will be exactly full Wednesday at 4:14PM EDT, coinciding with an especially long total eclipse. Emotions — and opinions — may well run high. Release of whatever is not working likely arrives after this especially potent Full Moon, which I’ll write more about tomorrow.
Yesterday’s debate among the Republicans who (so far) would be President happened during a void of course Moon, which suggests it was of no consequence. Perhaps the serious contenders haven’t joined the party yet. But a look at the horoscopes of these contenders reveals some interesting patterns. The dominant element of their respective Suns and Moons is Fire. Cain is a Sag with Moon likely in me-first Aries. Pawlenty is a Sag with Moon either in Aries or Pisces. Bachman is an Aries with Moon in (needing to be) socially significant Aquarius. Gingrich is a Gemini with Moon in Sag. Ron Paul is a Leo with Moon in Taurus, suggesting a need to make things “the way they should be”. Santorum is a Taurus with Moon in Aquarius, fixed in his ways — as is Paul. Mitt Romney stands out with Sun and Moon both in Water Signs: Sun in Pisces; Moon in Scorpio.
I’d write more, but I’m traveling today. To be continued…
Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 6/13/2011: Saturn Turns Direct in Libra
/in The ForecastMonday begins with Moon still in Scorpio, where it makes a potentially combative connection to aggressive Mars at 1:43PM EDT and then goes void until 10:38PM. Try to play nice with your toys today, and take care of essential business before the void if you can. When Moon shifts into fiery Sagittarius, the mood should lift noticeably.
Highlight of the day is Saturn, planet of ambition, structure and control moving direct as I type this on Sunday at 11:52PM EDT. Saturn has been retrograde for five months and perhaps put a hold on your personal business endeavors. Here’s what I wrote about the retrograde on January 26th — how did it turn out for you?
• “Saturn, planet of ambition turns retrograde at 18 degrees of Libra at 1:11AM NY time until June 12th. The Sabian Symbol for 18 Libra is “two men under arrest” — suggesting, writes Blain Bovee, the Sabian Symbol Specialist I’ve often cited in this forecast, “a manifestation of irreconcilable differences”….hmmm…such as three Supreme Court Justices recusing themselves from SOTU? http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2011/01/justices-alito-scalia-thomas-to-skip-state-of-union-address/1 Bovee continues, ” there is a tendency to dig in rather than to negotiate. negotiation may seem impossible, plus the ‘other side’ is just as intractable in their beliefs.”‘
Saturn turns direct at 11 degrees of Libra. The Sabian Symbol is for this degrees is “a professor peering over his glasses” Bovee writes, “Strangely, when optical instruments used to assist vision are set aside, only then can one see clearly eye-to-eye…The urge tends to be for major changes in how relationships function and a face-to-face, eye-to-eye, encounter may be in the offing. This does not guarantee a positive outcome, but it certainly promotes authentic and real relating.”
Well, that certainly suggests movement, in one direction or another, as well as a confrontation that perhaps has been avoided. On the plus side, we can expect projects put on hold over the past five months to gain traction. Wherever Saturn falls in your horoscope is the area of life you may find moving forward again. If you were born on the first or second day of April, July, October or January, you have likely been feeling Saturn’s challenge of serious focus for the past several weeks, to be continued until July 18th.
If you were born Oct – Dec 1981 or May- Aug 1982, you are having a Saturn return. This is a critical time in your life development; everyone goes through it around age 28/29. Pay attention to the sense of urgency you’re likely to be feeling. In what ways are you intent on establishing yourself in the material world? Are you thinking of changing careers? Getting married? Going back to school? What is the reach for ambition?
If you were born between Dec 1951- April 1952 or between Aug – Nov of 1952, you are also having a Saturn return. At this point in life, you may find yourself wanting to turn away from the material world. Having realized ambition during the past 28 years, nourishing the soul may now become more important. This can be a very good thing, even if other things have to be let go.
The United States is also going through a Saturn return, suggesting a review of priorities established at the beginning of Ronald Reagan’s first term. The third and final hit of the return happens mid-August…
Astro-logical Forecast for Sunday 6/12/2011: Postcards from the Void
/in The ForecastEven astrologers need a break from the daily grind. After posting Thursday’s forecast at the town library in a rural Maine outpost, I put my astrological calendar away and decided to freewheel it. I spent Friday at Best Buy with the proprietors of my cabin-in-the-woods retreat, researching computers and communication devices needed to bring them into the second decade of the 21st Century. Turned out to be a fine application of the serious focus suggested by this week’s Mercury (mind, communication) trine from practical Saturn, as well as yesterday’s hook-up between Saturn and Moon. True to the Libra Moon’s spirit, we debated the pros and cons that evening and reached a decision on what to purchase, and vowed to return the next day to get the goods.
We bought the computer and mobile wifi thingamajig (actual technical term) as planned, and both are fabulous, though it seemed to take hours to get out of the store. However, another gizmo — an impulse purchase — I thought I needed to transfer data from the old computer to the new one turned out to be the wrong gizmo. And it took us half an hour to figure out how to turn the mobile wifi thingamajig off; I was seriously thinking it was defective and would have to be returned. I actually placed a phone call to the service provider for assistance. Some days you need extra help with an on/off switch — d’oh!
