I am a reporter with a unique beat. I use my understanding of planetary cycles to provide advance notice and analysis on the Zeitgeist of the day. If you have ever wondered “why is this happening now,” my insights will transform your experience of the headlines, adding new meaning and understanding. Call it Astrology for News Junkies. If you’re curious to know why the Impossible Burger is trending…or why the outcome of the 2019 Israeli elections was likely to be a shocker …or why “Woodrow Wilson, Stud Muffin” was a New York Times headline in December 2013, you will find it here, in over a decade’s worth of historical research and reporting.
Note that I do use astrological jargon in The Forecast in my effort to show how the planetary patterns are reflected in mundane events. I explain what the jargon symbolizes, so that all who want to understand the connections between astrology and the news may do so. However, I do not use astrological jargon in personal consultations, just plain English.
Monday 7/1/2024: Sneak Peek at the Week; Neptune Rx; God Save the King
/in The ForecastFYI, I updated my observations on last Thursday’s CNN debate chart, explaining how the potential seen in the chart was reflected IRL (in real life). Astro-nerds and others who enjoy taking advantage of free astrology tutorials can find the updated post here….and if the knowledge gained inspires you to support Why Now News, that would make my day.
Highlights this week are:
It’s water, water, everywhere, and it goes like this:
Here is the chart for the scheduled start of the SCOTUS rulings:
Observations:
I’ll have to investigate that last prediction.
Back to the daily forecast:
THIS JUST IN…
SCOTUS has just declared in a 6-3 majority that the President of the United States is immune from criminal prosecution of anything they do within the capacity of an “official act.” So now Jack Smith’s case will be sent back to the judge, who must determine if the convicted felon and adjudicated rapist’s theft of classified documents was an official act or an unofficial act. It is doubtful that the case will go to trial before the November election. You can decide for yourself if dissenting Justice Sotomayer (joined by Kagan and Jackson) is “losing her head”…and also judge for yourself if her choice of words reflects the potential seen the chart for this morning’s event:
Astro-logically, we could see this as a reflection of the U.S. Pluto Return, which made the last of three passes a few weeks after the November 2022 election. Pluto refers to power and resources. In 1776, our Founding Fathers rejected the monarchy. In the aftermath of 2022, we see a non-elected minority of six people striving to revive it. Giving the President absolute immunity is absolute insanity. It contradicts the oath they swear to uphold and faithfully execute the Constitution.
But in these early years of this New Age of Air (heralded by the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in December 2020), it was anticipated that reasoning based on experience and solid ground could be replaced by reasoning conjured up from thin air, with laws and opinions based on hypothetical cases, not actual ones. Add in “let’s all make believe” seeds planted by the 2022 Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Pisces, and we can all make it up as we go along, living in our own personal reality bubble. So…sure…even though the JustUs’ said in their confirmation hearings (here are four of ’em on tape), that they understood and honored the legal principle of stare decisis, (which means to stand by things that have been decided), they have no problemo trashing 40, 50, or even 60 years of precedent if there’s something else they’d rather do. Like destroy civil rights legislation…or the right of a 13 year-old rape victim to terminate a pregnancy…or to limit the powers of federal agencies to regulate water, air quality, food and drug safety, etc…and let judges decide.
They did the last one on Friday, and (you can’t make this up) Neil Gorsuch’s opinion had to be revised because he referred to nitrous oxide (a.k.a. laughing gas) five times, when what he meant to refer to was nitrogen oxide (an air pollutant). But sure, it’s much better for the country to have judges deciding safety issues involving air pollutants, as opposed to actual scientists. In this new Air-a, anyone can be an expert! Here is a write-up of what we know of Gorsuch’s horoscope, first posted in 2017.
Back to the forecast for the week:
Beth Owl’s Daughter’s always-in-sync Tarot Card of the Week is The Moon. It reflects the predominance of planets in Water Signs Cancer and Pisces, especially Neptune and its oftern bewildering intangibles.
