THE
I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.
Astro-logical Forecast for Tuesday 9/14/2010
/in The ForecastMoon in Sagittarius is a perfect time to express your opinion — so stand up and be counted — get out and vote if there’s an election happening in your state. There is no void-of-course Moon to blame things on if the results don’t go your way — underdogs and surprise upsets are not especially favored. My concern is that much of the campaign leading up to this election happened during Mercury retrograde, suggesting a certain amount of confusion about what each candidate actually stands for. Do your own research and cast your ballot.
This concludes the public service portion of today’s forecast.
Two shifts today: first, Mars moves into sexy Scorpio, adding further intensity to relationships — in the form of depth (on the plus side) and/or control (on the down side). Over the next several weeks, resist the urge to indulge in vengeance, especially over petty grievances. Endeavor to take the high road with honor and integrity (even among thieves). Scorpio can build all the way up to Heaven and all the way down to Hell. The choice is yours.
Second, Pluto turns direct at 2 degrees of Capricorn. If you are a Capricorn, Cancer, Aries or Libra born around December 24-26, March 23-25, June 24-26 or September 25-27, prepare yourself for third and final round of whatever forces have resulted in a major change in perspective over the past year, not unlike a phoenix rising from the ashes. If you weren’t born on those days and you’ve been experiencing some kind of intense transformation — or the pressure to have one — your Moon or other acutely sensitive point (such as your Rising Sign) might be affected. Consult your local astrologer for details.
Pluto’s transit through Capricorn has been exposing corruption and weakness in our infrastructure since 2008, especially in things hidden or underground. It occurs to me that the San Bruno gasline explosion happened as Pluto was grinding to a halt, about to change direction. Coincidence or conspiracy? Hmmm….
Astro-logical Forecast for Monday 9/13/2010
/in The ForecastEast Coasters can ease in to the start of the work week: we’ve got a brief Moon void from about 8-9 this morning. Patience on that morning commute, especially as we adjust to Mercury (mind, communication, travel, gizmos) just beginning to move forward again as of yesterday. Moon is in fiery, optimistic, opinionated Sagittarius today — perhaps inspiring you to apply the experience of whatever heights you may have scaled over the weekend and take it even further.
In other news, Tuesday the 14th is an election day in many states, including New York. If you don’t write it down, you’re likely to forget it — so I’ll remind you again tomorrow.
Astro-logical Forecast for Friday 9/10/2010 and the Weekend
/in The ForecastWilliam Shatner is getting a lot of press these days. A story about him appeared in the New York Times Magazine last week — and he’s starring in a provocative new sitcom, “$#!@ My Dad Says”. And on March 22, he’ll be 80 years old! With all this activity happening for him this year, do you think he might be personally affected by the empowering, life-altering Big T-Square Party (see forecast for 7/27/10 for details)? I had to investigate — and yes, in fact, he is. Shatner’s Sun is at 0 degrees of Aries; transiting Uranus (intensification, individuation) and expansive Jupiter are right on top of that Sun and making a supportive connection to his ruling planet, Mars. An astrologer counseling Mr. Shatner a year or so ago would have told him to be on the lookout for “breakout” roles that enabled him to shine in ways that might be seen as quirky or shocking….or just being himself. Break a leg, Mr. Shatner!
The Neptune-Mars connection (spirituality, saviors, fanatics), dominating the headlines this week continues to hold sway on Friday, apparently softening harsh edges enough to mollify even that aforementioned (see yesterday’s forecast) would-be book-burning Florida resident. How beautiful can life possibly be? Allow yourself to explore that question this evening — with a partner, even better.
You can continue to explore the depth of a beautiful connection over the weekend. Moon moves into Scorpio Saturday AM, demanding substance along with the sweetness of Friday’s dreamy seduction, augmented by a connection from loving Venus (in Scorpio) to transformational Pluto (ruler of Scorpio). It’s just all so potentially…juicy.
Mercury turns direct on Sunday at 7:09PM NY — be careful on the roads — be patient with yourself and others as we get used to our brains moving fully forward again, which will take until September 27th. If you’ve been thinking about scheduling an appointment to review your horoscope and chart your course for the next six – twelve months, this is an excellent time to do it.
Astro-logical Forecast for Thursday 9/9/2010
/in The ForecastToday’s Moon in cerebral, relationship-oriented Libra spends the morning being buffeted by the planets involved in the ongoing Big T-Square Party (see forecast for July 27 for details on this powerful planetary pattern that mirrors the current upheavals and/or transformation happening now on Earth). This potential burst of emotional intensity and/or proactivity has been happening about once a week — every time the Moon moves into the signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn — for a few months now. The last day this happened was Friday — and I do recall seeing several posts on facebook that day of people reporting an uptick in intensity.
An easy connection between Mars (action) and Neptune (escape) will likely soften the above mix for most of us, inspiring daydreams and soulful acts of charity — and empowering those who rely on charisma to make their pitch. We may see this reflected in the headlines, along with a possible flipside of Mars-Neptune connections: fanaticism, as in that Florida resident who’s hosting a book-burning on Saturday of a certain text he apparently does not like.
Meanwhile, Jupiter moved back into Pisces around 1AM NY, where it will stay for the rest of the year. This will likely take the edge of big, pioneering plans that cropped up over the summer — but don’t worry, they’ll be back with a vengeance early next year. Until then, we’ll be given plenty of opportunities to empathize, empathize, empathize.
Special note to those born March 18th – 19th: September 18th could be your lucky day, thanks to Uranus and Jupiter hooking up with your Pisces Sun. Let me know what happens a few days before and after.
Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 9/8/2010
/in The ForecastRecall that last month’s New Moon was in Leo and the suggestion was to focus on authentic creative self-expression. This month’s New Moon happens today at 6:30AM NY/3:30 AM LA at 15 degrees of Virgo. Keywords for Virgo include: perfection, discernment, work, service, analysis. Whom or what does your creative self-expression serve? How does it work?
Virgo also rules the digestive tract, where it keeps busy instinctively separating the wheat from the chaff. It keeps elements that provide nourishment and eliminates those which do not. Some digestive systems work more efficiently than others, depending on what they are given to process. What is your process? Is it efficient?
Virgo, an Earth sign, is ruled by airy, mental Mercury…but I suspect that’s only because the true ruler of Virgo has yet to make an appearance. What does a planet that’s airy and mental have to do with “gut instinct”, which sounds so earthy and primal? That was my question when reading about the Sabian Symbol for this Virgo New Moon: “In the zoo, children are brought face to face with an orangutan”. Astrologer Blain Bovee helpfully tells us in his book on Sabian Symbols that “orangutan” means “wild man”, and that one of the origins of the word “orange” is “aur”, which means “gold”. Hmmm….this “wild man” that likely runs on “gut instinct” just might be a treasure…
This month, when faced with goals and other challenges, consider going with your gut. Let it lead to you to work and service that nourishes you….and gives you hints about what needs to be eliminated that’s interfering with your process. Your gut already knows what to do…imagine that!
In other news, today loving Venus moves into Scorpio. Let’s manifest depth and passion in our relationships, instead of the shrewish alternative, “If I be waspish, best beware my sting”. : )
