Saturday & Sunday 9/12-13/2020: Catching Up on the News; 9/11 Memorial
Alll—righty then!
Let’s start with a recap of the forecast for the weekend…
- FRIDAY: Moon entered Cancer, focused on emotional and family/homeland security. That focus is the likely theme of the anticipated vision or illusion, reflecting the Sun’s annual opposition with Neptune, exact at 4:26 PM ET. Headlines are likely to include: music, oil, drugs, healing, victims, film, oceans, the surreal and scandal — especially in connection with leaders of business and state.
- SATURDAY: The Cancer Moon‘s focus on the home front continues — with exuberance during the day, as Moon is supported by the Sun, Jupiter and Neptune. Meanwhile, Jupiter, planet of reward, expansion and indulgence, turns direct at 8:42 PM ET at 17 Capricorn. If you have a planet around 17 degrees of Capricorn Cancer, Aries or Libra you are especially affected. Why? Because Jupiter has been sitting on that degree for the past few weeks, and will continue to sit on it for the rest of the month. What’s expanding in your life these days?
- Jupiter keywords include: collective belief systems, such as higher education, court opinions, religion and the media; and also sports, travel, horses, the liver and the lungs. Watch for a focus on these matters in the news.
- SUNDAY: Moon opposes Saturn at 3:37 AM ET and squares Mars at 8:05 AM ET. That’s your excuse for waking up on the wrong side of the bed. Chill during the ensuing Moon void. Moon enters Leo at 11:32 AM ET, looking for a party.
No sleeping in on MONDAY. The Leo Moon will not be void, and it squares Uranus at 5:33 AM ET, suggesting an upset to the status quo getting East Coasters out of bed. Sun will trine Pluto at 7:05 PM ET and then trine Saturn on THURSDAY, facilitating earthy power and structures in all matters of will. Could be a CEO or head of state — but it also applies in your own personal world, especially if you have planets between 18 and 26 degrees of Aries, Libra, Cancer and Capricorn. More upsets in matters of money, social expression, aesthetics and women are suggested by the disruptive buzz of an exact square between Venus and Uranus, exact on TUESDAY.
And now, the news.
Mars turning retrograde in Aries on Wednesday suggested news of sudden breaks in the action, aggression, heat, fire, red and all things male. The headlines delivered:
- “Two-time Olympic champion Caster Semenya lost her long legal battle Tuesday against track and field’s rules that limit female runners’ naturally high testosterone levels,” reports AP. Here’s the summary of Semenya’s horoscope written for Mountain Astrologer last year. Semenya is now having her first Saturn Return, currently squared by Mars. Frustration and blocks would be no surprise.
- “Northrop awarded $13bn contract to develop new ICBM“
- Of course Bob Woodward‘s book – entitled RAGE — would dominate the news on the day Mars turned retrograde in Aries! “Trump says he knew coronavirus was ‘deadly’ and worse than the flu while intentionally misleading Americans,” and yes, it’s all on tape.
- In photos: wildfires (continue to) ravage the West Coast, turning the sky a Martian-colored red/orange. A huge majority of cherished Avid Readers live out there; praying that all of you are safe and sound.
- “HuffPo off the hook in for use of photo that obscured Jon Hamm’s penis”
- I told you that starting the NFL season on a Mars retrograde was not a good idea. “Fans booed as Chiefs & Texans held ‘moment of unity’ before the game”
- Gender reveal parties spark wildfires…I kid you not
- Used cars are the new hot commodity in the U.S.
- Novak Djokovic was disqualified from U.S. Open after inadvertently hitting a lineswoman with a tennis ball hit in frustration. Use this as a good example of What Not To Do During Mars Retrograde. PAUSE — before you impulsively lash out!! And yes, Mars was active in Djokovic’s horoscope that day.
- This one belongs to the frustrating interaction of Mars and Saturn — in effect all month. Mars rules the jaw; Saturn rules teeth — and dentists are seeing more and more cracked teeth caused by jaw tension/teeth grinding — here’s what to do about it.
Meanwhile…
- Assertion: a whistleblower says that the Department of Homeland Security pushed NBC News to retract an accurate story about the number of “terrorists” (Mars!) crossing the border from Mexico in the U.S. Accurate: 6. DHS version (inaccurate): 4000. Gosh, that fake number is grossly inflated. Throw in Jupiter and Neptune, too (see below).
- Assertion from a second whistleblower re: DHS downplaying threat of rising white supremacy in the US “Ignites smoldering Department of Homeland Security”
- Entire police command in Rochester, NY resigns in the wake of a cover-up
- Top prosecutor in Russia probe case resigns — keep an eye on this story
Add in the symbolism of the Virgo Sun trining Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto AND opposing Neptune (last week into next), and we anticipate themes of refugees, charity, healing, fantasy, drugs, oil, oceans, dreams — also involving authority and the Powers That Be, thusly:
- “Greece seeks shelter for thousands after refugee camp fire”
- Fire-breathing dragon (Mars!) of clouds (Neptune!) is said to be the biggest (Jupiter) in history
- Champion wrestler (Mars) is executed in Iran, thus becoming a martyr (Neptune)
Take out Mars and just keep the optimistic Sun-Jupiter trine, opposing rose-colored Neptune:
- “Wisconsin farmer plants sunflowers as a respite …” for these interesting times.
In Blue State Land, we see the above patterns reflected in a fundraiser for the Wisconsin Democratic Party happening on Sunday night. It’s an original cast reunion for a reading of “The Princess Bride“ — film, glamour, charity and fantasy, big time — right? Moon will be in Leo — if not big time, it’s certainly show time.