And now, just one other news item, reflecting dreamy Neptune:
…and this random item about a pair of 90-year-old twins. Their horoscopes are only a few minutes apart, according to the article.
If you’re wondering what Neptune is doing in your horoscope, here’s the 411 on personal consultations. Astrology is an amazing tool for understanding why you are the way you are, and why things happen when they do.
Thank you for supporting and sharing this forecast. Thank you for the likes and the comments! Now that we have a king in the White House, how do you think King Biden should apply his newly-bestowed superpower?

Wednesday 6/26/24: It’s Debatable
/in The ForecastThis post was updated after the debate on my Substack site, and again on June 29th
I’ve been asked by Avid Readers what astrology has to say about the planned joint TV appearance of President Biden and convicted felon/adjudicated rapist Donald Trump. Since you asked…
Astrology has plenty to say, and we can’t possibly cover all of it. But if you are an astro-nerd and appreciate an academic approach, we can look at the chart for the scheduled start of the show at 9 PM ET in Atlanta to get a sense of this moment in time:
Observations:
There are plenty of other patterns we could look at in this chart, e.g., midpoints and such…but what’s going on in the horoscopes of President Biden and CF/AR DJT?
First, President Biden will have just received an exact opposition to his Mars from transiting Mars, which my computer software interprets as
Biden has Mars in Scorpio — square Pluto and the Sun/Moon midpoint. These patterns are highly effective in any competition or crusade. Any buzz he’s accused of having is not from drugs (sorry, Captain Jackson (USN-ret), but the electrifying potential of transiting Uranus opposing his Sun-Venus conjunction. Now — and into 2025 — is the time for fiercely individualistic expression. President Biden may also reap the reward potential of transiting Jupiter conjunct his Saturn, which expands ambition and authority.
As for the Other Guy, please review the forecast written for this Friday for insights on his Mercury (how he needs to think and communicate) and Saturn (controls, karma, authority). Meanwhile, he’s also processing the high-voltage buzz of transiting Uranus — squaring his Mars and conjunct his Midheaven (professional status). Daring assertions — to the point of recklessness — would not be surprising…
…and speaking of daring assertions and recklessness, astrologer Jennifer Van Bergen says she’s located a birth date for Aileen Cannon, the judge who’s doing her best to make sure that the man who appointed her at the very end of his term doesn’t have to stand trial for taking truckloads of classified documents from the White House. Have you seen the latest photos?!?!?
Cannon has a square between Mars in Aquarius and Uranus in Scorpio. This suggests a stubborn application of assertive energy, and yes, potential recklessness. Like
her client, the man who appointed her, transiting Uranus will be activating her Mars (on July 3rd), and transiting Mars will follow suit the week after Bastille Day. Could be exciting. [UPDATE: on Monday, July 15th, the day after Bastille Day (and the day of the exact Mars-Uranus conjunction on Algol), Cannon dismissed Jack Smith’s case, saying that his appointment was unconstitutional. Obviously “exciting” was a bit of a snarky choice of words, when “reckless, rash, outrageous, chaotic, disruptive and rebellious” would have been better.]In other news…
With Venus (women, money, arts, worth) in Cancer, it is focused on matters of home and family security. Today Venus is at the Bendings (the North and South Node); i.e., between a rock and a hard place. Mercury (how we need to think and communicate) is also in Cancer and today it was trine Saturn (symbol of controls, authority, mortality). Early this morning, historian Heather Cox Richardson reported that...
And then there was this:
In other news…
UPDATE: on Julian Assange — written about many times here throughout the years. Around February I noted that transiting Uranus was hot in his horoscope. Translation: themes of freedom and a geographic relocation. So when it was reported back then that there was talk of a possible deal that could lead to a release, I could see the astro-logic. Oh…but there is still a bigger pattern at play here! In June of 2012, Assange sought asylum in Ecuadoran embassy in London. I wrote extensively about his horoscope in July, noting the potential for good fortune we could see around August 28, 2012. When Ecuador announced in August that it would make a decision on whether it would grant Assange’s request, I wrote:
Ecuador granted him asylum!! And guess what measurement was exact on June 17, 2024, “coinciding” with his release? A measurement involving the Midheaven and the Sun that only happens once in a lifetime, like the measurement Assange had in 2012! And now, Assange is home in Australia, “a free man.” Whatever you may think of Julian Assange, astrology is amazing.
