I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.

Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 8/24/12 & the Weekend: Curiouser & Curiouser…
/in The ForecastWord on the street is that yesterday’s all-day Moon void was accompanied by some strange, weird vibe. Weird indeed, and we can look no further than today’s challenge: a First Quarter Moon and a T-square among the Virgo Sun opposing nebulous Neptune, with both planets squared by the high-flying, opinionated Moon in Sagittarius. All that sparkling pixie dust can be put to good use in creative and spiritual endeavors; in more practical concerns this is a good time to “measure twice; cut once” to make sure the pattern you’re following is for real. Neptune can also suggest fanatics and delusions.
The T-square described above was exact between 8:33AM and 9:54AM ET, and it was just after 9AM ET that a truly weird headline hit the wires in New York: Several People Shot, One Fatally, Outside Empire State Building. And to think, Mars (aggression) moved into Scorpio (potential for vengeance) only yesterday. It does seem like we have more than the usual share of violent words on the NYT home page today: Iran Speeding Up Nuclear Work; Missile Advance by China; Norway Killer Ruled Sane; US Drone Strike Kill More People; Town Built by Guns is Worried; Syria Clashes Intensify.
Count on Neptune’s weirdly rose-colored fog to carry you through the weekend, as the next connection it makes is to that very potent Mars at 2:55AM ET on Sunday. This is a charismatic connection and a favorite of glamorous Hollywood starlets and seductive snake oil salesmen. Paul Ryan has a Mars-Neptune trine in his horoscope that channels that charm right on his Ascendant. How appealing is that? So appealing, that a woman from “Democratic royalty from Oklahoma” fell in love and married him. (Bill Clinton also has Mars and Neptune on his Ascendant).
On Sunday, after a Moon void between 2:39AM and 9:58AMET, Moon enters “make-it-happen” Capricorn. This practical, earthy energy is good for accomplishing all sorts of weekend tasks. Be advised, however, that ruthless Pluto and disruptive Uranus engage the Moon at 10:05PM ET and 11:19PM ET, suggesting the potential for a bumpy emotional evening.
A couple of other headline notes: first, remember the eclipse on May 21 that was at 0 Gemini (and right on Mitt Romney’s Ascendant)? Listen up if you were born around the 21st of February, May, August or November, or if you have a planet or angle at 0 degrees of Pisces, Gemini, Virgo or Sagittarius. When an eclipse directly affects your horoscope, you can anticipate potential fallout from the eclipse when a transiting planet hits the degree of the eclipse. For example, on Wednesday the Sun was at zero degrees of Virgo, which is an exact square to zero degrees of Gemini. Got that? Did anything hit the newswires that might have put some pressure on Mitt Romney? Answer: yes — “a massive cache of confidential financial documents” was published on Gawker. Coincidence or conspiracy? Let’s keep an eye on what happens around October 7, when Mars will be at 0 Sagittarius and Neptune will be at 0 Pisces.
Astro-logical Forecast for 8/23/2012: Mars in Scorpio
/in The ForecastPatience may be required if you’re trying to gets something important off your desk today. The intense and methodical Scorpio Moon is void-of-course as of 5:34AM ET, after making a pleasant connection to Venus, which sets a cooperative tone. However, the Moon will not enter Sagittarius (the sign after Scorpio) until 6:50AM ET on Friday. That’s a loooong time for a natural break in the action, and it suggests a higher potential for a twist in your efforts to move forward in a straight line. People cancel appointments — or simply forget about them. A “crisis” happens that turns out to be nothing to worry about, but you had to deal with it anyway. Go with the flow…and if you can plan a watery escape, more power to you. Otherwise work on being present.
Mars changes signs today — also moving into Scorpio, where it will stay until October 7th. Mars — which refers to the energy we apply when we take action — is one of the rulers of Scorpio, and thus it is well-placed — for better or for worse. Mars in Scorpio can be passionate and magnetic, simmering with an aura of powerful knowingness — and wouldn’t you like to know what’s going on deep down inside. It can also be ruthless and vengeful.
When motivated by love, honor and integrity, Scorpio builds all the way to heaven. When motivated by fear, suspicion or power for its own sake, Scorpio destroys all the way to hell. As astrologer Linda Goodman once wrote, “That’s what makes Scorpio so…interesting.” Why is Scorpio so tough to handle? In a horoscope it naturally rules the 8th house of sex, death and money. These are tough subjects for most all of us, these matters of life and death.
Look for an uptick in intensity and passion over the next several weeks — in your own personal world and in world events. Debating, weighing issues, trying to keep the peace is so Mars in Libra. Now is the time for actions with power and emotional substance. That’s Mars in Scorpio.
Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 8/22/2012: Sun in Virgo
/in The ForecastSay goodbye to the Sun in Leo; say hello to the Sun in Virgo, as of 1:07PM ET. Virgo is an earth sign (as opposed to fire, water or air). It is also a mutable sign, as opposed to cardinal or fixed. What does that mean? Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn; they need to come up with the idea and take action. Fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius. These signs need to organize and give form to the concepts pitched by cardinal signs. Mutable signs — Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces — get to spread the word about the cool form the fixed signs made. Got it?
