I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 2/3/2012: Information Overload?
/in The ForecastRead yesterday’s forecast for thoughts on Neptune’s ingress into Pisces at 1:52PM ET today.
Moon continues in chatterbox Gemini all day, not to enter Cancer until 12:06AM on Saturday. If anyone is feeling just a wee bit superior (think of The Church Lady), we may hear about it around 10:24AM ET, when aggressive Mars in prissy Virgo challenges the Moon. In your own little world, count to ten before snapping someone’s head off and don’t take it personally or return the volley if it’s your head being snapped off by someone else. On the plus side, if you’re channeling this energy with the best intentions and consciousness, you can make an impassioned case for something, complete with facts to back it up.
Self-indulgence or over-indulgence may present temptations around 3:03PM ET, as Moon is challenged by Venus in all-encompassing Pisces. Resist the urge to splurge and you’ll thank yourself when that credit card statement comes due.
More on the rest of the weekend later. It’s 12:54AM ET on Friday…and I am officially fried.
Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 2/2/2012: Neptune in Pisces
/in The ForecastAnother day light on planetary activity, though the buzz that began yesterday afternoon continues with Moon still in Gemini, needing to be the smartest one in the room. Who, what, when, where and how? Ideas can flow easily and with feeling as you wake up this morning, courtesy of a smooth connection between Moon and mental Mercury.
Today is your last chance to experience a full day of nebulous Neptune in Aquarius — and here, I mean the last chance in your lifetime. On Friday at 1:52PM ET, Neptune enters Pisces, the sign it rules. Neptune energy can be challenging for people who live in a material world, as it prefers the immaterial and ephemeral to the material and permanent. Neptune tends to dissolve whatever it touches, leaving you with the feeling that you’re standing in quicksand. Or in a fog. It doesn’t strike with a lightning bolt, like Uranus, or blow things to smithereens, purging and/or transforming, like Pluto. Its effects are much more subtle, but no less powerful.
Here are a few key words for Neptune: intangible forms (wireless communication including film, photography, telepathy, intuition, spirituality, rarefied art forms, including music), oil, dreams, drugs, blood, alcohol, poisons, viruses, water, oceans, seafood. A few key words for Pisces: surrender, empathy, compassion, collective consciousness, belief, martyr, saint. We can anticipate with confidence that headlines over the next 14 years will reflect these keywords with increasing levels of intensity.
It takes about 14 years for Neptune to travel through one sign of the zodiac; the last time Neptune entered Pisces was in 1847. Thanks to astrologer Steffan Vanel for bringing my attention to a post by astrologer Adrian Duncan noting some key developments during Neptune’s last transit through Pisces in the mid-19th Century. Note that the “social democratic demonstrations” (e.g., the “Year of Revolutions of 1848” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolutions_of_1848), coincided with Uranus and Pluto hooking up in the cardinal sign of Aries. Note also that Uranus and Pluto are four months away from a three-year long series of seven exact challenges to each other (and that we’ve been feeling the build-up for over a year) in Aries and Capricorn, respectively. Note also that when Uranus and Pluto do make contact, the effect is one of upheaval. But I digress. Here’s the bit on Neptune’s last transit through Pisces:
“This was the period when Charles Dickens wrote his novels of social realism, and social democratic demonstrations shook the capitals of Europe. This was also a time when painters like Renoir, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Cezanne and Monet made their impressionist paintings, expanding the world of fantasy and imagination. On the scientific front Darwin’s theory of evolution completely undermined Christian tradition. The first photographs were taken, ultimately leading to the coming world of the movies. Anesthetics were used for the first time in hospitals. Opium became a socially acceptable drug. The accepted reality of the day was undermined and new spiritual, emotional and political realities took form.”
This year, Neptune in Pisces will affect you most strongly if you have a birthday — or a planet, rising sign or midheaven in the early degrees of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius. On the plus side, there is potential for a spiritual awakening or transcendence; artistic and/or romantic stimulation and/or success. On the down side there is the potential for bewilderment or listlessness. Consult your local astrologer for further details on how Neptune is likely affecting your own personal horoscope. Meanwhile, you can watch Mitt Romney in action as one example of how Neptune can completely fog up efforts of personal projection as it challenges his Gemini Ascendant. Here’s what happened yesterday: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/02/opinion/collins-mitt-speaks-oh-no.html?hp http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/02/us/politics/poor-quote-by-romney-seized-on-by-his-critics.html?hp Bewildering, eh?
Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 2/1/2012
/in The ForecastSavor the last of this month’s Moon in steady Taurus until 2:15PM ET. The dominant lunar aspect today is a challenge from nebulous Neptune, suggesting spiritual and/or artistic concerns, along with the potential for confusion, escapism or whatever else rose-tints your world. An eleven minute void of course Moon ends at 2:15PM ET, with the Moon’s ingress into information junkie Gemini. Lots to talk about in the latter part of the day — whatever will the buzz be about? Information junkie Facebook filing papers for the hottest IPO of the century? How much is all that information worth, anyway — and how can we get a piece of it? http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/01/technology/riding-personal-data-facebook-is-going-public.html?_r=1&hp With Neptune prominent today, the sky’s the limit…at least in our imagination.
Read yesterday’s forecast for that bit about tonight’s potentially sexy challenge between loving Venus and rarin’ to go Mars…which, unless you’ve gone with it before, might best be postponed until after Mars turns direct on April 13th. The choice, however, is totally up to you.
Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 1/31/2012: More Mooooooon in Taurus
/in The ForecastYesterday we had six connections to the Moon in Taurus, which suggested a dynamic need to establish and/or preserve material comfort and security. Today we have only two connections to the Moon and the first one doesn’t hit until 9:08PM ET. If yesterday felt like you had to shift gears multiple times during the day, see if you notice that today could feel like you’re slowly cruising in third gear. If the evening finds you inclined to indulge in the sensual world, that would be in line with planetary patterns, too. Speaking of which…
…we’re building to an illuminating opposition between Venus (the feminine) and Mars (the masculine), exact Wednesday at 6:41PM ET. Already you may be feeling a bit of tension — possibly on the juicy/alluring side — in your interpersonal relationships, especially those between the sexes (including the same sexes, if you are so inclined — whatever/whomever might be the yin to your yang). Now you know what Wednesday might bring.
In other news — catching up on the headlines I missed over the weekend — it was no surprise to read of “hundreds of arrests” at Occupy Oakland “around 3PM” on Saturday. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/30/us/occupy-oakland-protest-leads-to-hundreds-of-arrests.html?ref=sarahmaslinnir Looking at the horoscope for that place and time, we immediately see aggressive Mars challenging the point of public status and ruthless Pluto challenging the point of personal projection. This is the same pattern that marked the start of the previous Sunday’s game between the 49ers and the Giants. While a no-holds-barred suggestion of aggression expressed may be perfect for a modern day gladiator tournament, it’s a definite red flag for a protest rally, no matter how peaceful the intention, especially with Moon in fiery Aries, rebel Uranus running wild and — hello — Mars retrograde. Remember, starting wars, throwing bottles and cans and other impulsive acts of aggression are not favored when the warrior planet appears to be moving backwards in the sky.
Contrast this horoscope with the chart for noon on Monday, January 30th in Washington, DC, the time those at Occupy DC were given to either pack up and leave or they would be arrested. No aggressive Mars or ruthless Pluto prominent in this chart; with a Taurus Moon and Taurus Ascendant suggesting a need to preserve the status quo (not to mention a stubborn streak also suggested by Taurus), chances were good that an aggressive confrontation would not be forced at that time (supported by other measurements in the chart). Occupy DC — in its present form, rats and all — appears to have bought more time. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/nationnow/2012/01/occupy-dc-rats-washington-mayor.html
I keep an eye on OWS and its offshoots because, as I’ve written in other forecasts, the rebellious spark and the issues of economic inequality they have raised showed up just as planetary patterns suggested something of this nature would. Where and how these seeds will eventually take root remains to be seen, but chances are strong that they will not just shrivel up and die. Let the record show that a friend of mine in town from Tokyo this weekend had this item at the top of her New York “Must-See” list: Visit Occupy Wall Street. Food for thought.
Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 1/30/2012: Getting Grounded
/in The ForecastAfter an intense three days at the astro-logical version of Hogwarts, I am exhilarated and exhausted. Moon in high-gear Aries had much to do with it, and now, on Monday, I welcome the shift suggested by Moon entering Taurus at 1:28AM ET. Taurus suggests a need for calm, stability and preserving the status quo…even as spirits are likely lifted by Moon’s connection to jolly Jupiter at 6:29AM ET. Writers and communicators can still find the words they need, suggested by a charge to the Moon from mental Mercury at 11:14AMET…and whatever needs to be expressed can run deep, suggested by an easy connection to the Moon from resourceful Pluto at 6:25PM.
As the day moves into the night, the first challenge to your New Moon agenda may manifest — say around 11:10PM ET, when the First Quarter Moon is exact.