Meanwhile…
Barbara Walters just had a lesser version of what went down in Julian Assange’s horoscope. Yesterday, with the Sun exactly on her Midheaven, Variety announced:
Barbara Walters to Be Subject of Doc Set at Hulu From ABC News Studios, Imagine Documentaries (EXCLUSIVE)
Ms. Walters passed away in 2022, but her horoscope is still functioning as designed. The horoscope lives FOREVER…
…and this concludes my 10-hour workday. Huzzah!

Monday 6/24/2024: Sneak Peek at the Week: People in the News, as Anticipated; Saturn & Neptune Blow Their Horns
/in The ForecastAllrighty then!
I started writing this forecast on Saturday, as follows:
Here’s to the end of a Neptune-dominated work week and its potentials ranging from the sublime to the surreal to the simply scandalous. It began with Mercury and Venus square Neptune, followed by the Sun on THURSDAY. After a square to Neptune at 6:58 PM ET on FRIDAY, the Sagittarius Moon shifted into Capricorn, waxing to fullness at 9:07 PM ET. Details about that lunation are in the last forecast, ICYMI.
This was the first of two consecutive Full Moons in Capricorn; we’ll have another one at the very end of Capricorn on July 21st. Thus over the next two months we may expect plenty of illumination and release in matters of hierarchies, patriarchies, government and corporate structures and figures of The Establishment. The June “Strawberry Moon” was exceptional, thanks to it being out-of-bounds to the max (in terms of its declination, explained in this linked article). Photos of this major lunar standstill, not seen since 2006, are here. If you missed it, there will be another one in 2025.
Inspired by Neptune-dominated patterns, I could not have picked a more perfect Full Moon in Capricorn Manhattan adventure than I am the utterance of my name: divining Mary Magdalene. Film, music, dance and meditations on the ideals, myths and lies about Mary Magdalene (one of the world’s most famous women), aptly reflected Neptune at the verrrry end of Pisces, at the prominent Aries Point. Kudos to the whole creative team, especially playwright/director Sylvia Milo. If you see the show on a hot summer night, Morganstern’s ice cream shop is within easy walking distance. Oh, sweet Neptune escape!
OK — on with the show for THIS week:
It goes like this:
Here is Beth Owl’s Daughter’s always-in-sync Tarot Card of the Week.
And now, the news.
First, a few headlines from earlier this month, reflecting the severe controls suggested by Saturn (control) as it squared Venus (women, values), Mercury (mindset), and the Sun (leaders):
Last week it was Neptune following in Saturn’s footsteps:
Meanwhile, there were a number of people with planets at the Aries Point who were in the news, just as we anticipated they would. Astrology. Is. Amazing!
In no particular order:
Further thoughts on Neptune:
It’s exact position now is 29 degrees, 54 minutes of Pisces — just six minutes of arc away from officially being in ARIES. When Neptune turns retrograde at 6:40 AM ET on July 2, it will be at 29 degrees, 56 minutes of Pisces…sooooo close to 0 degrees of Aries. What does this mean? To me, this sooooooo close-to-Aries placement of Neptune is being reflected in stories with both Pisces and Aries keywords. The bump stock ruling seems half Neptune in Pisces (surreal), half Neptune in Aries (twisted analysis of what is and what is not a machine gun).
