Sunday 8/8/2021: New Moon in Leo; Sneak Peek at the Week

Happy New Moon in Leo, exact at 9:49 AM ET on this gorgeous summer day in Maine, where my forecasting efforts are being supervised by a large blue jay perched on the railing. Life is good.

A New Moon offers us an opportunity to re-set intentions and goals for the next lunar cycle.  Make a list; light a candle; pause for station identification. Expressing your authentic self just for the fun of it is readily facilitated by Moon in Leo.

Around August 15th, on the First Quarter Moon, we may experience a challenge to the New Moon agenda, with appropriate adjustments made. At the time of the Full Moon on the 22nd, we can expect illumination on the success or failure of our goals for the cycle. If we succeeded, we can consciously release our success into our reality; if we failed, we let go of whatever did not work. After the Third Quarter Moon on the 30th, we can review our achievements, tie up loose ends and get ready to begin another New Moon on September 6th.

As previously stated, creative self-expression, a sense of play, and romantic love are Leo’s trademarks. So are royal entitlement and ego aggrandizement. Leo is born to rule; there’s no need to prove its case, and the sooner everyone in the room recognizes and honors it, the happier everyone will be. Why is that so hard for non-Leos to understand?

Here is the chart for today’s New Moon, set in Washington, D.C.:

  • In this New Moon chart, the need for the Leo Sun and Moon to shine seeks an especially innovative or rebellious expression, as both luminaries are still buzzed by their recent squares to maverick Uranus.
  • Venus (money, values, social expression) in Virgo seeks perfection in matters of work, health, and service; it is almost exactly opposite Neptune in Pisces. Note that Neptune is in the 6th house (work environments, enslavement, health conditions). Venus-Neptune contacts suggest a need for romantic idealism; art and beauty; peace and healing; dreamy escapes.
  • Mercury (how we need to think and communicate) in Leo will soon oppose Jupiter (expansion), which is sitting on the cusp of the 6th house. Big ideas, issued from on high, get their day in court.
  • The New Moon is in the 11th house — of reward and groups of like-minded souls.
  • The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon at 17 Leo echoes the theme of hanging with your special sovereign tribe: “a non-vested church choir.” Sabian Sage Blain Bovee’s interpretation of this image begins, “Imagine a space between conventional authority and unconventional innovation such as the rise of Rock & Roll and its judgmental detractors.” Read the rest here — and contemplate how certain groups are likely to push for self-determination, driven by a shared collective belief system. You can also marvel at how Bovee’s analysis — written in 2011 — resonates 10 years later with the current news cycle. Astrology is a language of timeless patterns.
  • In your own personal world, contemplate being your naturally sunny self and doing what you were born to do. Get in touch with your passions this month. Take some time to follow your bliss. Do what you love.  Leo rules the heart!
  • You are more personally affected by the need for creative self-expression of this New Moon if you have a planet or point around 17 degrees of Leo, Aquarius, Taurus, and Scorpio…or if you were born around the 8th of August, November, February, or May.

Here’s how the week goes:

  • MONDAY:  waking up with big ideas and enthusiasm is facilitated by the Leo Moon’s opposition to Jupiter, exact at 8:22 AM ET.  East Coasters may experience a twist or flake in the ensuing three-and-a-half-hour Moon void. Focus returns once the Moon enters Virgo at 10:55 AM ET. Time to sort out the details and make things right, as best as once is able when wearing the rose-colored glasses of the Venus-Neptune opposition, exact at 8:19 PM ET. The need for perfection in matters of women, art, money, labor, and health has added depth and power (watch for these themes in the headlines), as Venus will next trine Pluto (the Powers That Be), exact on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Moon in Virgo’s quest for order is energized by a hook-up with Mars (action!), exact at 11:42 PM ET. Put that organizing drive to constructive use this evening.
  • TUESDAY: The Virgo Moon trines Uranus at 1:18 PM ET, potentially bringing competing factions together for a change. That Mercury-Jupiter opposition is exact at 9:19 PM ET; with Mercury in regal Leo, will we have a headline about some entitled person stubbornly thinking they know better what’s best for humanity (Jupiter is in Aquarius)? Regardless, watch for big news in publishing and travel. If you have a planet around 28 Aquarius, Taurus, Scorpio, or Leo, you’re more personally affected by the potential for big news.
  • WEDNESDAY: Note your dreams, as the Virgo Moon opposes Neptune and meets up with Venus at 3:15 AM and 6:15 AM ET, followed by a trine to Pluto at 7:21 AM ET. That could be deep, in a helpful, healing way. Stick to routine concerns and take time to wander with whatever inspires you; the Moon will be void for almost 8 hours. Roll with the twists and flakes and remember that Moon void “crises” usually dissipate once the void has ended. Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill and avoid making impulse or significant purchases.
  • WEDNESDAY: Moon enters Libra at 4:07 PM ET, seeking fairness and balance in relationships. “On the other hand…” says Libra. The challenge is finding that balance. Meanwhile, Mercury enters its home sign — Virgo — at 5:56 PM ET.  This is a most excellent placement for Mercury, which rules contract negotiations and signings. Use it well between now and August 29th! Words of honor and reputation may capture our attention, as Mercury meets up with the fixed star Regulus. We are sure to hear something about the former guy’s honor and reputation, as Mercury will cross his Ascendant. At 6:45 PM ET, Venus trines Pluto, facilitating news about women, money, values — with depth, substance, and power.
  • THURSDAY: Moon trines Saturn at 8:32 AM ET, offering a stable platform for your diplomatic endeavors. Use it to your advantage for the rest of the day, driven by the Libra Moon’s quest for balance. Maybe Congress will get something done.
  • FRIDAY: harmony in the early morning, as the Leo Sun sextiles the Libra Moon at 4:13 AM ET. A catharsis or power play arrives around 11:20 AM ET, as Moon makes its weekly clash with Pluto. By 4:38 PM ET, conflicts may be ironed out with the good cheer suggested by a trine between the Moon and Jupiter. Chill with a cocktail during the Moon void, which lasts until 8:01 PM ET.  For the next three days, the Moon in Scorpio drives the agenda with its need for depth, substance, and control, consolidating knowledge in order to achieve its goal.
  • SATURDAY: Scorpio Moon’s need for control is advanced or thwarted by a square to Saturn at 11:53 AM ET. Crusading action may follow, as Moon then sextiles Mars at 1:07 PM ET. An upset of authoritarian controls shocks the system around 9:18 PM ET, as the Scorpio Moon opposes Uranus in Taurus.
  • SUNDAY: a dreamy start, as Moon trines Neptune at 10:33 AM ET. At 11:19 AM ET, the Scorpio Moon squares the Leo Sun, pitting burning passions against sovereign rule. In this First Quarter Moon contest, sovereignty wins hands down, but those passions may cause quite a ruckus in the news.

There’s more about Sunday — along with a recap of the week’s headlines, but the Maine coast is calling. Meanwhile, my iPhone informs me that it is experiencing a heat emergency after apparently frying in the New Moon sun. It’ll cool down and be all good — but the heat alert reminds me to remind you to stay cool during this particular lunar cycle. The heat is on — you can see it in the headlines — but armed with this Whether Forecast, you can choose whether to simmer, sizzle, or burn.

Thank you for reading this forecast. I’m back in New York later this week. I’d be delighted to consult with you about your fabulous horoscope. Here’s how to contact me.