But hmmm…impulse purchases that prove unsatisfactory; sudden crises that turn out to be “much ado about nothing” — what was happening among the planets on Saturday? Can you guess? Indeed, the Moon was void of course from 4:04AM until 8:33PM EDT, as I discovered just minutes ago. Coincidence or conspiracy?
Moon has now entered the intense sign of Scorpio, shifting the emotional tone of the past couple of days from airy to watery. Scorpio needs to go deep in its quest for knowledge for the sake of power and control. Sunday and Monday that quest is supported by an equally intense, informative hook-up between Mercury (mind, communication) and the Sun in pixie-ish chatterbox sign of Gemini. Add idealism to that Mercury-Sun connection and watch the headlines for the most creative spin. What bright ideas do you have today? Write them down, especially if you are artistically inclined. Talk about them. Get out and mingle. You might meet a real maverick type — or read about them in the headlines. Innovative Uranus in a supportive connection to Venus, planet of art, money, beauty and love favors encounters of the unusual — but stimulating kind. Let these planetary connections carry you through the next few days.
Just before midnight — at 11:52PM EDT Sunday — Saturn turns direct. More on that in tomorrow’s forecast.
Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday & Friday 6/9-10/2011: More on Congressman Anthony Weiner
/in The ForecastAs I advised earlier this week, Moon went void in Virgo at 4:13AM EDT — not to enter the next sign, Libra, until 6:31PM EDT. For East Coasters, this suggests a day to chill, brainstorm, take care of that which is routine (with Virgo, you could go nuts cleaning and/or organizing). It does not suggest panic, although the likelihood of someone flipping out over an imagined crisis (that turns out to be nothing of consequence), is increased during Moon voids. If you are challenged to move in a straight line today, just be mindful that you may encounter a twist, a flake or otherwise find yourself somewhat off course. See where it takes you.
My Moon void began with the realization that the technology I brought with me to an undisclosed rural Maine location does not support posting the daily forecast, and the only car available to take me into town had been driven to a golf course. OK, fine, there are worse commutes than walking two miles down a country road. Off I went, and after a mile or so, a passing car gave me a lift to my final destination, the local library. The resident library cats here are curious and affectionate, excellent company, and highly effective mousers. So yes, the forecast is late, but all in all, this break in routine has been refreshing and restful. May you have a similar peaceful break today!
At 6:31PM EDT Moon enters socially-conscious, people-pleasing Libra, where it makes an immediate happy connection with loving Venus. Grab your rose-colored glasses, as the planet of love, beauty and money is also challenged by nebulous Neptune, exact at 4:25AM on Friday. If those rose-colored glasses turn out to be beer goggles, don’t say you weren’t warned. Under the influence of Venus-Neptune aspects transcendental, story-book connections can happen. They can also fade away in harsh light of reality. Artistic and spiritual vision can also be stimulated, so this is good news for creative types — and may be good news for your local con man.
Up in rural Maine, there is no sign of Congressman Anthony Weiner in the local paper. Instead I’m looking at a front-page article commemorating a teacher’s 40+ years of service. And on this Page 6, an exciting piece about a reporter’s daring rescue of four abandoned baby raccoons. But I see from the NY Times and other sources that l’affaire Weiner is still hot. When I was looking at the Congressman’s chart a couple of days ago, tracking patterns that reflect this unfortunate event in his life, I could not help but notice not one, but multiple measurements that suggest the period of 2008 (that’s as far back as I looked) up to now was generally a time of great fulfillment and joy in his personal life. Even without an exact birth time (which we need for rising sign and midheaven), there are enough connections between Sun and Venus — as recently as March 2011 — that would likely be reflected as a happy time for marriage — and yes, the birth of a child. And yesterday it was revealed in the New York Times that Weiner’s wife is….pregnant.
Drilling down even deeper, I examined aspects between planets and the midpoints among planets. In November of 2009, we see an arc between disruptive, risk-taking Uranus and the midpoint of loving Venus and horny Mars which translates, according to Noel Tyl’s outstanding reference texts as “intense passion; high nervous involvement with things sexual; sexual experimentation; dangerous liaison.” Weiner reportedly began his sexting adventures three years ago. His horoscope strongly suggests a need for risk and excitement. Makes me wonder what others born around September 4, 1964 have been doing in their spare time…
Life is complicated and filled with contradictions. Planetary patterns reflect life. Was it inevitable that this unfortunate series of events would happen in Weiner’s life? I would argue it wasn’t inevitable. But his horoscope suggests a vulnerability to such events. And maybe, just maybe…if Weiner were aware of this vulnerability beforehand, he might have used his awareness and free will to make more empowering choices under clear-as-day times of stress. That’s one way astrology can be of service.
Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 6/8/2011
/in The ForecastInformation and organization, driven by a quest for perfection. Still sorting things out from yesterday? Today offers more of the same, plus a challenge to your New Moon agenda by the First Quarter Moon squaring the Sun at 10:11PM EDT. How far have you shifted from your comfort zone over the past week? Need to make any adjustments? Go a little further? Hmmm.
Have faith. Seriously. After all the information minutia overload likely flying around all day, an exact connection between nebulous Neptune in soulful Pisces and expansive Jupiter in steady Taurus encourages dreams, spirit and vision at 10:42PM EDT — and y’know, you may find this aspect cutting through the TMI even earlier — a welcome relief from any yadda yadda yadda.