Meanwhile, the cover story of yesterday’s NYT Sunday Magazine is about the “suicide crisis among U.S. soldiers in peacetime.” Suicide — a wipe-out of the self — is a Pisces keyword. Soldier is an Aries keyword. In this particular story we also see Saturn’s journey through Pisces manifesting as anticipated, with increased awareness of the need to seriously address mental health issues. Other predictions for Saturn in Pisces are here.
Neptune is now about where it was in the summer of 1860, and again in April and November of 1861. Lincoln was elected in November 1860, and before he took office in March of 1861, states in the South began seceding. The shots fired in April at Fort Sumter in South Carolina marked the official beginning of the Civil War.
In 1860, the U.S. was also experiencing its first Uranus Return, so we’d expect themes of freedom and rebellion. We’re due for another Uranus Return starting in 2027, but this year we’ll have the first of a series of squares to the U.S. Moon at 27 Aquarius. This suggests similar themes of freedom and rebellion, with possible conflict arising from the U.S. Aquarius Moon’s intense need for unique social significance within the group. The U.S. motto, E pluribus unum (out of many, one) is apropos.
Here’s a timeline of events in U.S. history, starting in 1860.
Here is John Oliver on Last Week Tonight, explaining what’s in Project 2025, the 920-page operating manual developed by the Heritage Foundation. It’s a very different game plan than the one President Biden is following. Are we seeing a repeat of opposing values in the extreme, similar to the conflict between slaveholder states and free states in the 1860s? What do you think?

Monday 6/17/2024: Sneak Peek at the Week; Neptune, Summer Solstice & More
/in The ForecastAlllrighty then!
Imagine a big ocean liner making a turn in heavy fog. That’s an apt metaphor for this week’s planetary patterns. Neptune is in challenging aspect with Venus, Mercury, and the Sun through Thursday. Neptune refers to ideals, drugs, dreams and fog. Venus refers to money, values, and social expression. Mercury refers to how we need to think. Sun refers to leaders and ego expression. The “turning point” part of the metaphor refers to Thursday’s solstice, as the Sun leaves Gemini for Cancer, and the wheel turns from one season to another.
Highlights this week:
It goes like this:
Here is the chart for the Summer Solstice, set in Washington, D.C.
Observations:
Back to the forecast:
Observations:
Back to the forecast:
I have it on good authority that Beth Owl’s Daughter’s always-in-sync Tarot Card of the Week is The Fool. Note that the Fool is represented by ZERO, which I find an apt reflection of Sun, Mercury, and Venus at ZERO degrees of Cancer. While the Fool moves faster than an ocean liner turning around, perhaps, the Fool’s idealism could well be a Neptune fog — and so, with an easy flow between Mercury and Mars, over the cliff the Fool goes!
Beth makes a persuasive case for why there is no downside to the Fool’s strategy.
And now, the news.
After writing these words several hours ago:
…WaPo published this story:
Elsewhere…
As it turns out, Barack Obama’s horoscope is functioning as designed — and anticipated. With transiting Mercury and Venus activating his natal Venus over the weekend, and exact today, you can find plenty of articles quoting him on what media he consumes and whether his daughters will follow in their father’s political career footsteps. Google him and you’ll see.
And then there is this related article:
“’Rupert Murdoch’s Sad Little Super PAC’: White House Pushes Back Again At New York Post, This Time Over Biden-Obama L.A. Fundraiser Video”
Since Jupiter’s ingress into Gemini last month, fake news seems more mainstream than ever, as reporter/lawyer Judd Legum of Popular Information explains here in must-read detail. Seriously — that linked article is important. You might not consume much mainstream news, but plenty of people you know do. Legum’s investigation exposes outright lies.
Perhaps the flood of disinformation reflects Jupiter’s first stop in Gemini; i.e., its trine to Pluto in Aquarius last month. News behaving badly (one potential of Jupiter in Gemini) received an empowering (Pluto) networking (Aquarius) tool? And then of course, we have Neptune at the verrrrry end of Pisces — at the Aries Point — and demanding attention.