More about Virgo: it is ruled by Mercury, which also rules mindset. Virgo is symbolized by a virgin with a shaft of wheat. Its keywords are I ANALYZE. Virgo needs to apply its mental energy to discernment and discrimination, as it separates the wheat from the chaff. In health matters, Virgo rules the intestinal tract and assimilation. If you have planets in Virgo in your horoscope, and they are under a great deal of developmental tension, you may have some issues with your digestive system, especially how your system absorbs nutrition from food.
We should notice a shift in tone from the roaring Leo vibe to Virgo’s comparative quiet as the week progresses. How so? Why look, right on the home page of TMZ: pictures of Prince Harry naked in Vegas…I kid you not…talk about royal Leo revelry — and no, I am not going to provide a link, as the Moon is still in Libra and has some social graces. Read this piece about Jets quarterback Tim Tebow — and other virgins — living in New York instead. That’s Virgo — and on the home page of the New York Times, if you please.
Meanwhile, we have a few hours left to dream royally, encouraged by the deep Scorpio Moon making an easy connection to nebulous Neptune at 6:58AM ET. So definitely take note of your dreams….and the rest of your ideas for the day. Why? Because jolly Jupiter is getting along famously with mental Mercury, supporting writers and thinkers everywhere. That connection is exact at 6:57PM ET…and frankly, some of what you are thinking may be quite fantastic. Why? Because nebulous Neptune is moving to an exact opposition to the Sun at 8:33AM ET on Friday. How weird and dazzling can it get? Just watch the headlines..and note that Venus, which refers to women, has been running wild in the heavens.
Use the energy of today’s Scorpio Moon — which kicks in after 1:07PM ET — to be seen as someone of depth and substance.
Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 8/21/2012: Venus, Pluto & Uranus in the News
/in The ForecastMore of the same potential for gracious proactivity from yesterday, only without the potential bumps and jolts some may have experienced when the Libra Moon was challenged by ruthless Pluto and rebel Uranus at around lunchtime ET. For me, with my horoscope directly affected by the ongoing square between Pluto and Uranus, this was reflected in an especially intrusive “pat-down” by a airport TSA person determined to assert her authority after I declined (as I always do) to walk through the gamma ray gizmo scanning device that no one can conclusively prove is safe. Next came a leisurely swabbing of every item in my luggage, including several pages of Noel Tyl’s Astrology Looks At History — an explosive text indeed — as I marvelled at the intelligence of our tax dollars at work. The rest of the day was delightful — how about you? As I’ve written before, you are personally affected by the Uranus-Pluto square if you were born around the 29th of March, June, September and December…or you have angles or planets around 4-10 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn.
As for today, the only lunar connection is a serious hook-up with Saturn, suggesting the potential for ambition realized, on the one hand — or a sense of isolation, loss or a limitation imposed as the day progresses. Which will it be for you? The hook-up is exact at 8PM ET.
And now, the news. We’re seeing continued manifestations of last week’s challenging patterns involving Venus, Uranus and Pluto — suggesting rebellion, over-the-top emotion and prominence involving women. Exhibit A would be the Russian feminist punk band Pussy Riot being convicted on charges of “hooliganism” (that’s a carryover from last week). Exhibit B would be the famed Augusta National Golf Club moving into the 20th Century and inviting two women to join. Exhibit C would be Representative Todd Akin’s provocative assertion that women’s bodies can prevent unwanted pregnancy in cases of “legitimate rape.” Many in his own political party (Republican) are now calling for him to bow out of his current campaign for a seat in the US Senate. This story has led to reports noting that Akin and VP-candidate Paul Ryan co-sponsored a bill that sought to define different kinds of rape, with only one of them being called “forcible.” This could become a problem for the Romney-Ryan ticket, as Ryan’s mindset becomes a drain on Romney — a potential noted in last week’s forecast.
Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 8/20/2012: Arise, Go Forth, Etc.
/in The ForecastOK, long Moon void is over…or will be at 12:45AM ET, when Moon enters gracious, cerebral and proactive Libra. Time to move forward on your New Moon agenda, which I hope is as inspiring as a rainbow. I challenge you to find ways to shimmer and sparkle, as you surf the surge of energy you may be experiencing around lunchtime (on the East Coast), as ruthless Pluto and rebel Uranus connect with the gracious Moon at 1PM and 2:25PM ET, respectively. A flash of insight, an emotional outburst or other power play may cross the newswires and/or in your own personal world.
As the day progresses, harsher aspects give way to sweet indulgence, as loving Venus and expansive Jupiter connect with the Moon at 10:42PM and 11:32PM ET. Not bad at all.
Moon voids this week: Wednesday 3:13AM – 3:54AM ET (blink and you’ll miss it); Thursday 5:34AM ET – 6:50AM ET on Friday…that one you will notice….
