I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.
Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 11/1/2011: The Curious Case of Jon Corzine & MF Global
/in The ForecastAn interesting mix of practical, proactive, get-down-to-business strategies, contrasted with an intangible vibe that suggests visionary inspiration, on the one hand, or muddled mental and/or mechanical states, on the other. Why? Moon in Capricorn needs to make things happen, and nebulous Neptune challenging Mercury (mind, communication, machines) can make that Kool-Aid look awfully good.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_jones With Neptune, one must always be aware that things may not be what they appear to be. So far my Neptune-Mercury muddled experience has been limited to an edit session in which we had to feed a spot four times before we got the tech settings right. And everyone in the room was a trained professional. Go figure.
At 5PM ET, Moon goes void for an hour, then heads into the humanitarian sign of Aquarius, where it needs to be socially significant and network. So if your evening or late afternoon includes those kinds of activities, you should be well-supported. At a time when nebulous Neptune energy is pulling major focus in the heavens — to Venus (which refers to money), as well as Mercury, I am intrigued to note the story of Jon Corzine’s company, MF Global, dominating the headlines — at least in the financial sector. http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2011/10/31/regulators-investigating-mf-global/?hp, Briefly, word on the street is that Corzine, who used to run Goldman Sachs and was Governor of New Jersey (he was defeated in his bid for re-election last year), made a big bet on the European sovereign debt — and it hasn’t gone well. The company was leveraged for much more capital that it actually had on hand; the stock plummeted last week and yesterday, the company filed for bankruptcy after a deal to save it fell apart…and one reason was that hundreds of millions of dollars of customer money could not be accounted for. Now you see it — now you don’t — poof! What was apparently a beautiful illusion is now a quagmire of confusion.
Looking at the horoscope of Jon Corzine — 1/1/1947 in Taylorville, IL (time unknown) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Corzine, we find an intriguing mix of practicality and vision/illusion, very similar to the energies of the day. Sun and Mars are hooked up in make-it-happen Capricorn, exactly challenged by — (cue “Shock Horror Riff #5”) — nebulous Neptune. Wow! That can be pretty visionary or just plain fantastic. Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck have similar patterns. Newt Gingrich has the Neptune-Mars square; Barack Obama has the Neptune-Sun square.
Corzine’s Moon in Aries suggests a need to be Number One — and that sure fits. I suspect that controlling Saturn has recently thrown a wet blanket on that driving need for self-importance (Saturn is now in Libra, probably opposing that Aries Moon). Also of interest is — again! — nebulous Neptune, currently challenging Corzine’s Venus, which is arguably a wonderfully inspiring, visionary transit for an artist, healer or spiritual type — but also arguably a red flag for someone who works with MONEY, where faith in the intangible may not be so wise. I will be interested to see where Corzine is at this time next year, when status quo-disrupting Uranus and ruthless, transformational Pluto exactly challenge Corzine’s Sun, Mars and Neptune. It would appears that the drama is just beginning…
Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 10/31/2011: A Practical, Magical Halloween!
/in The ForecastMonday’s baaaaack…time to make the doughnuts with Moon continuing thru the practical, pro-active, get down to business sign of Capricorn, the crusty old Goat. No Moon voids during business hours all week, either — save for one hour between 5-6pm Tuesday — blink and you’ll miss it. So tackle your chores and responsibilities with a vengeance.
The potential for beautiful fantasy or other rose-colored escapism rules on All Hallow’s Eve, suggested by a dynamic connection between nebulous Neptune and art & beauty loving Venus. I expect to see some truly fabulous costumes — let your imagination run wild. You can rose-tint your world from now until Tuesday, as mental Mercury is also challenged by nebulous Neptune. This suggests double checking EVERYTHING twice and being mindful of those who promise more than they can deliver. But if you’re looking for a vision or a visionary in the next couple of days, chances are you won’t have to look far. Music, spirit, soulful mingling and other intangibles…enjoy.
Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 10/28/2011 & the Weekend: Thinking Big
/in The ForecastIf you’re trying to regain consciousness between 7:49AM and 10:45AM ET, you might be inclined to take it slow, as the Moon is void of course. Sleeping late, being alert to twists or alleged “crises” (that turn out to be overwrought), indulging in a meditative activity like yoga or creative brainstorming are favored; launching an important initiative is not.
When Moon enters the expansive, galumphing fiery sign of Sagittarius at 10:45AM, you might find yourself driven to opine — or surrounded by those who are. Go ahead and pick up that phone. At 11:08AM ET the highly charged challenge between Mercury (words) and Mars (action) is exact — read yesterday’s forecast for details and an advisory on the potentially combative nature of this connection. The potent trine between expansive Jupiter (collective philosophy) and regenerating, transformational Pluto puts resources of all kinds — especially hidden resources brought to light — front and center and in the news. What overlooked, undervalued resource might you discover today?
A smooth connection from rebel Uranus to the Moon adds an innovative, humanitarian spin around lunchtime on the East Coast, and as the day moves into night, the bigger, more expansive (and expensive) the idea, the better, suggested by a bold challenge to the Sun from Jupiter, the cosmic sugardaddy, exact at 9:42PM ET. If the mood feels rowdy, especially on the streets, I won’t be surprised.
Moon continues through Sagittarius until 12:39PM Sunday, with a brief, sleep-in-late void from 9:31AM to 12:39PM (no shopping, no yard sales). It’s a great time to broaden your horizons, explore a new neighborhood, take a walk in nature, see a foreign film, take a class or take in a show and wax philosophical. At 12:39PM ET on Sunday, a more practical, proactive thrust takes over, suggested by the Moon’s ingress into make-it-happen Capricorn. That project you’ve been meaning to do around the house? That would work. Be mindful of the potential for a disruptive or illuminating jolt, followed by a territorial battle for control as the afternoon moves into evening.
And now, an op-ed which includes elements suggested by today’s planetary patterns: a foreign, innovative “big picture” opinion on managing collective resources — right on the front page of the New York Times. Huzzah! One reason I like writer/economist Paul Krugman is that he is keenly aware that patterns we are seeing now are similar to patterns in the 1930s, and this is certainly true when it comes to planetary patterns. Plus, statistics show that he gets it right more often than the rest.
Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 10/27/2011: “If I Be Waspish…”
/in The ForecastMoon continues its sojourn through moody bastard Scorpio, and frankly, you may encounter — or witness — a bit of jagged sparring over control of space, both physical and emotional, as Mercury (mind, communication) is challenged by Mars, perhaps seeking to lord it over whomever. Is it therefore a coincidence that we are seeing violent efforts to disband OWS protesters in certain cities http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/27/us/oakland-and-other-cities-crack-down-on-occupy-protests.html?ref=us In your own personal world, think twice before you snap at anyone today, as the odds are good that they will snap back. Add a bit of strategy, consideration and consciousness to your communication, and you could express the same drive in a passionate, yet effective presentation.
Aspects in the chart of yesterday’s New Moon continue their resonance over the next couple of days and are reflected in these headlines: news from underground related to oil/gas here http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/27/nyregion/gas-pipeline-to-manhattan-stirs-debate-in-2-states.html?hpw and here http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/26/business/energy-environment/flying-with-biofuel-gets-one-step-closer.html?src=rechp ; Mississippi pushes boundaries and seeks to redefine (transform) one possible consequence of sexual intercourse http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/26/us/politics/personhood-amendments-would-ban-nearly-all-abortions.html?src=me&ref=us , as a CDC advisory panel recommends a controversial prescription to prevent a sexually-transmitted disease http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/26/health/policy/26vaccine.html?src=recg
Finally, keeping in line with the second trine between Jupiter and Pluto (see yesterday’s forecast) which suggests transforming a perspective on resources, news has just hit the wires that European banks have agreed to take a loss on Greek debt to help resolve the impending European fiscal crisis. Here in the US, the numbers are out on how the top 1% in this country have fared in recent years, perhaps transforming perspectives as well http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/26/us/politics/top-earners-doubled-share-of-nations-income-cbo-says.html?src=me&ref=us We’ll see where we’re at with all this in March…
Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 10/26/2011: New Moon in Scorpio
/in The ForecastA potent day, with a New Moon exact at 3:56PM ET, at 4 degrees of Scorpio, a deeply emotional sign that needs to seek knowledge for the sake of power and control. Resilient, resourceful, relentless, ruthless — often operating with a passionate agenda kept tightly under wraps, “Scorpios build all the way up to Heaven and all the way down to Hell” (wrote astrologer Linda Goodman), and that’s what makes them so interesting.