Meanwhile…
We don’t have a birth time for Jeff Bezos, but we have enough info to know that transiting Uranus recently squared his Venus-Saturn conjunction in Aquarius. Translation: we anticipate a shake-up and a need for something or someone new, exciting — and possibly risky. With respect to his ownership of the Washington Post (motto: “Democracy Dies in Darkness”), his need for excitement appears to be reflected by the hiring of a new ad agency to help it “broaden its image” and expand its number of subscribers from 3 million to 100 million. That’s a lofty goal indeed, and apt for Jupiter (which refers to publishing) in Gemini (which thrives as a jack-of-all-trades). Good luck with that, Mr. Bezos.
Bezos’ hiring of the controversial Will Lewis as WaPo’s publisher (as of January) continues to make waves. Lewis is adding “editor” to his job description, and reporters at other publications are digging up dirt:
Here’s a fun item:
‘Inside Out 2’ calms box office anxiety with blockbuster opening. How perfect for a weekend with Neptune (film) squaring Mercury-Venus (values, money, mindset), with the boffo box office announced as Mercury-Venus enter Cancer (emotions). If you didn’t see the original Inside Out, you missed a gem. I can’t wait to see this sequel.
Finally, from across the pond…

Tuesday 6/11/2024: Late Sneak Peek at the Week; Saturn, Pluto & Mars — Oh, My!
/in The ForecastAllllrighty then!
Professor Saturn hasn’t finished its master class on strategy, structure, streamlining, and serious reality checks. Over the weekend, Saturn squared Sun-Venus in Gemini. Planets in Gemini reflect a need for information, cleverness, and entertainment. FYI, Gemini invented Trivial Pursuit (remember that game?). If you spent time over the weekend putting controls on the flow of information to your inbox, you were intuitively responding to Saturn’s streamlining prompt. Much as I appreciate Staples, for example, I don’t need to know they’re having a sale on copy paper. Nor do I need to be distracted by Amazon’s request that I review my new kitchen faucet, much as I enjoy providing helpful information.
This week, Saturn squares Mercury, suggesting more hard facts, harsh truth and a sobering mindset. By the end of the week, Saturn turns the lectern over to Professor Neptune, and this exercise may fog up, dissolve, or idealize our recent reality check.
The highlights for the week:
It goes like this:
And now, the news.
One story reflecting the harsh reality of Sun-Venus-Mercury square Saturn is noted in Beth Owl’s Daughter’s always-in-sync Tarot Card of the Week. Her interpretation of this week’s card offers a coping strategy.

Finally…
…I glanced at transits in President Biden’s horoscope at 3:32 PM ET, the time the jury in Hunter’s case began deliberating. I was struck by transiting Jupiter opposing Biden’s Ascendant, with the transiting Midheaven conjunct Biden’s Jupiter. Not only that, but transiting Moon in Leo squared his Mars…and transiting Mars was conjunct his Moon; Pluto squares it. Themes of expansion, provocation, and assertion are suggested…and check out Heather Cox Richardson’s latest letter — posted less than an hour ago — reporting on what the Biden-Harris campaign released that day.
Astrology is amazing.
One of the benefits of being on Substack is getting to discover cool new must-read writers. Civil Discourse is written by Joyce Vance, a former federal prosecutor. On Sunday she posts The Week Ahead, outlining expectations in major court cases. Armchair attorneys and those who seriously considered going to law school (raises hand) will dig it. Take a look at the SCOTUS opinions we’re waiting on, and note how the subject matter for these cases reflects planetary patterns.
“D-Day and the Importance of Voting” (posted on June 7) starts with a touching personal encounter and ends with an inspiring list of simple things you can do to stop Russell Vought and his Project 2025 “madmen” collaborators from executing their plan “…to rip and shred the federal government apart, and if you don’t like it, you can lump it.” And because you read Beth Owl’s Daughter’s Tarot card this week and clicked on the links, you now know who Russell Vought is, if you didn’t before.
Here’s the 411 on personal consultations.