Meanwhile, in Red State Land, we saw the same above patterns reflected at a jam-packed rally of P45 supporters in Michigan. Most were not wearing masks — and when asked why, one said that Covid was a hoax and another said he was protected by the Lord.
I promised you stories of drugs and leaders, and we really did get them:
- Certain Twitter users were convinced they saw Adderall fly out of P45’s nose at a press conference — and yes, there is video…
- …even as P45 later told Jeannine Pirro he’s convinced Joe Biden does drugs.
- Regardless, it was the perfect time to confirm that Jimmy Carter did say that Willie Nelson smoked pot with Carter’s son on the roof of the White House.
I promised you some noteworthy delays:
- A federal appeals court threw a wrench in a law approved by over 60 percent of Florida voters two years ago that restored voting rights to ex-felons who have served their time. The Republican-controlled state legislature immediately sought to undermine the will of the voters by passing a law that demanded all fines and court fees must be paid, too — and the appeals court just sided with the state legislature.
- Fun diversion: a few years ago Samantha Bee interviewed the two men — one Democrat, one Republican — who beat the odds and got the measure on the Florida ballot — which, as I said, passed. It all reminds me of the 2005 Citibank “Plutonomy Memos,” in which analysts concluded that the only one way to make sure that the super-rich remain the super-rich — is to make it impossible for people who aren’t super rich to vote.
- Covid vaccine trial delayed.
- USPS sending out inaccurate ballot info, a state official tells HuffPo
- P45 officials allegedly altered CDC data (delaying release of actual stats) “to protect P45”
- UK plan to change Brexit rules threatens US-UK trade deal
- In the matter of E. Jean Carroll‘s defamation suit against P45, the U.S. Department of Justice is now attempting to take over P45’s defense, paid for by U.S. taxpayer dollars.
Here is a chardonnay for Mars — retrograde in Aries:
In other news…
Yesterday was September 11th — a solemn day in the United States. This year feels like a never-ending 9/11 — only without the necessary time we need to actually stop and mourn what has been lost. Last year I re-posted what I’d written about finding silver linings in that tragic and cathartic experience — and here it is again, hopefully none the worse for wear:
Astro-logical Forecast for Wednesday 9/12/2012: Let It Shine
So yesterday was September 11th, and it was the 11th anniversary of an act of violence that stunned the world and resulted in the loss of thousands of lives. I couldn’t bring myself to acknowledge this in yesterday’s forecast because, frankly, I was living in New York on That Day. Then I noted someone on Facebook opining that on every September 11th since, all of America gets very patriotic, while New Yorkers just get somber and quiet. So I thought, “OK, I’ll post something.” After all, the Moon was in Cancer (needing to focus on homeland/emotional security; America is a Cancer nation, etc.), and it was slowly approaching a square to serious Saturn, suggesting a need for gravitas.
Here’s what I wrote:
What I remember about That Day was how quiet the city became in the aftermath. We gathered at night in public places, needing the support of community. We gave up our defensive edges. We slowed down. Drivers did not honk their horns. With whomever we met in the course of the day, we would take the time to look into each others’ eyes and ask, with heartfelt sincerity, “how are you”?
We approached each other with such loving kindness — back then — perhaps because we were all so conscious of our collective shock and grief. Everyone seemed to know someone who knew someone who had died…or was at Ground Zero and escaped, covered in ash…or was supposed to be there, but Fate intervened, and they missed their train or their appointment in the city was canceled or whatever. Point is, we all had a story to tell…and a connection to this experience that connected us to each other. We were able to see ourselves in each other.
Time passes…it heals wounds…and we forget. And often, we forget the connection. Separation — which is an illusion — creeps back in. It’s us against them. We are racing to get here, there, everywhere. We get impatient with each other and start honking our horns again…or worse. And yes, I do have a thing against people who honk their horns and I have a byline to prove it. Point is, we are still sharing the same human experience — in a Big Picture, yet profoundly simple way. Even though we may forget.
These thoughts led me to decide as my tribute to 9/11, I would pretend to be an exalted human being — and try to act accordingly — during the course of my errands in the city. That meant taking the time to consciously assess whomever I engaged and imagining myself in their position before promoting my own agenda.
The employee behind the counter at Pret A Manger, for example, was a 20-something man with a wonderfully grounded, friendly intelligence. I thought about where he was at in his life — working behind a counter for probably not much more than minimum wage — and I wondered what his dreams might be at this nascent stage of his career. And as we were discussing the comparative merits of the caffeinated beverages offered at this fine establishment, I found myself telling him what a great job he was doing, and that I was certain his attitude and attentive presence would take him very far in life. I put my two dollars on the counter to pay for my coffee (decided not to spring for the cappuccino), and darned if he didn’t say, “It’s on the house”.
What a delightful surprise. What a lovely connection.
I wrote all that on a day with Moon in Leo — which is where the Moon will be as of 11:32 AM ET on Sunday (9/13). So it’s appropriate to include the rest of my 9/11 musings:
And what, pray tell, does this have to do with anything astro-logical? How about this: with today’s Moon in playful, regal, sunny Leo, you are encouraged to let your light shine! Practice senseless acts of beauty and acts of random kindness. Show the world the results of your intention. Shine!
And look…here’s a song to inspire you…so many versions to choose from. Take your pick of Odetta, the Boss or the Templet Family Band. A tough choice, for sure. OMG, here’s Brenda Lee, too. The Odetta version opens with a passage written by Marianne Williamson that may give you chills….and…oh wow. Apparently Odetta sang this song (with the Harlem Boys Choir) on the first Letterman show after 9/11. I did not know that…until now.