The Sabian Symbol http://www.sabian.org/sabian_symbols.php for 4 Scorpio is “a youth holding a lighted candle in a devotional ritual”. If you recall the symbol of last month’s New Moon (“a group gathered around a campfire in communion”), then you’re already amazed by how the themes of last month appear to be continued for this month as well, but this time with a clearer focus on spirit — in an environment more crafted and contained by a society (a candle) than primal and open (a campfire). How does this intensity of spiritual connection function meaningfully in a civilized society? Last month we may have focused on the spark. This month we focus on organizing the spark into something we can get our hands on…literally and figuratively. Oooohhhhh…that’s so deep…and it’s likely to be big …suggested by the New Moon’s challenge from expansive, enthusiastic, philosophical Jupiter. Would it surprise you that my favorite Sabian Symbol guru, Blain Bovee, writes that one suggested manifestation of 4 Scorpio is “being incensed over poverty”? I could not make this up if I tried…
The chart for the New Moon contains a number of patterns ripe with the potential for release, as we’ll see in the headlines and in your own personal world. I mentioned a few of them earlier this week. Mercury (mind, communication) is hooked up with Venus (social expression, money, beauty, women) in sexy Scorpio…and both planets are challenged by Mars (action, aggression) in drama queen Leo. What does that suggest? First, an idealistic drive for depth and substance in communication suggests an opportunity to investigate and confront issues you might usually prefer to overlook. (Libra might overlook; Scorpio dives right in). This drive may be expressed quite proactively (some may find it overbearing) and may result in dramatic confrontations and/or juicy, messy — but oh-so-creative co-minglings. Take note of romantic prospects encountered at this time — and deal with what comes up in your existing relationships. Face the reality of your investigations fearlessly and be willing to release whatever isn’t working.
Another strong pattern during this cycle is the second trine between ruthless, transformational Pluto in Capricorn (the establishment) and expansive, optimistic Jupiter in Taurus (material security/bliss). The first trine happened on July 7th; the third and final trine happens in March of 2012; and what we can expect to pull focus is a change — or strong efforts to chage — a personal or collective perspective/philosophy regarding material resources. Back in July 7th, the U.S. Congress was just starting to deal — or not deal — with the U.S. debt “crisis”. So that theme will likely return with a vengeance. Humming in the background of all of this is the status quo-disrupting, resistance-is-futile challenge between rebel Uranus and potent Pluto, a pattern that’ll continue to be reflected in world events for the next few years.
Overall, the potential for a super-productive lunar cycle. Get your plans for world domination off the ground now, especially in light of Mercury going retrograde on November 24th, just in time for the holidays. Of course, when launching really big plans or anticipating potential crises in your own personal world, it’s helpful to know what’s going on in your own unique horoscope. Consult your local astrologer for details.
Last but not least, a look at headlines reflecting current planetary patterns. Here’s an example of the worst potential of a sexually-charged Venus in Scorpio challenged by Mars in dominating Leo is brought to lighthttp://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/25/world/europe/in-norway-gender-equality-does-not-extend-to-the-bedroom.html Headlines about rethinking resources are everywhere, including China’s approach to waterhttp://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/26/world/asia/china-takes-loss-to-get-ahead-in-desalination-industry.html?src=me&ref=world a major arrest in an insider trading casehttp://dealbook.nytimes.com/2011/10/26/gupta-surrenders-to-authorities-on-insider-trading/?hp and Apple takes the initiative in solar energyhttp://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/10/26/2721576/apple-plans-solar-farm-at-data.html
Would love to write more, but the New Moon approaches! Must post now! Meanwhile, keep those cards and letters coming…
